Hi, I use this app together with the Nokia CP-531. It works great except for one thing. If it isn't really bright sunshine outside the N9 will go into lock screen and the Meerun lockscreen can't be shown. It seems like the Nokia CP-531 blocks out almost all sunlight. Is it possible to make the Meerun lock screen prevent the phone from entering the real lock screen? Would be very appreciated!

By the way, nice to see MeeRun being highlighted in the store. Attached an image :)

Re: [Announce] MeeRun - Sport Tracking application for Nokia N9

These past weeks, despite the bad weather in my area, I made a lot of bicycling tours and made comparisons between the following app: Meerun, Meetrainer, Track@way, Marble, Poluilla, GpsLogMee. The last two ones do tracks recording only.

The accuracy of MeeRun is very good, with MeeTrainer beeing just a little bit better. The difference is minimal. I did not change the filtering parameters in Meerun.

Power usage of MeeRun is still high, even with the last version. This is not convenient for long runs and is the only defect I found in this app.

In terms of features, I find that MeeRun is the best one and the UI is great :)

Hi there, just realized that there is no altitude information stored within the gpx-files. Would it be possible to add this feature? I think this information is provided by the gps receiver anyway, so it shouldn't be complicated to include this information in the gpx-files, right? Thanks in advance for your reply! PS: Is there any indication yet when the next update will be available?

The device lock screen is actually disabled during trainings. I cannot reproduce the problem (are you using version >= 1.1.2?). Or maybe I did not understand what you mean?

Re: [Announce] MeeRun - Sport Tracking application for Nokia N9

It is indeed easy to implement but the GPS altitude is actually very unreliable (the accuracy is very bad compared to the horizontal information). Adding the altitude information is planned, though, but I will have to add some more filtering or ignore the information for distance calculation and use it only for diagrams and data files. Another idea is to use SRTM data, which is very accurate, but is more complex (because it requires the download the data...).

It will be ready in about 2 weeks!

Re: [Announce] MeeRun - Sport Tracking application for Nokia N9

As far as I know, MeeTrainer seems more accurate because it only keeps 1 signal every 5 seconds. It makes the track smoother but it also means that the precision is lower...

You understood me correctly :). I use version 1.1.2. Since you sent it to me by email, I don't have the one shown when searching ovi store. If I delete 1.1.2 from my phone, maybe I can download 1.1.4? I doubt because of the error message I get when trying to leave a review.

There might be a problem with the version I sent you by mail. You can try downloading the version of the app store (1.1.2 is fine, too).

MeeRun is much better Sports Tracker I found.
Battery eating is very light.
It would be very useful to add clock to program lockscreen.
And it would be nice if you can add some calories burning, weight control function.
Anyway thank you.

I'm using Version 1.1.4 as installed from Nokia Store. Last time i've used it to track a ~120km bike tour. Unfortunately, i have no files because my N9 died (power outage) before i've reached my destination.

it'smuch better than the first version, but happened to me often too, sadly.... i think, the easiest fixes for that problem could be manual pause and manual setting of record interval.

Indeed, some (unsorted) ideas:
  • different record intervals for different activities
  • movement detection :: no (or only little) movement -> disable GPS receiver or at least enlarge the measurement interval
    • automatically stop recording if speed is below a defined value.
    • use different minimum speed values for different activities
  • save the track data in intervals, so that at least the track data until power outage is available
  • ... to be continued

Re: [Announce] MeeRun - Sport Tracking application for Nokia N9

A few updates (for the next MeeRun versions)
- Positioning will no longer use WIFI (only GPS), which should save quite a lot of power
- Update frequency will be configurable
- It will be possible to manually disable GPS during pauses

Is there any way to update to 1.1.4? I bought the app from http://store.ovi.com/content/357611 which is broken. When I go to the "correct one" in the store, it sometimes tell me there is a free update available and sometimes no update at all. However when I try to update it's in fact not free. :(

bwalter 2013-06-18 08:51

Re: [Announce] MeeRun - Sport Tracking application for Nokia N9

I did not upload the version 1.1.4 because it does not have anything more than 1.1.2 expect for the paranoid and annoying option to optionally disable GPS (required by Nokia QA...). Version 1.2.0 will be more useful :)

The only items which are supported are:
http://store.ovi.com/content/363791
http://store.ovi.com/content/366068

The problem is that you are using the old, broken item and it won't be maintained any more. Best thing to do would be to ask Nokia for a refound, otherwise I can also send you the release by e-mail.

Well, I would be satisfied if the altitude information would be only used for the diagram and not for the distance calculation. The thing is, if you use MeeRun for hiking or mountain biking, you usually have a strong interest in knowing the altitude profile you have mastered. So please include that in one of the next releases. MeeRun is almost perfect for me, the only thing that is missing is the altitude information...

I think a good way to get very accurate altitude information would be to look it up on some geographical data servers on the internet using the longitudinal and lateral coordinates. This could be done after finishing the recording of the track in order to save battery life. However, the downside of this method would be that the vertical position is always fixed to the ground... I think it would make sense to implement an option so that the user can choose whether she our he wants accurate altitude information or unbound vertical position logging!

Re: [Announce] MeeRun - Sport Tracking application for Nokia N9, Symbian and BB10

You are right, the GPS altitude is irrelevant for distance calculation but it still makes sense to use it for diagrams. I have a couple of ideas of how the real altitude can be calculated (geographical data servers like SRTM definitely make sense) and added to the activity settings.

Re: [Announce] MeeRun - Sport Tracking application for Nokia N9, Symbian and BB10

Altitude makes sense but if you use the GPS to measure the altitude and calculate the distance, you really don't need to go to the mountains to reach a kilometer up and down :) GPS vertical accuracy is very bad, that's why it only makes sense to use it for diagrams, not for distance calculation.

Re: [Announce] MeeRun - Sport Tracking application for Nokia N9, Symbian and BB10

SRTM is the way to go for reliable altitudes in my opinion. I look forward to that option in future version of MeeRun.

I would as I've mentioned before love to see some kind of pacekeeping/best run-feature that triggers audio cues. For example if I want to run at 4.30min/km or faster I can set MeeRun to guard that limit and if I go slower during my run MeeRun will notify me with a beep and when I'm back at the correct pace another beep(different beep) will trigger. This way I can compete with myself and I don't have to glance at my phone that much.
This feature can be done even more refined: Let's say I run a route I often run and want to compete with the best time I've run before. MeeRun could then use the previous data and compare the current run with the best one for that route in the archive.

Let's say I'm running a 4km long route...MeeRun could then divide that route per kilometer and audio cue me differently at each km depending on the data. Let's say there's a big hill the second km of the route which always makes me run slower there. Then MeeRun will know that my average pace on the second km is for example 5min/km and keep me updated about how I'm running compared to my best run on that part of the route. When I'm on the third km of the route MeeRun compares me with the average pace I had there on my best run which might be 4.20min/km due to a large downhill etc.

I know that correct distance, altitude, offline maps and energy consumption are more important, but I mention my wish here again from time to time so that it's not forgotten.....it's a feature that makes for example running or biking a lot more fun :)

Re: [Announce] MeeRun - Sport Tracking application for Nokia N9, Symbian and BB10

How do you overlay/draw the route in the Blackberry version? AFAIK you can only overlay a bitmap, which is why i havnt yet ported my everytrail app to BB, the QML map widget is much more powerful than the cascades widget.

bwalter 2013-06-20 11:28

Re: [Announce] MeeRun - Sport Tracking application for Nokia N9, Symbian and BB10

I don't forget :) Training goals will definitely be supported (incl. settings a previous training at goal). But some time is needed...

To be able to automatically recognize segments of previous data is however quite a big challenge for human software engineers, though ;)

Now that you went crossplatfrom I suggest doing a server side after you update N9 client.
Run the competition to the ground and create a new working and simple sport and activity portal. ;)

Re: [Announce] MeeRun - Sport Tracking application for Nokia N9, Symbian and BB10

Here is the changelog:

- possibility to manually pause a training
- added support for more map providers (OpenStreetMap, OpenCycleMap, MapQuest, ...)
- added support for offline tiles (downloaded with external tools like jTileDownloader)
- only use GPS position (do not use wifi for positioning)
- added activity-specific and custom GPS measurement intervals (minimize battery usage for long activities)
- in replay view, added "press and hold" functionality for navigation
- new button design (thanks to Martin Andrén!)
- improved arrow in the map
- display training duration below distance in calendar view
- write GPS altitude values in GPX file
- display a warning when starting/resuming trainings without GPX signal
- enable/disable GPS from the training menu

Re: [Announce] MeeRun - Sport Tracking application for Nokia N9, Symbian and BB10

Can't wait for those additions! MeeRun is gaining on Sports Tracker fast, and already surpasses it in some areas (lik accuracy).

Some things I would personally like to see added/expanded upon:
  • Landscape orientation (with lock) for those running with an armband. Right now, even the screensaver has to be read upside down while running, which is inconvenient. (And no, turning the phone upside down is impossible because of the AUX-port :p)
  • Speed displayed on the lockscreen. Right now I use Sports Tracker in dark theme mode and with screensaver disabled, which shows a lot more ad-hoc info while running. But actually, if MeeRun's screenlocker would just display the current speed (and maybe also average speed) next to the elapsed time and distance, then that would already be more than enough.
  • Maybe add the time&date automatically to the name while exporting. I have different running tracks and mostly name my trainings to the track I ran at that time. But after several weeks I would've ran all my tracks several times and they would carry that same name while being exported -> Confusion! :)
  • Auto-export or batch-export: Would make it a lot easier for heavy users, having to manually export every single workout can get tiring ;)

Just those 4 things (even just the first 2) would make me ditch Sports Tracker without a second thought! Now I see myself using ST more than MeeRun, although the latter has a far better and more pleasing UI.

For completion: I'm using and comparing MeeRun&ST on an 808PV (Symbian).

Re: [Announce] MeeRun - Sport Tracking application for Nokia N9, Symbian and BB10

All those features are planned, next one will be changeable fields (for both main and lock screens).

Release 1.2.0 (for N9) passed the QA review, will be probably available before tonight :) Symbian release is done, will be uploaded today or tomorrow.

You are probably using one of the old items. Package has been uploaded for all ones but QA has only reviewed one item so far:

- 363791 (official item) has already the 1.2.0 version.
- 366068 and 357611 (old items): 1.2.0 release still pending...
