Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

I didn't really follow this thread, but so far I noticed a recipie for flashing the whole OS right away on an N9: http://www.jollausers.com/2013/12/sa...mini-tutorial/

Would any method work on N950 as well (the above, or updating from Nemo or etc.) and how functional will be the result? I don't want to ruin it, since I use it as an everyday device.

I don't recommend you to do it yet, if you say that your n9 is your main phone

flotron: N950 actually, but that probably would be the same. I'd wait then, thanks.

You can use ubiboot for dual booting Sailfish, like me. Though I didn't have any sensitive data on my N950 when I went that road. :)

Im trying to install sailfish on n9 and got stuck after flashing moslo kernel. It says "Re-Partitioning failed! No partition created"
what could the reason behind it be?

Did you resolved?

Its Alpha software. not daily use since the browser is really crap on N9 as one example. But good for testing own done sf apps

Issues I seen:

* I cannot set the date/time for some wierd reason.
* Wifi also has issues and disconnect randomly it seems.
* swipe is kinda broken horizontal/vertical is swapped means apps closes when swipe left instead of top)
* camera not working (probadly lower lever driver is broken or not even installed on n9?

But I for me it works better than expected on N9. I even got it to send a note over BT to my laptop. Email also works. atleast my own emailserver. not tested gmail yet.

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

I really don't know how this would help.
I didnt require a linux system all that much . Moslo didn't work on windows or linux for me. So I used a partitioning tool. Gparted partitioning tool to be exact( you can use any that suits you, just make sure its a linux partition typei.e ext4) . I created a 2gb ext4 partition and named it Alt_OS(don't really think the naming is necessary. Am just helping moslo do its job).

Then I used Ext2fsd to check it on a windows system. Would have extracted it with windows too but tried that with linux and it didn't work too even on the command line.
So the best would be to do it on the n9.
As root.
Do the following.
#mkdir /mnt/sailfish (to make directory for the partition )
#mount /dev/mmcblk0p4 /mnt/sailfish. ( To mount the partition on sailfish)
#tar -xjf sailfish_n9_0.0.2.tar.bz2 -C /mnt/sailfish (to extract to sailfish folder)
I did it without the numeric owner line.
I hope someone can do something more comprehensive.
I have not tried the new sailfish image so don't know hw that works it should be the same thing.

Please correct me any where am wrong.

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

Just installed the newest version to my N9 and from 30 minutes of playing around I can say that it's pretty smooth indeed. I'm probably gonna use this now as my main OS for my N9. Sure the experience is far from perfect and I have the same issues as mikecomputing, but I didn't use my N9 for much else than phone, sms, mail and occasional web browsing which seems to work just fine. I hope we get the store working at somepoint :D

The browser seemed fine by me. I just tried facebook touch but that seemed to work as smooth as you would expect from the N9. UX is smooth, some gliching here and there but it's not a big deal.

I just want to commend everyone's work here. I'm really impressed with how much progress you folks have made in so short a time. I look forward to trying it on my n9 for fun when things gets a little further down the road. Keep it up!

You have some configuration mixup.
Can you post your ubiboot.log, it is created on the same directory you have your ubiboot.conf.

So you see no ubiboot menu's at all?
That means the flashing of your ubiboot kernel failed for some reason.

i did installation via windows. so do i need to go to step 6 ? that is for ubiboot ? after step 5 i directly went to step W.

Guys Hi

New kickstart art https://github.com/martinbrook/jolla-n950-kickstart

Has limited nemo:mw repo for pulseaudio packages which enables audio now and jolla-common-configuration is installed in this image

Contributions welcome

Hi Guys,

SourenAraya, thanks for your latest backup image, it gets us further towards the goal.

I'm working on a further kickstart

There are two issues I'm working on

1. n950 specific packages in nemo:me repo

The issue is that some on the n950 hardware adaptation packages are part of the nemo:mw repo. If you add this into the mic kickstart it conflicts with some parts the jolla version of nemo:mw. What I'm working on is providing a repo which only includes the n950 specific parts of the nemo:mw repo (eg pulse audio config)

2. jolla.common.configs

If this package is included in the kickstart then the /home/nemo directory gets wrong permissions which caused a loop in jolla welcome / language picking

Getting the n950 parts of nemo:mw in the kickstart should sort things like audio/proximity sensor and make the production of a sailfish-n950.tar.bz2 automatic

Again thanks for all the contributions to this effort and again any contributions welcome to

I have a problem with the flashing part (resetting harmattan)

When I flash, i type in exactly as said, and it tells me downgrade disallowed. Are there PR1.3 images or am i just not able to flash.

Also, do i need to flash the stock harmattan again? or can I just go to open kernel and continue?

TMavica 2013-12-10 00:45

As stated already there is only one way then:

boot harmattan and copy tar.bz2 file to /home/user/MyStuff/Documents (the only partition Winblows will see X:/Documents or something...)

When uploaded: open terminal on your n9:

and write:

Code:

devel-su
mount /dev/mmcblkp4 /mnt
cd /mnt
tar --numeric-owner -xjvf /home/user/MyStuff/Documents/sailfish-filename.tar.bz2
cd ..
umount /mnt
sync  # wait some seconds...
exit

Now reboot device

Notice this is only valid if you have partitioned the device and using uubiboot as described before... I take no responsibility if you break the phone

thanks for explaining friend, I manage to make it work but the ubiboot somehow couldn't boot harmattan, I'm sure I followed steps to install it but it wouldn't work.. Well, not really an urgent task for me, Nokia N9 is just my backup phone now :D

tested on main functions which are working
bluetooth: able to send and receive
WLAN: random disconnections

bugs/issues
*the volume playback seems very low, its already maxed out but it feels like Harmattan 50% volume..
*volume button not functioning
*battery always shows at 87%, plugging in charger will change it to 99% and never changed, I'm not sure am I charging through lol

proximity and permissions hacks exist, so no need for
Code:

sudo chown -R 100000:100000 /mnt/home/nemo
voicecalls vorks only via speakerphone, for now.
I also send to @vgrade pull request on github.

Could we have people stuck with partitioning, windows and the like post in a different thread ? Ubiboot for instance...

And for the record, I have a N9 simlocked on operator and windows computers only; by reading multiple thread I managed to Flash a generic image and install ubiboot, Nemo, Nitdroid, etc.
So stop wining for a bit please...

Sorry for "wining" but if you know the problem, instead of complaining why don't you share your knowledge so all the people here can stop "wining"

Can you share how you installed ubi on your simlocked n9?

Okay, from the log I can see that the last 2 times you loaded Harmattan the kernel was found correctly. (before that I guess you had a name or location problem since ubiboot did not find the zImage_2.6.32.54-openmode_l2fix kernel.

Now, as kernel is found but refuses to boot there are several possibilities.
Most often this is caused by problem in your preinit, and rare occasions it is mixup in the kernel modules.

Did you install the preinits.tar which contains preinit files for Harmattan, Nitdroid and Firefox?
If you did, can you check if the preinit files in /sbin/ have execute permissions?
If you did not, you should install the preinits.
If you do not have Nitdroid or FirefoxOS on your device, there's a quick hack you can do; Just copy the existing Harmattan preinit to a new name;
cp /sbin/preinit /sbin/preinit_harmattan

(of course you can also change the preinit name in your ubiboot.conf but for consistency's sake I'd like to use the postfixed preinits with ubiboot...)
