And have you heard the voice on Council yet? So far, we have one Council for (Ivan), and one against (SD69). Niel and I have not yet chimed in. Part of that is because I'm a bit away from home, doing my real job right now. That I had to break from that for this mess is frankly shameful.

For the topic at hand: I'm of a dual mind. I feel, like some, if there was valid interest then the nomination would have occurred in the given time frame, which was announced a month ahead of time. At the same time, I would much prefer an election to a default body. I will thus abstain from the decision.

As Chair, it's within my power to extend the nomination period for one or both of these. I will not make that call on my own though. I will do so only at the will of Council, who should be listening to all members of the community.

As for following the rules, the last election cycle followed the rules to the letter. It was announced, and the period extended (as mandated by the rules) when not enough candidates were standing. While the election started a day or so later than it should have because of technical issues, it lasted the proper amount of time, and was within the letter of the law, and as far as I saw, within the spirit of it as well.

Right now, I'm pretty much fed up with the lot of you. It's as if you all want the servers to just shutoff come December 31st. If that's what you want, you're well on your way to accomplishing it. (And that's to all of you, not just Doc or Estel.)

Do you mean this one, where you claim to have invented the idea (you didn't) while still in Council?

(My idea)

Or this one, where you were strictly against the idea, because you were no longer in Council.

So you're for a power grab when you stand to benefit, and against it when you're not? And then for it again when it makes your argument look good? I call hypocrite, if not worse.

The best part? Shortly after in this SAME post, you said this:

And now, that we're holding elections for the positions, where you were advocating for just assigning Council to the Board and disbanding Council all together while you were in it, you said:

You've implied I and other Council are power-grabbers, on more than one occasion now. Really? Fulfilling your own prophecy? To what end? Do you hope now to "swoop in" and "save" the community?

I hope you feel happy... To "prove yourself right", you just had to keep stirring the pot, lying and saying whatever it took to sling mud, even where it doesn't exist. That may cost the community enough time that it won't be possible now to prevent the lights going out in December.

Community: You want to know who to blame if the servers go away on December 31st? Look to Poland.

Re: [Council] Last Call for Council Nominations And Bylaw Review

FWIW: I am away on important business right now. If need be, Council can contact me to make whatever announcements are needed once decisions have been made.

As it stands right now, we have 3 hours to election, and I have just over 3 before my next flight. I would much prefer at the very least for the Board election to go forward, even if the Council election must be delayed, so we don't lose any more time on ******** and trolls. If we delay Board elections, we will likely NOT have time to transition everything before the plug gets pulled. It's a push to do it as it stands, even with the work and money we already put into it already.

Make up your minds. Do you want Maemo to die? Or do you want to hold elections. Simple yes or no answer. Tell me when you've made up your minds.

Edit: I'm tired... For some reason I've been thinking it's Friday all day. We have a day to sort this. I'm still pissed, and away now.

Please guys, before responding again, any and all of you, read the last few pages of this thread and reflect on in.

The whole point of all this, your investment in time and money, is to keep the lights on. Not to prove you have been right

Of course there will be disagreements and other obstacles, and I'm all for a good debate on things that matter. On the other hand, by reading this thread I understand that there is no actual disagreement. We all want the servers to continue to feed packages after the 31/12 in one way or another and we 've got just as many people as the seats are.

So there is only one possible outcome. That the candidates fill those seats and do what they originally nominated themselves to do

All the name-calling and arguing is done over nothing. So if you can't agree on how is the best way to do the only possible outcome let the problem solve itself. Continue by the book, declare the two bodies as per the nominations of the 28th of september and assign responsibilities.

When the bodies are in place and running, any member has a right to step down, taking the full responsibility of his actions. Then the BoD can appoint (as stated in the bylaws) responsibilities to a non-council/BoD member or form a commitee with people willing to help.

Really I urge you to re-read the last couple of pages and then reply.

This should really not be about personal ego boost.
And it feels like "engineers kindergarden".

I will not start to argue against/with anybody here,
but I support qwazix's request to reread and rethink...

And please do not start to argue/fight, but try to find a common sense without pointing on each other.
I for myself would like to see this site/repo/'community' alive!

Well, I must admit, that I was just to write answer pointing out some, hypocrisy, sophism, and being "glued to a chair" (sic!)...

...when I ran into last qwazix's post. Right - I also believe, that we're all concerned about Foundation's future.

So, right - I think we can all rely on old maxim, "By results, You will get to know them". I hope, that results will be less miserable than actual election process - it was meant to be handled with (both) respect for statute *and* good, productive atmosphere.

No matter, if we like it or not, person responsible for maintaining election, turned out to be worst person in worst place - failed in a way, that was *never* seen before, during any Maemo election.

Here you are: down to 5 (afaik), no vote either.

Incorrect, read the bylaws.
