@ggabriel
For the contacts at least you can export them in .vcf file on N9 and import to Jolla. I don't believe such a basic functionality like .vcf import will be missing in Sailfish, be it even BETA :)
For pictures - hope simple scp will do it.

Yeah, I'm not too worried about myself. I was wondering more about the normal Joe who doesn't have much knowledge about how things work. Nokia used to make phone migration extemely easy.

Re: #JollaLoveDay - 20th May - device announcement

I think jolla will hande data migration if we give them time. Data migration and restore. Give them a few iterations. When that is in place we could really start to recommend the jPhones to joe.

Maybe they will have a cellebrite device which can transfer contacts between almost any phones. Maybe they are one of the few devices that aren't accessible to it.

They have no time, Dave. I want to migrate all my info from N9 from the very first time i get my hands on the new phone, not months or half-a-year after. Isn't it obvious? It's a day one feature.

Then jPhone is not for you and you should look at iPhone ;)

They have a week.

Re: #JollaLoveDay - 20th May - device announcement

Well, actually, migrating from iPhone to Android nowadays is a pain for the normal user. They just lose all their friends and have to make new friends (in a manner of speaking).

So, it isn't crazy for Jolla to be a challenge as well. It would be ideal if some cloud service and application combination could do the job. However, this involves giving all your information to somebody else. This may be ok for most people though, and the ones who a) don't know how things work b) respect their privacy will have to suffer a little bit.

Will it be possible to turn the android layer off? Like on/off with command or setting.

You can uninstall the layer, or just use "systemctl stop [androidlayerservicename]"

I'm using SyncML on N9 now, using the N9's native but hidden Buteo middleware, which is part of MeeGo. I expect Jolla to support SyncML as well, and as well using Buteo since it's part of Mer.

So I hope that for SyncML users (ownCloud, Memotoo, etc) "migration" is little more than entering the correct credentials and poof, all calendar, contacts, notes are on Jolla. SyncML can do more, like syncing SMS, bookmarks, files, but the N9 never went that far :(

for the last 12 years, i synced all devices from different companies by just plugging them to my computer via USB / Bluetooth and sync with Outlook / Lotus Notes ... but this is not wanted by phone companies anymore. everything must be in the "cloud" meh

I begin to think there will be no "exclusive OH", nobody from Jolla is mentioning it, the phones will start shipping in a week and still there is no any clue whatsoever about this mysterious "exclusive OH".

DNA made a press release about Jolla phones today (in finnish)

https://www.dna.fi/DNAOy/Media/Tiedo...20kiville.aspx

Apart from usual maketing BS:

-DNA has taken part in Jolla development; user experience and industrial design.

-DNA has exclusive rights to sell in Finland during 'launch phase', whatever that means. No exact time frame for when other retailers can sell it. DNA expects phones to arrive in its shops for regular sales (non-preorder sales) during early-December.

-DNA handles only delivery for pre-orders from Finland. Jolla ships international orders.

-Clear majority of pre-orders made by men. In Finland 1/3rd of pre-orders from Helsinki metropolitan area (about 1/4th of finns live in the area).

Dont worry .vcf file import works from developer mode (there is commandline utility in the firmware image).

And afaik you should also be able to copy contacts over bluetooth.

... exactly the same stuff we have already heard when the launch date was announced. What was the idea of this press release?

Also now DNA is saying early December, when Jolla yesterday said 27. So what is it?

There is date difference in non-preorder sales vs pre-order sales, if you read the text right :)
