I wonder, now that they have everything (SoC, the individual pieces, the physical hardware, the software) all done... if an easy upgrade would be possible.

Something LIKE upgrading to the RockChip R3066 (1.6GHz Dual-Cortex A9, 300MHz Mali400-MP4, 1GB DDR3 @40nm). And maybe even to a generic Chinese 1280x800 IPS-LCD display.

It could be as easy as plug 'n play, and make changes to the kernel and drivers. Assuming one of these large SoC manufacturers would provide them with proper source code.

Since they are more in control - it'll surely be easier for them to produce future releases and upgrades.

Is the actual Vivaldi Plasma tablet available yet?

Not yet. It's work in progress still. If you want to play with Plasma Active now, I'd advise you to get Asus Nexus 7.

AMLogic is just as bad. But doesn't the RockChip at least have a Ubuntu port. Its also more abundant (higher volumes and on more devices).

Its too bad OMAP, the innovators, are out of the game.

I'm on the lookout for a convertible/hybrid, for both tablet use which can also double as full laptop replacement. KDE with Plasma seems to be a quite obvious candidate, capable of running touch-variant as pointer-based/full desktop variants of software.

Perhaps Intel might provide a good alternative. Haswell based or newer Atoms looks quite interesting. And Intel at least (usually, recently) has good Linux-support.

Too bad every x86-device on the market today is infested with Windows 8, for which I'm not willing to pay.

^ Isn't that a generation behind the RockChip?

(Which is one generation behind current standards, and we're on the eclipse of the next generation).
