[ANNOUNCE] QDL - A download manager

QDL is GUI download manager that provides management of file downloads. In addition to direct links to files, QDL also supports other sites and filehosts.

Current features:
  • Concurrent file downloads (maximum is user-definable).
  • User-definable categories for completed downloads.
  • Add multiple URLs simultaneously.
  • Import URLs from text file.
  • Option to monitor clipboard for URLs.
  • Pause/resume downloads.
  • Restore incomplete downloads upon startup of the application.

As mentioned above, you can also provide a direct link to a file, as you would with wget. Basic auth should work, though I haven't tested it. I may add other features such as header-only downloads in future.

It seems there's a problem with garage atm, so I've uploaded the debian package to my Ubuntu One account. The link is in the first post. :)

n9 supports gtk, does it depends on hildon ? just try to strip this out and i'll see if I can rebuild it for harmattan...

Marxian may have plans for a Harmattan version, he does have an N9 after all.

One of two ways:
  1. Long-press on the item and select resume.
  2. Select 'Resume downloads' from the menu, choose the downloads from the list, then press the 'Resume' button.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] QDL - A download manager

Regarding a version for the N9, I will write a QtComponents UI for Harmattan once I've finished the work on the backend for the next version. So far, I have added support for more filehosts:
  • Depositfiles
  • FilePost
  • Hotfile
  • MediaFire
  • RapidGator
  • Uploaded.to
  • Upstore
  • Videobam

Captcha handling requires user input atm, but I plan to add support for anti-captcha services.

discoverd the 3rd way -
1. In qdl window add a downlod link for the same file and pause the download.
2.go to /MyDocs/QDL/incomplete/ there are 2 files.
3.copy the current file name in clipbord and rename it with any name
4.rename old file with copied name in clipbord(current file name).
5.go to QDL window and resume the download (can use the way 1st or 2nd mentioned by marxian)
its working for me.
wht u say

How about implement downloading torrent files :) it would be very nice, because now there lacks programs to download torrent files. I'm not talking about Transmission because with that program i had many problems when downloading files, like read-only filesystem :) Also very nice program :)

It seems there is a database problem with the current version. That's why the download did not reappear in the list after restarting QDL. It works only when starting from the terminal. The problem appears to be caused by a change in the database name, which I made prior to releasing the current version. I'll fix it for the next version.

I have no plans to support torrents. The plan for QDL is to create a FOSS alternative to JDownloader that does not require a JRE.

Not yet. I'm busy working on the backend code atm (adding support for more filehosts etc). Once that is finished and tested on desktop/Maemo5 targets, I'll start work on the Harmattan version.

marxian 2012-11-29 00:23

Re: [ANNOUNCE] QDL - A download manager

Version 0.1.0 is now available. Changelog:
  • Added more filehosts.
  • Added support for premium accounts.
  • Added support for captcha entry.
  • Added support for decaptcha service DeathByCaptcha.

http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/7...2820131.th.png http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/2...2820161.th.png http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/480...2820163.th.png http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/5...2820165.th.png

Decaptcha services require an account. Only DeathByCaptcha is supported atm, but I'll add more decaptcha services in the near future.

The full list of supported filehosts and link to the Debian package are in the first post. If you use a filehost that is not listed, request it here and I'll try to add it.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] QDL - A download manager

Thanks for your work, this type of application is much needed.

I am curious about the backend architecture - if it is modulary, how difficult is it to write a plugin for a new filehosting site?
Can plugins from some current projects be used? For example, I would like to see support for hosting site 'uloz.to', but It has already been implemented in both JDownloader (you mentioned it as an inspiration) and PyLoad (http://pyload.org/). Other modules are provided by, for example, CLI app Plowshare (http://code.google.com/p/plowshare/). It would be nice to use these modules instead of reinventing the wheel. :)

QDL uses plugins for the filehosts and recaptcha/decaptcha services. The difficulty of writing a plugin will depend on the filehost. For the most part, it's just a case of a few HTTP GET/POST methods. Most of the filehosts work in a similar way.

I presume that JDownloader plugins are written in Java, so that's probably a non-starter. I took a look at Plowshare, and it might be feasible for me to write a Qt wrapper for the modules, though whether that would be easier or more effective than reimplementing them in Qt is another matter. I'll give it some more thought.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] QDL - A download manager

just a small request marxian.
can you add a column in the downloading window that shows download speed at which the file is being downloaded.
Also is QDL downloading using single connnection or multiple number of connection can't see any setting to set no of connections.

I don't think there is any room to show the download speed in the main window, but I can add it to the status dialog that appears when you tap on one of the downloads in the list.

QDL uses one connection for each file. You can't use more than one connection to a single file in most cases, because the filehosts won't allow it (unless you have a premium account). You can, however, download multiple files simultaneously.

apart from filehost there are many sites that proide you direct links.
some sites i download have speed limit per connection so single connection always result in slow speed.

On another note how difficult it would be to write a gui for axel??

Thanks for the great work again.

Database should be working in the new version, though any data from the previous version will be lost, due to database changes.

I must confess I didn't test that for the update, as I didn't (intentionally) change anything in that part of the code. :o Seems I removed the line that connects the clicked() signal to the slot. Fixed for the next update. :) In the meantime, you can change the location in the config file located at

Code:

/home/user/.config/Marxian/QDL.conf
