Also, wasn't the idea that third parties could develop other halves? Using more traditional stuff like I2S, CAN or - hey why not - simply USB would be easier, faster and more efficient. For USB there are many devices already available, and have already support in the kernel. An other half with fingerprint scanner would be a no-brainer.

I did not say the meaning of other half was powering stuff. Thats something that people here expect :)

All I am saying will still don't know and just look at the pictures we have seen so far the is nothing that points to a any physical connections. To me the other half is just a bit of plastic with an NFCTag on it. Now thats what we have seen so far, nothing else. Just rumors here and there.

I really hope I am wrong here, but I personally don't want hope for something that in the ends is just a hype.

But I agree it is a big mistake by Jolla if they don't leave up to its hopes. Because if its only is as I expect they should had clarified already to kill all the rumors.

Btw. about physical connection and protocol I2C is not a alternative here. I2C is slow and (max 400Khz) and not suitable same for CAN who is used only to send very little data(packet size 8byte).

So only valid option is USB or possible SPI as I see it. Or BT4 if no physical..

Nice effort, but there's been a thread for posts like this for ages now.
In fact, I think you may have posted there before?

This is the Jolla T-shirt shipment thread... :)

True.
But I didn't post before with ideas for TheOtherHalf accessories.

I sort of re-posted some stuff from the other post, only to bring it all together. People generally want info in front of them, instead of hunting through several links/posts.

And trully, its a great concept.
But like many great concepts, execution can make or break it.

edit:
...whoops this is the wrong thread, sorry : (

True you didn't there, & I can see why you inadvertently posted here, as this has become the de-facto general chit-chat thread, not just the T-shirt shipment one.
It makes sense though to keep it all consolidated, & that's the point of a thread focused around a certain subject matter. :)
Also, it's clear by now that most of the hw is going to pretty mediocre, the only saving grace may be that the Other Half offers true hw augmentation (but that's far from certain).
If that doesn't materialise, then the platform will have to differentiate (mostly) via the entire sw_story/user_experience...

Lol, if the other half was a t-shirt. None of us (the guys who made the 40 euro order) would receive the t-shirt then :D

Maybe Jolla ships you the device without a backplate or battery.
The box without the lid.
The charger without the cable.
Half of the user manual (still better than IKEA, bazinga!)

Instead there's a nerdy guy wearing a Jolla shirt that reads:
I am the Other Half.

The other half is an oversized hamster wheel that the owner needs to run on to charge the device.

T-Shirts outside Finland seem to ship now. At least mine does :)
