Jolla's Second Pre-Book Campaign in Autumn
 

Hello, I'm a new user to this forum (have just recently found this site) and I have found this site interesting.

But skipping to the point, I've been interested about a Jolla device for a while now, and I've heard their next (big) announcement will be due in autumn. What I've collected is that they are currently working on a lot of things, including a new Sailfshish/Jolla promo video. What I think is that when the second batch pre-booking of Jolla phones is announced, a lot more is announced too. I think they will definitely announce the complete specs of the phone. Other things... not sure, but they might shed some light about their app-store solution and apps coming bundled with the phone. And they will probably release the new promo video they've mentioned they're working on.

So what do you think they will announce or not announce? Jolla has been very careful with announcements since Jussi Hurmola's resignation (He announced that their first phone will be released in 2012; that might have something to do with his later resignation and their current carefulness with announcements). To me it seems they do a few BIG announcements rather than several small ones.

When I saw the headline I thought Jolla had launched some new cool campaign. I'm so disappointed.

Sounds good to me. Anything is better than nothing. Hope the price is around 299 Euro. 399 euro doesn't fit the device.

Hardware specs should be finalised now that they are ordering batches from China. Pretty sure that they'll annouce full hardware specs. Propably bit more about OS as well.

App-store etc. I would not expect until winter, closer to phone hitting the stores.

I hope they'll shed some light about Other Halves too. If they've decided to produce the keyboard halves, it would be time to announce it too.

To reach the US probably they'd need to rework the RF/modem section of their device and certainly going through an expensive FCC certification round.

A possibility for those outside the EU... shipito has a warehouse in Austria. They are currently forwarding via Austrian Post and FedEx.

Given that the device will be compatible with your service provider(s) and if distribution is limited to the EU... it should be as simple as changing your mailing address on the pre-order.

Why? If they support needed LTE frequencies, no need to rework anything. Most modern modems support many frequencies at once. FCC can be a mess though.

Why?
I've got specs enough: It's a Genuine Jolla device running SailfishOS. I even know the price tag for it :)
What else do you need to know really? How will it make you happier to know something else?

Because itmatters to me.

I want to know the SoC.
I want to know amoled or led.
I want to see the final form factor.
Etc

These are not inconsequential questions my friend.

Jolla has already announced that all major apps will be found on their device, and the full hardware info will probably released soon enough considering their latest tweets.

I think its important that jolla are doing something special with this campaign, not just a 399 Euro campaign on there webpage!

note that Microsoft and Jolla is in the same ballpark in terms of sponsorship of the event. I mean how much money has Microsoft vs Jolla :D

I hope Jolla get most attention on that event they def deserves it

Where is this new campaign? I want to buy jolla phone for 299 Euro, not that old price 399 Euro.

Would be cool if they could present some new info about the phone as well. I think many customer waiting for some real info before even consider buying a jolla.

My guess so far: 12067 Pre-ordered devices. 81% will go through with purchase at release.

Jolla should add an extrea cheap phone for, lets say 150 Euro. But you have to fly all the way to finland and pick up the device at the release party.

That'd be a great move for Jolla indeed! Offer a second pre-order phone with 100€ off. The first wave of people who preordered and don't have a phone yet will be ecstatic about it!

Just do what you did with the N9... wait and get it cheaper.

The guys in the first batch me included pay more to get the device on release day. That's why this second preorder can run a price stage of some kind.

But yeah its likely that they are going for a flat price 399. It the easiest choice.

On a more serious note, the fact that this is only for Finland raises a couple of questions:
- Why do they want to go for a well known market in the second campaign?
- Does this action imply that they bit too much in the first campaign and as a result some people will be disappointed (i.e., will get their money back)? Perhaps there are some countries where you just can't deliver?
- Or is it just quicker to do it in Finland at this stage and that's why they are doing it?
- Why won't they include EU? You can always buy from within the EU, get it shipped [at a higher cost] and be done with it.

Maybe 90% of preolders last time were from Finland and they think that theres no people who want buy phone from small company elsewhere.

It's a common sense move for me. In the wake of the Microsoft deal, a lot of Finns will be feeling betrayed, so a play on that sentiment could deliver a good quick take-up of the second pre-order.

If they achieve that, then operators in other countries may take notice and offer deals. A bit like the Socialism in One Country theory, strong at home, then overseas.

I know Jolla has an agreement with the finnish TELCO operator DNA and this 2nd preorder might a set deal between them.

Propably the event will be announced with DNA, and orders taken via DNA, hence finland only.
