How Install Opera Mini Beta On 770?

Looking to try Opera on my 770. I gater this is the right version. Downloaded the version for palm and it is not a bin. Newbie, how can I install this on my tablet? Thanks.
PS-I gather java can't work with the 770? Does this version work OK with the 770?
Appreciated, thanks.

Opera is already installed :)

It is the Web Browser that is on the system already, it just doesn't say "Opera". No java support... but it is being worked on ^^

Thanks for the replies. I didn't know that. Are there any updates for the browser that is on there already? appreciated.

Ehm... *cough*

Nokia is a little lacking with the browser support... so... no actual upgrades unless you wish to flash the latest OS on your device.... Which is extremely simple if you have Windows, or just a little more complicated with Linux. But! There is a Mozzila engine for the browser that could be considered and upgrade by some...

So... no real updates... Sorry ^^

Opera mini (unlike the standard opera) is a java program, it cannot run on the 770 or n800 until java support is added (which may or may not happen). Anyway, I don't see why you would need it as long as there's a full-blown opera already installed (other than for curiosity's sake)

Yes, the point of Opera Mini is to provide web browsing to devices too underpowered to have a full-blown web browser. It's written in Java because most of the phones in the class Opera is targeting have some form of Java VM. What effectively happens is most of the Opera rendering engine is on Opera's server, the Opera Mini client asks the server for a page, the server downloads and partially formats the page, and sends the result to the client, which has a much easier time displaying the partially-digested (so to speak) page.

Since the 700/N800 already have full-blown Opera onboard, rendering engine and all, there's not much sense in having Opera Mini on there too.

The benefit of adding Opera Mini is that when browsing over GPRS (using phone as modem) the data traffic is greatly reduced. Thus it's much cheaper to use.

Not a problem since I hope most of us have one of the $20-$30 unlimited data plans.
Also, running privoxy on the N770/N800 helps reduce load. So does disabling flash.

It's not immediately obvious why opera mini should reduce the data traffic (afaik the primary purpose is to reduce the CPU needed for rendering), even if the raw pages are pre-processed at that central server. But I haven't tried measuring this. I might, if I get the palm->laptop->ethernet link working again.

Opera mini DOES reduce traffic as well. It strips down the webpage and compresses as well. Sometimes the processed data is less then 1/5th of the original page.

You can use transcoding HTTP proxies like Rabbit or Ziproxy as the tablets support ordinary proxies.
I am using ziproxy to reduce data over the slow GPRS link to speed things up a bit. It is possible to gzip-compress text content and recompress/reduce quality for images.
