[Announce] Travel Guide for N9 released
Hi,
Travel Guide app for Nokia N9, is now freely available in Nokia Store: http://store.ovi.com/content/357598 Travel Guide is an application that displays content based on device location. It displays wikipedia articles near you and answers the question what is this place and what interesting locations are nearby. Enjoy. |

Really nice and usefull app. Thanks for that.
That being said, may I ask if there will be support for optional images being displayed? And perhaps a search function, not based on GPS? Edit: typo's. |
Really nice. But most places are found if English is selected. When I switch to dutch some places are gone. I guess due to no written articles in dutch of those places? ^^

Re: [Announce] Travel Guide for N9 released
My plan is to keep the App such that it only displays content based on the location, it's not intended to be a Wikipedia client. For the time being I'm not displaying the images, and I might keep it that way.
I don't know if I have much time to develop the App, but if I have I will most likely take it more towards and offline capabilities. So, the use case would be that at a hotel or some WiFi spot user could download the articles to the device before going to explore a city and if there is an interesting location user can check if there is an article on that location without a need of using data connection. |

Thanks. The reason for a search function would be to be able to do some trip planning in advance. That would also allow you to cache pages while still on your wifi at home. Either way, appreciated.

Regarding the search functionality, would you search for a location, like "Munich" and expect to get a list of locations in Munich? Or were you thinking a search by location name, like "Technology Museum" (in Munich).
Personally I favour first over the second, some how I feel the generic search takes the App a bit different direction and also then you could query any Wikipedia article with it, which I don't like so much. But please give your thoughts, how you would use the App. Thanks. |

So, to me, it would be really nice to plan a trip to Paris, one weekend, and be able to see what's available that I hadn't thought of just yet. If there is so much to see and read up on in the area where I live, I am certain it will be even better in places I know less well than my hometown. And like I said, it would be an excellent opportunity to cache the search results as well, while still on your home network. Thanks again! |
Great app, tks!

I contacted Nokia and they said their store upgrade broke N9 downloads. Now it's fixed and seems like people are able to download the App from store. If you like it, please give feedback in the store.
Thanks for your interest. |
