How would one help with getting the latest Sailfish working? I'd like to help out, but I know next to nothing about kernel hacking.

Dear friends, I need contributors to help me for compiling the new kernel 3.5.3 for N9

I have some success and some failure, please let me know if you have time to spend in this great project

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

Hey Max83, I am finishing my exams on thursday and after that I will have some free time to test the new kernel. The only real problem is that I don't have knowledge about kernel but if you need someone to test and report I will be available.
Hope we can work out something!

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

I can make one of my n9's and N950 available for testing :)

What format will it be in? I may be a little slow as ive other projects, and trying to build ubuntu-phone too! (not for n9)

You can give me some work to accelerate the porting task.
My mail is china.cczy@gmail.com, also is my gtalk account, we can communicate with this if you hasn't better suggestion.

Kernel 3.5.3 by MAX

Hi, Max83,
which gcc version you are used? and cau you support a brief description about how to setup the compile bed?

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

Hi,,
I compiled the kernel 3.5.3-MAX with gcc-linaro-arm-linux-gnueabihf-4.8-2013.10_linux.tar.xz. But it seems failed.

detail process:

#cp arm/arm/configs/arm581_defconfig .config
#make ARCH=arm CROSS_COMPILE=arm-linux-gnueabihf- zImage

then, the terminal promote many configuration need me to check.
So, i think there must have some problem of this compile process.

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

hahha, my friend, the point is there are some errors in the include and .c files if you are developer you might be able to fix them
I solved quiet a lot of them then I uploaded my works for you guys to contribute

You can get a used N9 for about $150, which is cheaper than getting the entire phone's screen replaced.

Why discuss this broken N9 here? We are talking about Sailfish to N9 included a kernel to make it possible!

Hi Max83, I'd like to know if your kernel source is created upon latest sources from N9 kernel adaptation project? Because it seems that people are already able to compile the kernel for N9 but it needs more work to work properly (Hurrian has booted the kernel on N9... to some extent!).

max83 2014-05-14 05:04

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

hedayat the kernel I uploaded is totally different from the kernel adaption because in kernel adaption most of closed source codes were removed
in my provided kernel all of them remain intact just need some modifications to compile, so far I solved many of them and uploaded my works for public contributions, but lately am busy at 2 jobs and dont have too much spare time to finish it, so if you are developer you know how to deal with compilation errors, please share your solutions with us here

thanks.

Hi, firend, which version of sailfish you are installed on your phone?
does your phone is N9?
Now, I can downloaded sailfish porting for N9 is 1.0.2.5.
It seems the version from your picture is newer than 1.0.2.5

No, this will not help you (will not reclaim space from sailfish partition to MyDocs).

What you may also (manually) do is use sfdisk. But according to your first sentence in your post

I doubt you know that tool?

Show us
Code:

/sbin/sfdisk -l /dev/mmcblk0

Windows 7 onwards, Telnet client is not installed as a default.

You can install it from control panel - windows components - or something like that. I stopped using Windows after XP (like many), so I am not sure where the control panels are and named anymore.

Re: Porting Sailfish to N9 (or other)

What's the status on the new kernel? I know that it is somewhat usable because the creator asked people to beta test it.

Also. on the images.formeego.org repo there's a 1.0.3.7 image. What is that?
