Re: Both N900... On the last road! RIP!
Hey everyone. It's been 2 days since I've been here. I read every single post and I have to add the following.
I don't want to cheat in computer science. I go to a computer science college to learn about computer science, but it seems that I have to pass a year with all the useless courses like graphics (autocad), like countless types of math and the most annoying of all... a course about culture and civilization around the world... Those useless things I need to pass, especially math... Even since I started programming various devices or make some Windows apps or making a website (php), I managed to bypass the mathematical methods and do it my way. I need to pass this 1st year to get to the real deal (I hope, I really hope that starting with the 2nd year we can get to the real deal). Let me tell you something. I do this because I want to learn to program, I want to learn how to be efficient, I want to learn COMPUTER SCIENCE, not about dead people and how to draw in autocad a part (I don't really know what that is, but looks like a piece of pipe - posted in off topic the project) of a TOILET OR A SINK... Now, I saw some users that want to make donations. I don't know what to say about that... Thank yo guys, but I don't know if it's okay... It's pretty expensive, and you work hard for that money, why give it to a stranger on the internet? About the soldering... Look, my idea was this. This is the chip, the chip is made out of ceramic, ceramic is a good heat conductor, heated up, it would conduct heat to the connections, heat them enough to liquify the soldering paste, everything will connect back, and the phone would work perfect. THAT WAS MY PLAN... And now I regret it, but it was the final solution, the gsm wouldn't work at all... At that moment, it seemed like a good idea, and seeing that another user did this and he was running smooth for 3 weeks and counting made me do it. I'm sorry if I offended you by doing this brutal thing. About my ideeas, I have lots, that's how I do most of my projects... I have an idea, I try it, if I fail, that's ok, if I do it, I am a genius. Also I didn't make this post to complain, I made this post to find out what I did wrong, maybe find out a fix (since some of the people here like my work) so I can continue the work. ------Non english end--------- I hope I covered all your questions. Hope you have a great day! |
Re: Both N900... On the last road! RIP!
If the OP is representative of a contemporary computer science student, we're doomed.
Math is useless for CS? Countless people just rolled over in their graves. |
Re: Both N900... On the last road! RIP!
TheoX, Math is far from being useless. LOL.
It's good that you don't want us to donate to you (a stranger), but you need to be more open minded about what you should learn. It's good to get a rounded education (even culture) because it gives you a broader view of the world. As far as ceramic being a good conductor of heat... tell that to the Space Shuttle engineers. :o |

I guess, that physic was also amongst "useless" things you had to learn about, eh? And BTW, who told you that it is ceramic, at all? As for other things, the... Quote:
RIP that thread, it starts to look more and more like a kind of reality show. /Estel |

As for the chip, ok, there my mistake was of saying it's made out of ceramic. Well, it's not, but with my knowledge, I knew that the chip is made out of a material that will act more or less like a heat sink for easy cooling, so i would heat it on the top surface, the heat gets transmitted to the pins and fix them. I am sorry for my immature acting, I am really sorry. Now, If I got back (i think) to my mature self, can we talk about how can I fix that? |

Unless you are talking about the phone that you ****ed up with the soldering iron. That one is ****up up for good, I'm afraid ;) |

I am going to have patience, maybe an opportunity to fix it will appear. And if somebody wants to donate something, like some users wanted, don't donate money, donate a functional motherboard form a damaged N900, that's the most you can help me. Right now, I can't invest anymore money into fixing that N900, because, as much as I am in love with it, the sound system in my car broke down (time [+6years] + heat [6 very hot summers] - no this time I didn't use the soldering iron = membrane on allmost all speakers membrane broke) so I have to change them, so this is a priority now :). But the N900 won't be forgotten. |

About learning "useless" things. Nothing is useless if you enjoy it, and if you get something out of it. What you get out of it could be immediate (or short term) practical use, or it could be a less concrete payoff, like personal betterment. The fact is that just by learning anything you are doing your brain a favor. And as a matter of fact, the brain improves from learning diverse things. Like a wise being once said, "learn you must, young Jedi, but impatience good for you is not". Don't be impatient, enjoy the ride, and don't think about the learning process as a means to a destination, but as the destination itself. P.S,.: Sorry for my very poor impression of Yoda. </Hangs head in shame> |
Re: Both N900... On the last road! RIP!
And then again sorry for your loss and my post.
I wish I could donate but my N900 is dead too and I'm broke..So I kinda know how that feels.. |

I have read Gconf help exactly 0 times. The whole '--type=string' thing...sheesh, '=' is the simplest of all operators. I am not even a graduate of computer science! I am not a graduate of ANY science! I can only conclude either the OP is legitimately, medically ******ed or he is not really a graduate of anything. As for the guy who tried to reflow his GSM chip by heating it with a soldering iron...if you thought that was a good idea, perhaps paying attention to these 1st year remedial classes would be a wise decision. Edit://I just read the previous page of this thread. Math...useless...to computer science... I am without words. Son, if there is ONE thing you should focus on to be a good programmer, it is maths. Maths is what separates us from the Apeoid humanzee's with their under developed sense of humor and crinkled hands. I would give ANYTHING and EVERYTHING to go do university and school again, you have one shot TheoX. Don't **** it up. Double Edit:// I am legitimately employed and I have a '4 car...1994. I have a 1.9 Xantia Turbo Diesel. Greatest car ever. So good I just bought another (1994 Xantia) to keep as a spare. Coincidentally, if anyone knows of any 1.9TD Xantia going cheap in the UK (<£300) PM me. |

No way my parents give me money to buy things like devices or cars. You don't NEED that is their argument and actually I agree while I ofcourse want a newer laptop, a car and such but I actually don't need it but if I want it. I am free to work for it. BTW I am not complaining, actually I should thank my parents for letting me feel some responsibility. Responsibility sucks though.:D |

And.. roll drum... in case there's some interest in this: ever since I bought the 48S my "life project" (to call it something, I'm now 36) has been to make an emulator for it. Not one-to-one, but something I can use on a computer. The first one was in 8080 for the Amstrad PCW8256. Later re-done in Basic. Later redone as a bootable-from-diskette-entirely-self-sufficient-look-mama-no-BIOS operating system running in protected mode for the 386 (yeah, Linus beat me about the general-ness of the OS, but mine was more elegant :). The latest incarnation (in plain C) is a kind of implementation of the SysRPL language (the bastard child of LISP and FORTH, look that up and give a new light to your life!) which happens to compile nicely for the N900 (even the ncurses interface). I'll open a thread one of these days. If I forget, ping me. |

In this winter I had an accident with it, and the damage was about 1500 euros (for the non-believers I can post pictures with the car + service invoice)... I needed to make a loan so I could pay the repairs, since I started loving this car more and more. So that's why I am broke right now: paying the loan, gas, college books that teachers make us buy (not to use them, just to BUY a useless book, to keep @ home, to give that teacher some money - P.S. EXTREMELY OVERPRICED BOOKS) and some harmless weekend fun, like going to the countryside, having barbeques and stuff... I never said I don't make money, I just said I'm broke a.t.m. |

As for the car... trust me I need it. The college is near the exit of the city, where you can find lots of gypsies and "thugs", and I go around on my feet, maybe at night (winter is the worse), and I don't wanna get robbed my those a*sholes (like they do most of the time). |
Re: Both N900... On the last road! RIP!
..so you own all these devices listed in your sig, a beamer, probably at least one laptop too, a car, and probably live in your own rooms/apartment? Are (maybe) also both of your parents working? Yay. What a nice life this would have been in the eastern bloc in the middle of the '90ies. :D (and yes, i've still got to experience a decade of GDR)

I use a laptop made in 2004. True, it was new and top of the range back then, but since then I acquired a mortgage and a bunch of kids so my 9 years old laptop will have to do for another few years. Guys take it easy on him.. Everyone's different with different limits, times have changed also.. You can't go on comparing what happened back in the day with you or even your parents..
Mentalities have also changed dramatically and also the way of life.. Now did it change for the better or worse that's debatable.. |

Leave the man alone, everyone has their problems. And don't forget about the crysis. Here in Croatia the situation changes every now and then. Guess why I don't have internet connection and am using SE S500i? |

Nahh, I think I will stop answering questions/explaining in this thread. Too many basement oldies who can't adapt to the new times.
Since when a car's age is calculated at the beginning of the year? Maybe you mistaken that with the car model ('02 Albea, '06 Albea and '08 Albea). My car was fabricated in August '06 so, by my math, it's still 6 years old. Code:
