I don't think there is a "single" most helpful person . There are multiple person but not many help for both N900 and N9 .

kinda hard to say since a lot of people have left, but MohammadAG takes it for all the stuff he's been doing, but then there's pali and freemangdon that have done a lot of work on the N900 kernel. yeah i spelt names wrong ah well

I've been here for a couple of years now and have seen so many very helpful users come and go, it would be too hard to choose just one.

With that said if you look in the wazzapp thread you will find people helping out who have the patience of the saints ;)

Now I need to go over the thousands of posts I've thanked, and find the name that appears most frequently in the thanked posts that match the "fixes stuck issues for users" criteria. (I know it hasn't been me - other are able to be on this forum a lot more frequently, by far.)

For me, the vote is for Ajalkane. Don't know if he win a N9/N950 in the Coding Competition, but he gives the best support, feedback, the most friendly answers and always wants to find a solution to whatever problem or strange suggestion you have with his apps, specially ProfileMatic.
For me he is the truly old spirit of talk.maemo.org

The single most... no idea, most of my questions/queries/problems are helped by a handful of people though. reinob, freemangordon, AapoRantalainen, Mentalist Traceur, Hurrian, vi_, marmistrz, misiak, misterc, RobbieThe1st, pali, int_ua, qwazix, Sarturn... come to think of it there is much more than handful, each and every one specialising and extremely helpful in their respective part. The above list was just out of the top of my head and is in no way exhaustive, thinking about it come more and more names. The best part about this community is even less tech-savy people like Addison are helpful and share their solutions/tricks. Really not sure what the answer to OP could be...

I've been in deep thought about this question ever since I saw this thread yesterday. It's been all I can think about. I've gone back through most of the major TMO threads and rated users based on willingness to help as well as depth of knowledge. I've consulted friends and family members, and even had a chance to organize an independent think tank consisting of some of the industry's top minds. They employed the use of sophisticated algorithms in combination with advanced AI developed solely for the purpose of answering this question.

Strangely enough, all efforts indicate a statistical tie between two TMO members: vi_ and abill_uk.

I personally cast my vote for abill_uk because his exhaustive knowledge of USB port engineering and design pretty much revolutionized this community and showed the world what was possible in terms of USB port troubleshooting.

If I were more of a software person, I would have voted for vi_ because the code in his signature has done so much to help so many.

I find the fact that people mentioned different and varried users very satisfying. It shows that this community is full of kind and modest people who are willing to help and contribute. They are a the key to the strength of this community and I really hope that they will stay here.

I swear everytime I browse the forum and I see a beginner with a problem I always see a user named michaa-...something (can't remember the exact name) helping out, no matter the level

but in general I agree with the above posts, because when I have a problem and search the forum, 90 percent of the time a solution was already posted

It changes. thedead1440 isn't a bad choice. Schturman, active in his thread, is another. Whoever it is, they were very likely NOT awarded free devices by the Council.

Ah, this is more difficult and is very open ended.
As a forum community we evolve and change.
I think all the "regulars" are helpful and each have there own expertise to contribute and debate.
This all keeps the community growing.

Once I saw a post praising him to be most helpful.Later I saw many of his posts helping others. He searches for probelms. I too have been helped by him.See his posts and come to a conclusion.He is the best.

There are quite a few elitist fscknuts who jump out of the closet at every opportunity to **** a poor sod over the head for "not searching" - I'd discount them every single time simply because if they spoke to my face in that manner and tone of voice, they'd be shuffling away with a claw hammer in the kneecap.

My favourite gadgie is freemangordon, mostly because everything he posts is quality but also because I've also seen him active in not so pioneering threads. He appears to be a nice bloke (no doubt a Hibby) Most of the other folk are passive aggressive, and probably Jambos.

Oh and of course joerg_rw has to be mentioned here as well.
At least for donating the HDDs for a proper backup of maemo-server and managing migration, but also esp. for all his work in council, as head of techstaff, being available 24/7 on IRC and all his constant efforts in maemo community development at large.
Honestly, I doubt we'd be able to chat here if joerg hadn't get things done in time, but instead relied on HiFo secretary to get servers in place for thousands of $$.

But it's also clear that one person alone cannot be the caretaker of whole maemo infra and sit on the emergencyline 24/7. So let me take the chance to encourage community to support our maemo-admins. Experienced users are very welcome to take some resposibility in maintaining to avoid situations like these. Self-driven is quite capable of being misunderstood here... ;)
