(Announce) ledpulse (Sound Reactive Leds for your n900)

This app can make your n900's led being sound reactive :D
You can choose the colour of the notification led and which keyboard leds to blink like the sound! You can choose from 3 sources(Monitor/Bluetooth/Microphone)!

Here is a small video of it in action!

Credits goes to nicolai and you can find the program on extras-devel
(http://maemo.org/packages/view/ledpulse/)

Not personally. You need someone to hack VU Meter and add led output. It does what you want but just in graph form.

Re: Nokia N900 Sound Reactive Led

Afaik the led on the N900 is controlled by MCE, which settings can only be applyd by restarting MCE itself. This takes some time and can only be done a couple of times every 5 minutes or so. Apart from that, a faulty mce.ini file, where these setting are, can seriously mess up your N900 usability ( read; brick your device)
So in my opinion you'll have to create a new system or program to control the led, and i doubt that is possible... :(

Thanks for your time! Is there any chance to make it work with the keyboard leds as well?? Do I need to change this:
led_r = open('/sys/class/leds/lp5523:r/brightness','w',1)
to this:
led_r = open('/sys/class/leds/lp5523:kb1/brightness','w',1)
for example?

One more think I want to say is that it captures the sound of the mic as well... What I mean is that when I talk for example it lights up? Is there any way to remove that?
Why do you think that it is a battery killer? How much energy could a led need? Thanks again :D

Erm, isn't that what you wanted from very beginning?

As for battery, it's not only about LED's - it's about constantly probing sound input, waking CPU, etc. You're, probably, going to have ~10x worse standby battery life, if using it all the time.

Re: Nokia N900 Sound Reactive Led

Well I wanted to caprtures only the sound of the music that was playing from the player, not the sounds from the mic...
For the battery I understant what you are saying but I won't probably use it all the time :)

Re: Nokia N900 Sound Reactive Led

Replace
Code:

pulsesrc
with
Code:

pulsesrc device=sink.hw0.monitor
to capture speaker output.

Also see my own Ironcope (source) to show how a similar thing can be done in C. If done properly (e.g. recognizing when there is nothing to capture) it does not kill battery that much.

bill_klpd 2013-06-29 15:15

Re: Nokia N900 Sound Reactive Led

Thanks javispedro it really works!
Is there any app that turn off completely the keyboard backlight? I can't find anything...
One more thing... how can I add more led to work the same way at the same time? I am trying to find it out but I can't :P

Ok I changed it :)
I want to edit the file a little more but I don't understant what 'w',1 means on this line:
led_s = open('/sys/class/leds/lp5523:kb1/brightness','w',1)

Re: (Announce) Sound Reactive Led

I am trying to make a small GUI for this with qt and I would love to know if I can use multiple python files on this app to do the work but I don't know if I can and how to call the python script on a pushbutton for example....

nicolai 2013-07-01 12:30

Re: (Announce) Sound Reactive Led

If you can wait some days, I 'll make a little desktop applet for this.
I like the idea.

I have made a small ui file with qt but my problem is that I can not make the buttons to do what the python script that you wrote does. I am not a programmer (actually I am 17 years old and I don't have the knowledge...) but I am thinking of making a gui with 9 tick buttons (3 for rgb led,6 for keyboard leds) and connect them with 9 python scripts just like the first one that you wrote... I also like the desktop applet that you said ;)

This is what I have with the .ui file

ledvolume.gz is damaged :\

Does anyone can reupload?

I reupload it... Check it now... :)

Re: (Announce) Sound Reactive Led

Finally I got autobuilder to import my package into extras-devel.
ledpulse (http://maemo.org/packages/view/ledpulse/).

It does not always work correct if standard notification lights
are enabled. And from time to time one of the three led colours
does not light up as bright as they should (rebooting will help).

Re: (Announce) Sound Reactive Led

I will try it right now! Thanks nicolai one more time :D! I think that this thread should me moved to applications...

Re: (Announce) Sound Reactive Led

nicolai can you do some more things about this nice software? Is there any way to make the led less sound reactive(because when you have the music on 100%, you can,t really understant if it blinks or not...) Thanks again :D

I figured out that the desktop icon functions as an on/off toggle.

Sure.. :P
I've even checked the widget settings.
But still a no-go

Edit: ok, I was outside when I tried it. Seems like it's giving a 'very low' light (keyboard leds doesn't light up though) which wasn't visable in the sunlight.
But the led is like 80% off.. even if the music is playing

Edit2:
ugh... I just notice that there is a "Source" button, which was pointed to the microphone...

Problem solved! It works :)

Edit3:
Can we add some "Smooth" option so that the led will change from colors automatically instead of always 1 color?
