might be worth contacting pcwor!d to see if they were expecing stock at any time soon, especially as thier collect@store price at £249 is pretty good. if nothing else maybe they will sell you the display model. in fact i might ask that at my local one!

If you can delay your trip until November then this would be just the ticket

hmmm... too late for me this time.
Anyway, I followed tabletrat's suggestion and wrote to PCWorld to ask them; their reply was that they expect to get it back in stock sometime in the near future.

Thanks for the offer, but I'd rather not buy 2nd hand (and besides, the price at the airport is only 238 pounds). I was just hoping to find a similar or lower price (excl. VAT) before I get to the airport, especially since I prefer not to wait for the last moment.

To be honest I don't think you'll find it cheaper than £238, my work sometimes involves spending time at Heathrow and I've been looking at the N800 in Dixons ever since I purchased my 770. Admittedly Dixons, although "tax free", charge the maximum RRP and then take off the discount. That said this is still one of the best deals I've seen.

MST- you're right, but since I'll be flying to a country outside the EU I can get the VAT back, so PC World's price seems like a better deal than Dixons. But maybe I'm spending too much energy on this...

Yes that is true linguini - if you purchase it at PC World and then claim the VAT back it will work out cheaper, but there are 2 factors to consider: 1. Will PC World have it in stock when you visit? 2. There will be an administration charge when obtaining your VAT refund (Though I have no idea how much this will be).

In any case you could try both methods, if you go to PC World and it's not in stock there's nothing to stop you picking one up at the airport, assuming they have one that is.

Let me know how you get on ;)

That's what I'll do. Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions; when I'm back I'll post here what I found.

Also worth considering is that with Dixons Tax Free you get 90 days returns period, rather than 28 days, if using Dixons at BAA airport.

Further to my last post it might be worth calling Dixons to check whether they actually have an N800 in stock, if so explain that you are travelling into Heathrow next week and ask them to hold one for you. I did the same when I purchased a TomTom from Dixons at Gatwick, that way you're covered if PC World don't have any in stock ;)

Thanks again for the advice. Now I must get an N800, because I really like this forum ;)
