Pretty horrible colours.

Pic taken in front of the Ateneum (a art museum in Helsinki). The worn off concrete is most definately not green on that street.

Re: #JollaLoveDay - 20th May - device announcement

Thatīs me! =D I was wandering whether he would post the picture... I walked past Marc in front of Ateneum in Helsinki last week and he noticed me wearing my Jolla-shirt. He waved me to come over and let me try his Jolla. Unfortunately his Jolla started to vibrate almost at once, apparently he had a notification for a meeting he had to run to and I had to give it back. Didnīt manage to get a good look. =/ Before he darted off however, he told me to wait just a moment because he wanted me to do something as a first one. Suddenly I realised he was taking a picture of me with his Jolla. =D I was quite stunned and overwhelmed (as you can see =). Apparently it was the first time he had taken a picture of someone (in public) with it.

On the picture: I concur, the concrete is not green in real lide, more like reddish, brownish gray. The other colours seem to be more on the spot.

Radio Rock Korporaatio interviews (In finnish) someone from Jolla tomorrow. I cant remember who it was. :p

And Tujutzki, was it good vibration or bad and how strong it vibrates? :D

Tujutzki 2013-09-30 09:02

Re: #JollaLoveDay - 20th May - device announcement

Thanks for the notice, have to tune in tomorrow.

Definitely a good vibration. =D Quite strong and really noticeable. IIRC the vibration had a quite high frequency and was continuos, as opposed to the "on and off" -type in my N9.

The phone was surprisingly light and not at all too large.

This is good to know. However, what is your daily phone? Nokia N9? So it is not very much bigger and heavier than N9?

Tujutzki 2013-09-30 10:34

Re: #JollaLoveDay - 20th May - device announcement

Yes, I use Nokia N9 as my daily phone. Jolla was a bit bigger and the weight might even have been a bit less than my N9, but I didnīt have time to compare them.

The JollaUsers story you quoted (in which the picture's linked) mentioned it was uploaded to FB, so surely compressed & not source picture.

Please provide us with updates if possible, since Jolla often forgets about the world outside Finland...

thedead1440 2013-09-30 14:29

Re: #JollaLoveDay - 20th May - device announcement

Jalyst you keep saying they forget about the world outside Finland but if those showing an interest in interviewing them are from Finland mostly they can only accept what is in front of them... If foreign media paid the same attention to them obviously you would see them willingly grab those chances...

So let's stop blaming them when they can't do much other than pimping themselves to foreign media outlets...

Re: #JollaLoveDay - 20th May - device announcement

Well, we don't know that to be strictly the case, in many instances it appears that they're courting the media more-so than the other way around.
As all good start-ups should do. Except that it's usually far more Finnish outlets compared to other countries/regions.
I appreciate that there should be more of an emphasis on Finnish & Northern EU media at this stage.
As that's the region they're targeting initially. But it shouldn't be at the degree to which the emphasis is.
Maybe, hopefully, they'll slowly tweak it's lopsidedness as the roll-out looks likely to extend beyond the limited countries/regions they've confirmed.

Re: #JollaLoveDay - 20th May - device announcement

Must say that photo is like any medium android would produce. But we don't know whether: a) the camera mode was set to appropriate one, b) the resolution was optimal, c) taken from a social crap site, etc. LG Optimus G 13MP camera had not impressed me at first glance, N900 takes by far better photos. But then I discovered HDR mode and was more than satisfied. Still that on-screen shutter button pisses me off.

If you're talking about the on screen button on the Jolla device, I read a quote somewhere that you could reprogram a volume key to take pictures.

Rgb led indicator is very pleasant news indeed. Hmm..., no more Estrade display, instead it's IPS one, yoohoo!
OMG! User replaceable battery. The thing is definitely taking the right way.
What is HS in USB2.0 stating for? I guess sort of "high speed".

Nah imo. Comments from Jolla being we are still in the target to ship before the end of this year haven't ever sounded to me anything else than December.
Haven't expected any other month ever since the delay.

EDIT:
Actually this article claims the phone will be available in December, with no info how many units they will have out then.

IPS-Display -> this means LCD , not OLED -> this means no LPM :(

someone correct me, if this is wrong conclusion.

Yup, that's probably the reason they have added the RGB notification LED. Does anyone have a idea where on the device it is?

There's some form of LPM, it's more of a hack though & not like what's possible for AMOLED...
But at least we have the RGB LED to make up for that, some actually prefer it, as it catches ones eye from a distance much more.
I personally prefer LPM, but with AMOLED + that res/PPI, it's unlikely the overall IQ of the display would've been good.
At least with IPS it should now be pretty good at that PPI. I want to hear more about the display though, still a bit vague.

Jolla is 131 x 68 x 9.9
Lumia 920 is 130.3 x 70.8 x 10.7mm

It's a bit longer than Lumia 920, though to me that is the exact dimension that can stretch compared to thickness or especially width. Not bad, though not excellent either compared to phones like Moto X.

No, it's not the right conclusion, though I don't expect LPM.

Nokia 501 701 and 920 among others have LPM on LCD screens, with Asha, Symbian and Windows Phone respectively.

IPS seems good I definitivly prefer on laptops and desktop screen atleast.

Re: #JollaLoveDay - 20th May - device announcement

More on IPS from WIKI:

Advantages

IPS panels display consistent, accurate color from all viewing angles and without having any blur.
Unlike TN LCDs, IPS panels do not lighten or show tailing when touched. This is important for touch-screen devices, such as smartphones and tablets.[6]
IPS panels can process high speed signals without data loss by using copper wiring with low resistance values.
IPS Panels offer clear images and stable response time.[6]

Disadvantages

IPS panels require up to 15% more power than TN displays.
IPS panels are more expensive to produce than TN displays.

IPS panels are the norm on none AMOLED phone screen these days. I would expect nothing else from +300 euro device.
IPS itself doesn't tell too much, so it's up to see it in your own eyes before we can say anything about the display quality.

Good examples are Nokia Lumia 520 and 620. According to the Nokia's specifications both have IPS displays, but the quality difference is huge when you compare the phones side by side.

I doubt it's going to be resistive. It doesn't allow multitouch.
