thanks.

+1 on satellite mode...but not so much on twitter and facebook sharing.
Hopefully Satellite mode comes when the openstreetmap is incorporated in Meerun.

If not drop a complaint to your local consumer authority and let them handle the dispute. :D

Nokia's answer so far:
"Let me assure you that your case is already being investigated and our relevant team is doing their very best to have it fixed as soon as possible."

In other words, they pretend to work on this issue for more than 1 week but are actually doing nothing. Additionally, they refuse to provide any compensation. The current revenue for the app is 0$, I am wondering where the money is going to...

Hi,

I paid for the App in the Store but I've given up on download. Can you somehow check that I paid and send me the .deb out-of-band ?

Thanks!

Nice work. Will most likely take a poke into this

Hmm? If you study the support section of Sports Tracker's web site <http://www.sports-tracker.com> you'll see a lot of wishes for bug fixes and new features. Fox example, there are no GPS filtering and the offline mode is not working as it should do. These and many other details are fixed by the MeeRun application. Perhaps there will be more useful features with new versions? I highly appreciate MeeRun after using Sports Tracker on Nokia N9!

Is there possible to have .deb file outside of OviStore and pay for it using other methods? (Flattr or PayPal)

DId a decent length mountainbike ride today with MeeRun - worked somewhat better than SportsTracker although it lacks auto stop & start... Was maybe 10% off from what my Polar measured but at least it worked without the ridiculous need for a data connection... I'm sure Benoit will work on the accuracy\filtering as he can...

I guess the raw GPS signal is very weak because the accuracy should be much better than that! Can you send me your file (also the corresponding .mrgpx files in /home/user/.MeeRun)?

Thanks, I imagined that to be the case... Have sent you the files out of band.

Is the download problem still not solved? Bought the app when it first appeared in the store, tried downloading 4-5 days in a row, got the maximum downloads message, paid for the app again today, but seems the problem still remains. Is there any way I can get hold of the deb file and install myself. The app seems promising and I'm anxious to try it out.

Re: [Announce] MeeRun - Sport Tracking application for Nokia N9

Hi,

i tested the app 3 days now, and i really love the UI and usability. It was ok to record a track that lasted about 2 hours. Interactive replay is great, i would suggest something like a play / pause button.

The big problems came, when i was on a 3-day-tour and tried to record longer tracks, i started at about 10am and was on tour until about 6pm, but sadly it was impossible to record such a long track.

I tried it the first day with battery about 70% and no PSM etc. the battery died after 4 hours and the track was gone.
The second day, i made a new try, battery at 99%, PSM and Flightmode on to save battery, but the battery also died after 6 hours and the track was gone.

Long story short, battery consumption is far too heavy.

On the third day, i used Track@Way to compare the impact on the battery, it used only about 20% of the battery for recording 8 hours (from 92% to 72%).

Is there anything you can do to reduce the consumption?

Apart from that, great app! :)

Thanks for the feedback! I will have a look at the battery issue, the app itself does not require that much energy but there must be a reason for it. Do you use the map? MeeRun's screensaver? Standard screensaver? Another reason might be the animation of the GPS bars (above the Lap/Stop buttons), I will try to make more tests!

I did not use the map or the MeeRunn screensaver, i just kept in in my pocket and did nothing else with the phone. On the second day i even turned LPS off to save battery.
Maybe sometimes GPS-Signal was weak, although i never was in buildings, but in the woods.

Maybe the easiest test, you can make to reproduce this, ist just turning recording on and then just let it run for some hours.

Are there any calculations for correction or something like that running in the background? Maybe they get heavier and heavier, when time / track get longer?

bwalter 2013-04-03 14:28

Re: [Announce] MeeRun - Sport Tracking application for Nokia N9

No, the power needed for calculation should be limited and does not grow with time.

Until now, I have found that the GPS itself is the major battery eater. A possible optimization (maybe used by Track@Way?) is to disable GPS during pauses and wake up when a move is detected by the accelerometer.

I will try to perform more measurements (already did a few ones using the energy profiler).

Something like auto-pause would be good, though i don't know if it's used in Track@Way like this. What i found MeeTrainer and Track@Way and some other apps is the possibility to set the record interval, i think, this is something that could also help...
the interval seems to be extremely "dynamic" at the moment, when i go through the track i recorded by replay , it varies from 2s to 6min.

The record interval is actually 1s but depending on the current speed and accuracy, some values will be filtered/averaged and the final record will have higher intervals.

For example:
- moving slowly and/or bad GPS signal: higher interval
- moving fast and/or good GPS signal: smaller interval

That said, a smaller interval, while useful for accuracy, may require more energy. If it is the case, custom intervals will be added to the filter dialog.

I had a bike trip about 200 km and active riding time was more than 9h last summer. Tracking was done by Sports Tracker with a heart rate belt. There was no problem with the battery.

During small biking tours (less than 1 hour), I do not see a big difference in the power consumption between Meerun and Track@away.

@Leinad:
Which parameters are you using in Track@way for having such a low power consumption?

I also did not notice a big difference on my first short tour. Maybe you have time for a bigger tour at the weekend and can also test it out?

My settings for tracking in Track@Way are attached. Apart from that, i had PSM and Flightmode on, Wazapp off.

I'm not sure that settings for time and distance will influence the tracking mode if you are under "automatic", have you tried to change to see if there are any difference?
Btw, using T@W in "time based" mode (2 seconds) with 3g connection and pgz latitude on I tracked for more than 6 hours going from 100% to 60% :D

You are right, in automatic mode, interval and distance are not taken into account.
This is explained in the help page.

It's really very sad for the developer of MeeRun (nickname bwalter) as also for buyers of the application that there are problems with Nokia store preventing downloads. MeeRun gets bad ratings due to problems of Nokia only.

Btw. Last year the Sports Tracker application was missing totally from Nokia shop for a long time.

Special thanks for bwalter and let's hope for the best in the future!

It seems like many have the exact same problem as I have.
I paid for MeeRun April 5th and have tried to download quite often ever since. Today I got the error message about maximum downloads reached. I've e-mailed nokia, but due the answer with tips I got back I doubt they've even read my message. I hope to get refunded so I don't have to pay twice. Seems to be a really nice app that is just what i'm looking for. Really a shame how nokia deal with this.

Very nice application. Thank you.

The only thing that I miss right now is a Pause Button. Maybe swiping left Stop Button?

New message from Nokia: they are doing their best, bla bla bla. Seems to be a huge technical challenge for them to make a download work. Anyway, a new release will be ready soon, it will hopefully bring more luck :)

Update (2013.04.13): new release (1.1.1) has been submitted to the app store

I noticed that the version in the app store hasn't been updated to version 1.1.1 yet.

1.1.1 has been submitted but it may take 1 to 5 days to be validated by QA and be available on the store.

It's there anything that keeps the developer from making this app available via sure kind of direct method? Send payment to developer via PayPal, user gets app? Not permanent solution, but I've that could help with getting feedback and such till it hits official channels.

Just a thought.

Problem is that someone would probably leak the deb package into the wild. Ofcourse this is possible from the store also as it doesn't need much technical knowledge to copy the package while it's being installed, but I can understand why a developer wouldn't want to release a proprietary software package outside the store.

bwalter 2013-04-19 07:59

Re: [Announce] MeeRun - Sport Tracking application for Nokia N9

After 1 week (!) of testing, Nokia's QA rejected the 1.1.1 release, because:
- the application "must" include a Privacy Policy, although it actually does not collect any Personal Data!
- "the application does not prompt (active consent) the user for permission to use Location Data and should include an 'OPT-OUT' feature that disables the use of Location Data". In other words, I should add an option for users to disable GPS in my GPS tracking application!

The funny thing: 1.1.1 changes are absolutely not related to the QA complaints. In the meanwhile, after 1 month, they still did not manage to solve the download issue. I am now convinced that Nokia is making a joke...
