[FOR DUMMIES] Add temporary mirrors of repo.maemo.org to N900 + Tablets-Dev Mirror + Scratchbox Mirror
 

MOD EDIT 22-04-2013: Since the migration is completed, the temporary repos are not needed. It should be fine using the default repos.

There have been at least 4 threads with people complaining about how to set things up till repo.maemo.org comes back up.

First things first, repo.maemo.org is down not because Council wants it that way but because there is some DNS issues causing akamai to leech the same content from the new infra; pending these issues being solved with Nokia's cooperation, skeiron.org is available for public usage.

Skeiron is using data from 26/12/12

Using the default App Manager on the N900 (HAM), firstly, disable the repos that are down.

Pictures for those who need more details:

1) Open App Manager and click on the top bar

2) After clicking on "Application Catalogues", scroll down to those catalogues that have a red sign with exclamation mark as shown

3) Now for every of these catalogues, open them and click on "Disabled" to disable them and click "Save"

Now old repos have been disabled; when they come back up you can simply go back and untick the "Disabled" option for every one of them.


Now next stage is to add new catalogues or repos by clicking on the "New" button in the "Application Catalogues" menu as in "2)" above. Clicking on "New" you would get:

This is the place where you input the temporary mirror details.

So that's all you need to do and run an update. In the worst-case scenario that you need a package and can't do the above the repos can be accessed via your browser and the package can be manually downloaded.

For first two I get "Hash Sum mismatch". Skeiron's repo doesn't report error, but it's without latest stable (v6) update.

Indeed this is an issue from repo.maemo.org; nothing that we can do till it comes back up... Its recommended to stay with skeiron as although its not the latest; its not the oldest and it has no hash sum mismatch issue...

CSSU-Thumb was never on repo.maemo.org so no worries...

Are you telling me that all this time I have been updating the repo lists in both app managers unnecessarily?

Err, no. FAM does not pick up the changes made in HAM. I had to update both.

Oh, and as kolos said, the merlin mirror gives me hash mishmash but the recommended skeiron mirror is not a cure: it gives me "sub-process bzip2 returned an error code (2)". What am I doing wrong?

Check what you entered under "distribution", is it "fremantle" or "fremantle-1.3"?

Apologies for the Fapman thing as I don't use it hence not aware of how exactly it functions...

To just test everything again, I deleted whatever I had done deleted the lists in /var/lib/apt/lists/, apt-get clean then went back to HAM, disabled catalogues and added skeiron.org for Community-Testing, Extras and Extras-devel without any issues...

Please try via apt-get update and post the logs...

Do NOT edit the HAM sources list manually but edit Application Catalogues using HAM.

I have all of my repositories disabled except for Nokia System Software Updates that it wouldn't allow me to edit.

What repo do I add if would like to install Rhapsody for Diabo?

Still seeing this error "hash sum mismatch" been installing missing pakages and depends directly from the repo but this is turning out to be a nightmare, I should not have updated my phone:(. I would like to give back to the Maemo community. How do I become a mirror? In the mean-time I reinstalled rootsh and dropbear-server is there any way to update this hash sum mismatch error? Actually the main app I need is openvpn which requires lzo2-2 anyone know where it is?

Like mentioned in the OP and after that, the mirrors are NOT the reason for the hash sum mismatch... The hash sums are mismatched due to the source having the same issue and source is currently down...

To fix this without fixing the source would be a real mess and even worst. If you use skeiron repos they all DON'T have the hash sum mismatch errors so choose it and be happy till repos come back up...

The merlin repo at the beginning is for Thumb.

Also.
BTW I see you have the same problem with bzip2 as I do. Does it not cause a problem for your HAM?

I have never edited the repo lists manually, always via the respective app manager.

Its strange when you see my logs yes I've a bzip2 error but my repos update normally via HAM and apt-get...

What concerns me is you have a GPG error for skeiron which shouldn't be happening since the GPG key is the one that you already have in your device...

Thank you for these temporary catalogues, and they saved me this time.
Just in case, I would like to backup several apps to my local, such as openssh. But I could not install them through file manager, system reported something was missing. don't know what should do to make it.

Or, if I want to make my server host these apps like a catalogue, how to do it? Please help!

It's not working for me. I followed the directions exactly and connected it to mirror 3 Skeiron. Unfortunately it says Ign on all the results pretty much... I don't know what to do at this point. I wanted to install some other programs and update everything, etc...

I'm having the same problem. When I type apt-get update it says Waiting for Headers for a while then connecting to skeiron.org... and comes through eventually with a bunch of Ign http://skeiron.org fremantle release.gpg and /free translation-en_us messages...
