Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

The Nexus 4/5 port looks interesting for me because i can't flash my simlocked n9 and can't buy a Jolla because i'm not living in Europe.

Because i'm not an Android guy i don't know how is the ROM flashing scene there. I can only see that the guy in the video make it looks very easy with "ClockworkMod".

Anyone here trying this?

Hmm, where I can find flasher for n9? I took it from http://skeiron.org/tablets-dev/maemo-dev-env-downloads/, file maemo_flasher-3.5_2.5.2.2.tar.gz.

Thanks for the info about volume buttons.

I was able to get 3G working by setting it up manually.

Hey guys,
if there are no pull requests on kernel update project on GitHub, does that mean that there's no progress on it? And the future update is gonna kill Sailfish on N9?

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

Hy there,

like i received my unblocked 64Gb N9 recently y put on the first Openmode, UbiBoot and Sailfish on the device.
Like is completely new, i let the battery on OS Harmattan going down.
But after that the Dvice dont booted up. Its going on UbiBoot an i can boot Sailfish. But on boot Harmattan the screen keeps black and i have 10 seconds put the power off (hardreset) also is not charging when its off.
The only way to charge is boot sailfish. But in Sailfish i read that BME is not working vorrectly.
Someone can tell me whats happend?

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

in sailfish builds > r4 bme working 100% correctly :)

1. did you successfully booted to harmattan after installing sailfish?
2. did you performed any actions with harmattan partition under sailfish?
3. what method you using for installing sailfish? (windows/linux), did you used moslo once again after installing sailfish?

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

Hy Corderus,

i made strictly like in wiki documented.
I'am using Debian Wheezy for all the installing. I had sailfish only a day installed.
The only think i forgot was changing the sources.list on Sailfish. Simple forgotten.
And i tryed to install some stuff from Jolla Store.

Software i used was:

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

Where have access to the wiki-page.

Can you add under Problem and Solutions this one?

N9 with now Battery will no charge in Harmattan

You can try using flasher to charge it.
Just run it with -f -F image.bin -c and it will start and charge until 11%. After that it will start flashing the phone, so just hit ctrl + c when it reaches 10% and then run flasher -R to reboot.

After that the phone should charge normally when in Harmattan.

I must say I believe Jolla not supporting/providing a slick Sailfish experience on Nokia N9 is a poor strategic mistake.
If it would have been so, by this time their would be more buzz, video and news about Jolla all over the place.
I don't know how they plan to run their business, but probably not by selling hardware.

@vgrade: thanks !

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

personally,,,i think its al right for them not to support sailfish on the N9,,,because,,for starters, they are a small co. and don't have the resources to support 2 devices,,whereby one device is not even there own, secondly,,they have investors who want to see there own device up and running in a stable way...so that they can get funding to hire n complete there vision...thirdly,by not supporting sailfish on the N9,they encourage the community to be proactive,,,this leads to new ideas,,,where even them thy benefit.....

coderus 2014-01-30 14:05

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

Sailfish working on any platform. Jolla not supporting any specific one. Community should make fixies for nemomobile.

KTy 2014-01-30 16:13

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

They launched Jolla. They needed a flagship (the Jolla), but they would have get huge benefit by supporting specifically a port to the N9. From a marketing view point they would have increased their visibility.

coderus 2014-01-30 17:06

its device manufacturer company at first, not just os/software. company making hw adaptations for other companies have bad marketing. nobody will buy own devices. you asking for unthinkable :)

more buzz by port to N9? U have to be kidding? No one except geeks knows about N9 the same people now run Jolla phones. If they want more Buzz they they need big manufactor intrested that means show it on a old samsung device, htc or similar. and make a deal ith those big companys.

But anyway my Jolla is broken so no I REALLY want it to work on n9 but dont expect this from Jolla its upto us.

Really hoping the N9 port does not die. The Jolla is very neat but it does not support US carriers.

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

sorry guys,

i'am back with Salifish on my N9 64Gb.
But it seems it doesnt work correct.
The only configurated think is my Jolla Account.
Didnt install anything. To look for install Warehouse for Sailfish. It tell me

You need to enable application installation from uncertified sources:
Select Phone Settings and Applications > Installations, and activate Allow installations from non-Store sources.

But i didnt have it in Sailfish. In Sailfish Settings-Apps i only have my App-Menu and here only Phone, Messages, Browser, Camera, Contacts and Email. All other things i didnt can access and also i didnt have a menu on the upper edge

Be my Guy for the first steps in Sailfish ;)

Going with ssh and zypper refresh i'am going this

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

I'm a little confused. This thread is "Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)". Why are we then talking about Sailfish versions 1.0.3.x which can't be ported to N9 now .. or are we just waiting to someone handle it (coderus don't have time for it) and/or is it possible at all?

mikecomputing 2014-02-01 18:13

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

hmm flashed latest vgrade-jolla-1.0.3.7 but seems there was regression in case of landscape/portrait.

Seems like UI thinks screen is in landscape when in portrait.

on startup everything is wrong direction. eg "landscape mode in portrait"?

Actually, it's quite possible (though certainly 1.0.3.x is pretty broken). The versions with the updated systemd (i.e., the ones which need kernel work to work on the N9/50) aren't actually released yet.

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

I think cameraplus should be ported from harmattan => sailfishos for N9.

Seems that would be easier than try port jolla-camerea app?

also harmattan cameraplus is better than sailfish one even if they UI is very similar I like cameraplus better :)

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

Finally we compiled the kernel for N9, unfortunately I dont have N9 to test as the sailfish adaptation destroyed my beloved N9 and there was not coming out any sound after all from my beloved N9, luckily its still under warranty, I need an expert who knows about how to flash the new kernel into the device, kindly message me, please consider we need and experts, so newbies dont bother
