Re: Both N900... On the last road! RIP!

Hey everyone. It's been 2 days since I've been here. I read every single post and I have to add the following.

I don't want to cheat in computer science. I go to a computer science college to learn about computer science, but it seems that I have to pass a year with all the useless courses like graphics (autocad), like countless types of math and the most annoying of all... a course about culture and civilization around the world... Those useless things I need to pass, especially math...

Even since I started programming various devices or make some Windows apps or making a website (php), I managed to bypass the mathematical methods and do it my way. I need to pass this 1st year to get to the real deal (I hope, I really hope that starting with the 2nd year we can get to the real deal).

Let me tell you something. I do this because I want to learn to program, I want to learn how to be efficient, I want to learn COMPUTER SCIENCE, not about dead people and how to draw in autocad a part (I don't really know what that is, but looks like a piece of pipe - posted in off topic the project) of a TOILET OR A SINK...

Now, I saw some users that want to make donations. I don't know what to say about that... Thank yo guys, but I don't know if it's okay... It's pretty expensive, and you work hard for that money, why give it to a stranger on the internet?

About the soldering... Look, my idea was this. This is the chip, the chip is made out of ceramic, ceramic is a good heat conductor, heated up, it would conduct heat to the connections, heat them enough to liquify the soldering paste, everything will connect back, and the phone would work perfect. THAT WAS MY PLAN... And now I regret it, but it was the final solution, the gsm wouldn't work at all... At that moment, it seemed like a good idea, and seeing that another user did this and he was running smooth for 3 weeks and counting made me do it. I'm sorry if I offended you by doing this brutal thing.

About my ideeas, I have lots, that's how I do most of my projects... I have an idea, I try it, if I fail, that's ok, if I do it, I am a genius.

Also I didn't make this post to complain, I made this post to find out what I did wrong, maybe find out a fix (since some of the people here like my work) so I can continue the work.

I hope I covered all your questions. Hope you have a great day!

If the OP is representative of a contemporary computer science student, we're doomed.

Math is useless for CS? Countless people just rolled over in their graves.

TheoX, Math is far from being useless. LOL.

It's good that you don't want us to donate to you (a stranger), but you need to be more open minded about what you should learn. It's good to get a rounded education (even culture) because it gives you a broader view of the world.

As far as ceramic being a good conductor of heat... tell that to the Space Shuttle engineers. :o

Pretty sums it up. Leaving math alone, the "autocad is useless for a computer science student" part also makes many people to turn in their graves ;) Well, maybe we've just seen a born of another "who need that feature" corporation CEO... ;)

RIP that thread, it starts to look more and more like a kind of reality show.

You know what, you're all right. I had a rough period, and the last drop was my N900 dying. I wasn't thinking straight, and for me it seemed everybody is against me and my thoughts. NO! F*ck that. I really need all those things, for only one reason, you don't know when you're going to get hit by a chance to use them. As for the Autocad, even if I'm only a beginner, I know how to do something, but that 3D was overwhelming, until guys explaining things, more or less they way that all of you did, made me realize some things. I need everything, more or less. Maybe I am going to learn something now, and maybe I am going to use it again in 20-30 years, and it will be much easier to use it if I learn it now, than to do research then.

As for the chip, ok, there my mistake was of saying it's made out of ceramic. Well, it's not, but with my knowledge, I knew that the chip is made out of a material that will act more or less like a heat sink for easy cooling, so i would heat it on the top surface, the heat gets transmitted to the pins and fix them.

I am sorry for my immature acting, I am really sorry. Now, If I got back (i think) to my mature self, can we talk about how can I fix that?

As far as I am concerned, you have fixed it by the above statement.

Unless you are talking about the phone that you ****ed up with the soldering iron.
That one is ****up up for good, I'm afraid ;)

I will not give up on it... NEVER... I now own a SGS1, and it's a powerful device, slim, slick, nice, quite fast... BUT IT'S NOT MY N900. The N900 was love at the 1st sight, and no other device can do that to me...

I am going to have patience, maybe an opportunity to fix it will appear. And if somebody wants to donate something, like some users wanted, don't donate money, donate a functional motherboard form a damaged N900, that's the most you can help me.

Right now, I can't invest anymore money into fixing that N900, because, as much as I am in love with it, the sound system in my car broke down (time [+6years] + heat [6 very hot summers] - no this time I didn't use the soldering iron = membrane on allmost all speakers membrane broke) so I have to change them, so this is a priority now :). But the N900 won't be forgotten.

Good for you. Not all people can rectify and even admit any type of responsibility, but you passed that test.

About learning "useless" things. Nothing is useless if you enjoy it, and if you get something out of it. What you get out of it could be immediate (or short term) practical use, or it could be a less concrete payoff, like personal betterment. The fact is that just by learning anything you are doing your brain a favor. And as a matter of fact, the brain improves from learning diverse things.

Like a wise being once said, "learn you must, young Jedi, but impatience good for you is not". Don't be impatient, enjoy the ride, and don't think about the learning process as a means to a destination, but as the destination itself.

P.S,.: Sorry for my very poor impression of Yoda. </Hangs head in shame>

Reinob, I think it clearly says more about our (UK) quality of education than how broken gnome is.

I have read Gconf help exactly 0 times. The whole '--type=string' thing...sheesh, '=' is the simplest of all operators. I am not even a graduate of computer science! I am not a graduate of ANY science!

I can only conclude either the OP is legitimately, medically ******ed or he is not really a graduate of anything.

As for the guy who tried to reflow his GSM chip by heating it with a soldering iron...if you thought that was a good idea, perhaps paying attention to these 1st year remedial classes would be a wise decision.

Edit://I just read the previous page of this thread. Math...useless...to computer science... I am without words.

Son, if there is ONE thing you should focus on to be a good programmer, it is maths. Maths is what separates us from the Apeoid humanzee's with their under developed sense of humor and crinkled hands.

I would give ANYTHING and EVERYTHING to go do university and school again, you have one shot TheoX. Don't **** it up.

Double Edit:// I am legitimately employed and I have a '4 car...1994. I have a 1.9 Xantia Turbo Diesel. Greatest car ever. So good I just bought another (1994 Xantia) to keep as a spare. Coincidentally, if anyone knows of any 1.9TD Xantia going cheap in the UK (<£300) PM me.

No way my parents give me money to buy things like devices or cars. You don't NEED that is their argument and actually I agree while I ofcourse want a newer laptop, a car and such but I actually don't need it but if I want it. I am free to work for it. BTW I am not complaining, actually I should thank my parents for letting me feel some responsibility. Responsibility sucks though.:D

And.. roll drum... in case there's some interest in this: ever since I bought the 48S my "life project" (to call it something, I'm now 36) has been to make an emulator for it. Not one-to-one, but something I can use on a computer.

The first one was in 8080 for the Amstrad PCW8256. Later re-done in Basic. Later redone as a bootable-from-diskette-entirely-self-sufficient-look-mama-no-BIOS operating system running in protected mode for the 386 (yeah, Linus beat me about the general-ness of the OS, but mine was more elegant :). The latest incarnation (in plain C) is a kind of implementation of the SysRPL language (the bastard child of LISP and FORTH, look that up and give a new light to your life!) which happens to compile nicely for the N900 (even the ncurses interface).

I'll open a thread one of these days. If I forget, ping me.

It's a '06 car by the way, and before I was 18 and could drive a car, I saved up the money I got from school because of high grades. When I turned 18, I was disappointed because I didn't have enough money to get a car... My parents didn't have too, but they helped me find this car I own right now, from a leasing company, a car that was not paid and recovered from the owner. And then... I bought this: A 06 Fiat Albea, the 2nd model (check prices).

In this winter I had an accident with it, and the damage was about 1500 euros (for the non-believers I can post pictures with the car + service invoice)... I needed to make a loan so I could pay the repairs, since I started loving this car more and more.

So that's why I am broke right now: paying the loan, gas, college books that teachers make us buy (not to use them, just to BUY a useless book, to keep @ home, to give that teacher some money - P.S. EXTREMELY OVERPRICED BOOKS) and some harmless weekend fun, like going to the countryside, having barbeques and stuff...

I never said I don't make money, I just said I'm broke a.t.m.

The only laptop my parents bought me was 6 years ago. I was in 9th grade @ high school, and I needed that laptop to follow a course to get in a Siemens internship. It was the 1st and the last internship like that (for the 9th graders with excellent results in programming) and they took as for 3 months to Siemens in Austria. Since then all my laptops I have: the netbook (i own it by selling my old laptop - the 1st one i've got), a toshiba which I've got from a friend which I helped buy a new good laptop and he asked me: you want it, here, have it, and my tablet pc, which I got second, it's the perfect aid for college (fujitsu t4220).

As for the car... trust me I need it. The college is near the exit of the city, where you can find lots of gypsies and "thugs", and I go around on my feet, maybe at night (winter is the worse), and I don't wanna get robbed my those a*sholes (like they do most of the time).

Amen. My parents were doctors (one GP and one dentist) and they drove the same car for 25 years. Could not afford a new one on their salaries.

I use a laptop made in 2004. True, it was new and top of the range back then, but since then I acquired a mortgage and a bunch of kids so my 9 years old laptop will have to do for another few years.

Nahh, I think I will stop answering questions/explaining in this thread. Too many basement oldies who can't adapt to the new times.

Since when a car's age is calculated at the beginning of the year? Maybe you mistaken that with the car model ('02 Albea, '06 Albea and '08 Albea). My car was fabricated in August '06 so, by my math, it's still 6 years old.

Code:

You couldn't post pics of N900 because of "(...)camera is on LOW battery(...)" and now You will post results of Your poor driving skills.
Did you think straight when you writed that. Let me remind you my dear (I don't even know how to call you...) FRIEND, the thread was started 05-05-13 , 04:33, the request for pictures was on 05-05-13 , 04:55, and you come and say that on 16-05-13 , 15:57. Since that request nobody requested pics again, so I forgot. Then you come and criticize my driving skills... Like even to the best driver can happen, and you, the perfect being come and say that, like it's never going to happen to you... Maybe you will find out in life how hated are arrogant people like you.

Code:

Eheheeheh, why You writing this? That's truly great topic. Can You make it more passionate and tell us a story that is behind Your avatar, is that Your girl, is that You? And can You send me PM with the list of stuff that You use to snuff, drink or else that make it all possible inside Your head?

No, the other party was covered by my insurance. My damage: both headlight, front spoiler, the hood, the right piece of metal that's over the wheel (I don't really know the name of that part - here we call it a wing), the radiator and the cold air admission. Got it in service, said I want only original parts, and after 1 month and a half, I got the invoice for 1.500EUR (again, original parts + working hand + the fact that the car stayed in the service for >1mo).

Code:

Guys take it easy on him.. Everyone's different with different limits, times have changed also.. You can't go on comparing what happened back in the day with you or even your parents..

Mentalities have also changed dramatically and also the way of life.. Now did it change for the better or worse that's debatable..

No, let them speak, this is showing how unadaptive some people can be. People that must start almost every sentence like this: "Kiddo, in my time..."

Code:

What a load of horsesh*t.
And that's how he reacts to a fine argument, bringing in discussion animal feces.

Code:

Listen, when I was young we had to work on the fields during the day, in the factory during the evening and in the weekends we went to war...
That irony made me laugh hard, you pointed out 70% of the users in this thread.

Code:

This thread is bull****.
Leave the man alone, everyone has their problems.
And don't forget about the crysis.
Here in Croatia the situation changes every now and then.

Yeah, it's not like it's used to be, money are harder to make, easier to spend. That's life. We adapt to it and move forward.

Code:

Please do elaborate.. You want to tell me that the mentality of this generation is the same as the people back in the 70s-90s?...

Think again..

If you think that the way of life is the same as 70s-90s..

Think again..

I was simply stating the difference between now and back then that's all.

Man, leave him alone, that how a basement oldie reacts when he loses an argument on the internet.

Code:

I'm broke and 16, 1 parent has a part job, huge loan and for chrissake my N900 died.

And BTW Croatia has 4mil. people and 380k are unemployed..

That's ... hard ... At least I had an alternative to replace my N900 (with SGS) and gain back some of the functions, and even some extras. My oppinion, DON'T GO TO WORK, screw these oldies, study hard, get that money for good grades. This way, you have the money, and you have the studies, it's easier to get employed with lots of diplomas and knowledge in some/more domains. Or, if you can get some help, start your own mini business, I have with a friend an event company. We go to small events, have some dj devices, some speakers, and we spend a night having fun along with the party, and get some extra cash.

Nahh, I think I will stop answering questions/explaining in this thread. Too many basement oldies who can't adapt to the new times.

Try to stay calm, without calling people names. First earn cash Yourself to buy car, laptop, mobile, etc. instead getting quits from Your mommy, after that You can be young and smart wolf. And it seams that You - begging lads here to donate mother board for Your N900 - are the only one that can't adopt to the new times? Don't You think that's true?

Since when a car's age is calculated at the beginning of the year? Maybe you mistaken that with the car model ('02 Albea, '06 Albea and '08 Albea). My car was fabricated in August '06 so, by my math, it's still 6 years old.

Since always, that's Your first car boy, You will get this later. So when Your Fiat would be from December, for the whole Year till December (25th for example) it would be year younger? Come on, think.

How can You forgot to post pics in Your thread in which You wayning about how hard is life, how hard is to study - we all know that. Is it still on LOW battery? Or did You forgot again?
Good driver will be hit by little budy (like You), only when he will trust in that everyone around him are good and skilled drivers - Wrong.

That's not Twitter, FaceBook, and so on. Try to Interact with real people in real life, telling them Your funny stories. Besides I did say Thanks For Great Topic / Thread - that's good fun.
