Assuming they don't care about explaining things here, which sadly seems to be most Sailors (but I won't hold that against them -no pun intended).

Sometimes you can't do this due to legal issues (e.g., Switzerland).

Rough translation: We´re nevertheless planning to update the hardware during the second half of next year to keep us in the hardware competition, Saarnio concludes.

IMHO this is quite an unfortunate statement (notice how polite I am).
What is the point of announcing a successor before selling the original device? You can only achieve lower sales of the first device and disappoint those who have already preordered.

That's the tactic Elop'd been practicing over the last 2-3 years in order to sink Nokia.

From Ilta-Sanomat: The first batch of phones is on it´s way to Finland at the moment.
http://www.iltasanomat.fi/digi/art-1288620845965.html

http://www.gsmarena.com/jolla_will_s...-news-7185.php
Processor seems to be Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 Dual-core 1.4 GHz

And invitations (apparently more than 450) to the launch have been already sent, at least some of them. Of all those who have registered to the event, the 450 who ordered first will get in. The queue to buy the phone opens at 17 o´clock and the doors/queue (the queue is apparently inside) open to the public at 18 o´clock. The first phone will be sold at 19 o´clock.

Wow if this truly mean a successor. I so much want a big screen Jolla 5,5.hope you are right and not a extras flash drive something boring

Re: #JollaLoveDay - 20th May - device announcement

While I don't think it's bad that they're already thinking about a successor & aiming for 2nd-half 2014, I do think it's silly to be talking about it so early.
Also completely disagree about the claim made about Elop...

It's always like ground hog day all over again with dave, we have to re-explain what's been explained countless times. No dave, it won't be a hard-core specs beast, not unless you want to pay much more than the equivalent Android specs beast, & not too many people will. There'll be better "bang for buck" next yr (if they're still around), but they still won't be at a point where they can offer the same value when it comes to hw specs alone.

I just got an invitation to the jolla launch event, even though I'm not from finland. So it seems they are given to people from the first preorder batch regardless of country.

Unfortunately It's a workday so I can't make it (also it would be a bit to expensive to fly to helsinki from germany for a few hours)

If you can wait until half next year, you are correct. I know Android buyers who buy phones more often.

We're on the same page here - planning is great, takling about it in this situation is quite short sighted.

On the other hand, if he'd say there's a new device coming in 12 months, it might strengten confidence that this is not the last device to be seen.

Let me elaborate on the 'Elop' part - I'm well aware of other things Elop's done (most likely on purpose), but when you read mainstream media analyzing the fall of Nokia, they surprisingly agree on one thing - one of the main causes was announcing future devices before launching the current ones. That is the sole thing I am comparing here.

Do you still get the option to place an order & have it sent to you if you can't go?
And there's still no evidence that $0 pre-orders are being invited too, or those outside EU ($0 or not).

I'll respond to that later time permitting, low priority though as it's quite off-topic...

The mail says that If I can't make it they will send instructions on how to complete the order online and get it shipped.

And you're rigth about the 0€ preorders and preorders outside europe.

Leinad 2013-11-14 18:29

i don't understand the stress most of you got lately... for me it doesn't matter if the phone arrives on November 27th, December 7th or December 14th... no problem, to use N9 / N900 some weeks longer.

and if they manage to push out a second device with high specs 1 year after the first one: great! I'll buy it, given the first one was good...

Me too, but again, I don't intend to fly from UK to Finland just to collect a new phone. I am really looking forward to receiving my Jolla, but I am more than happy to wait for the priority mail.

Jolla should really send devices according to preorder dates. These 450 is fine. But after that please act as a professionals. This give users no reason to preorder jolla products in the future since you can get it faster anyway

It should've been a mixture of people from around the world who were in the 1st pre-order campaign, some who donated $100/40, & some who didn't. It's not a huge deal, but I do think it's pretty insensitive, especially for a tiny start-up that regularly likes to chant about being in touch with emotions & caring. Anyway, hopefully later I'll have time raise more important concern/criticisms relating some of w00ts points, bed time.

*it's not like they'd be completely subsidising shipping costs, or giving the items away for free

Of course you think it's not proper form. But they're a company of ~90 folks that's pulled off quite the engineering feat in 2 years - they're shipping a device.

So they're not shipping in my area. Cool. But they're shipping. It'll be staged. Cool. That means that it's still coming.

I'm personally not a fan of how they're communicating to the masses - it's not amplified as much as say Android or iPhone announcements, but again... they're a ~90 person company. The fact that I've heard of it, already a fan of it and trying to make my Z10 last long enough to get one... that says something.

Want to do something constructive? Spread the word. Want to continue down a path of this negativity - although I'm quoting you, I'm referencing the entire thread - then so be it. But understand that your voice this early in the game for Jolla is loud and might be damaging.

Will they have bugs? Yep. It's a 1.0 product. I cannot name one 1.0 product that I've been 100% happy with. Ever. And that's including stuff I've done...

But if you want to help them strategize how to make it up with the initial 40/100 Euro pre-sales, then I'd love to hear it. Let the first 450 be sold. I'd love to see that the people that were there "on day one" get something special. Special color, special backgrounds, special box, a special notice... all of that can make the experience different and "worth it" for those that have pre-purchased.

I put in my pre-purchase, but I didn't exactly send any money. I showed my interest. And will continue to do so. I hope others embrace what Jolla is attempting, spread the good word. Something cool could happen. And just perhaps there's more announcements about the aftermath of the November 27/450 sales, we might be getting something special.

Or not. Either way, who cares? Something is coming that's not iPhone, Android or WP8. That, I can get 100% behind.

Dude, I wish I had it myself. I'm just sitting here, learning how to be patient, knocking out a personal project in AngularJS just to avoid letting myself getting anxious over getting a Jolla phone and finding folks in Finland or soon to be in Finland to shorten my wait.

Meanwhile, I'm just going to go back to lurking before I trigger yet another splinter of discussions in this thread.

It'll soon be in my hands...

Offtopic: Jolla needs more people like you and @stskeeps that interact with us! That "live" amongst us, that make us feel like a part of something we like. We(I) really need people that listen to us and explain. We(I) can accept a lot of things when I know the reason, but the silence just makes us(me) feel ousted.

There are atleast four people here who answers questions also there is IRC.

Re: #JollaLoveDay - 20th May - device announcement

I don't even see the 27.11 event hurting anyone. A bunch 100€ preorderers will have a party and get a Jolla phone in advance. It's optional -they will get their device anyway attended they or not- and the traveling is on their own expense. Of course some hardcore fans will be pissed.

If the shipping of the device begins in early december, I think all the 100€ & 0€ preorders from Europe will arrive before christmas if ordered right away as the device is made available.
40€ and 0€ preorders outside of Europe will probably have to wait an unspecified amount of time though.

Geez! Look at all the hate towards the "crappy" specs on the other forums. and oh yeah, yandex being the app store for android apps instead of google play got people even more sceptical. Not that the Jolla is primarily planned to use Sailfish apps instead of android ones. ;)

Bussiness does not work that way.

DNA has contracted Jolla phones ofcourse they be the first. Its simple bussines and good. Because hopefully those dogslow operators in the rest of europe wakeups if 27th launch gets alot attention in media.

I mean send one device "here and there" to some fanboys would not help them anyway.

Because regular fanboys is often to much just "fanboys" and in the end only a few people listen to them.

Well, nothing prevents them installing Amazon's app store If Yandex is not OK (that what Jolla's CEO said in article at Ilta-Sanomat).

I'm not complaining. Just wondering that the android phone owners automatically think that Jolla couldn't be pleasant to use because it would be slow and laggy. It'll definetly be a huge upgrade comparing to N900. And yet the N900 handles quite well with only 256mb ram and 600mhz cpu. Even better than some better specced android phones. As long as the OS is built well there is no need for quad-cores and 8gb ram. I'm looking forward to finally get my own device.

Pre-ordered myself at noon on the 20.5. at €100, left unimpressed by the plain hardware when finally (!!) published.

Might rather wait for that updated phone jumping on a cheap android until then in case my n900 dies.

Another thing I'd like to see is a straight line between private and work profiles like blackberry did for security reason. Especially since android apps (sandbox?) are on the phone.

<rant>
Jolla, honestly the whole PR is an utter disappointment since the first launch! Get yourself a single good PR Person on board, Marc Dillon is/was an authentic guy for the product. Just give it a structure and something worth to report about.
That dropping breadcrumbs from time to time didn't made it any more exciting to me but simply unprofessional and questioning the whole product.

The whole "we are unlike" is rather premature attempt to catch peoples/press attention. Additionally I can't see the big thing about TOH, seems like a I want to be so hip gimmick than anything of use [please prove me wrong].
