I still have that voucher of 100 Euro , virtually forgotten about it due to lack of funds - now thinking about investing in the project if the window is still open that is..

Anybody that can recommend an insurance company that when need arises will insure the Neo900 for its TRUE value? :p

Nah. Not even the Munich Re has enough cash for that :)

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900

short update:
PP problem has a silverlining on the horizon that we could solve it (see http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=1492830) - it's a pity how this whole silly thing has delayed the project and eaten a lot of manpower and quite some funds for nothing.
We finalized the Dual-SIM whitepaper - alas Werner cought a cold so I will publish it without the last few typo corrections for now, stay tuned.
Nikolaus is not available for now and busy til at least February, so I ponder to do the last tiny schematics updates and the complete layout of proto_v2 myself as soon as PP got fixed (or even before).
We aquired an old friend of mine, Albert, for the whole tax/accounting stuff. Some great achievement since this domain urgently needed somebody to take good and competent care about.

numbers:
+1EUR Funding top up -8969
Neo900 PARTIAL FUNDING towards Neo900 complete device -210
NeoN PARTIAL FUNDING towards NeoN bare board -109
We're still a ~180 preorders short of our goal, I hope to change this with showing off a working proto_v2 running maemo on it.

cheers

Yes, this is exactly what is needed to convince others like me to preorder. What is the current price for preorder and how final it is. Best quess is sufficient for me.

dual-SIM design - gamma draft

[edit] I noticed the purpose was not as clear as it should be, so here's the explanation ([edit2] and a better intro in the pdf):
Neo900 (tentatively) comes with two SIM trays, one as usual (from N900) under battery, and an externally accessible one embedded into the spacer frame which is a slot-in type
  • For modem you can swap cards in tray A and tray B electronically, but that's no Dual SIM Dual Standby where both SIM are active concurrently.
The PLS8-rev3 modem (not released by Gemalto yet) allegedly comes with 2 SIM interfaces so the modem might do DSDS.
  • For NFC the NFC-MCU has two SWP interfaces and it's up to user loading a firmware to the MCU to make use of both of them.
  • For the CPU: it can use both SIM trays as smartcard reader slots, but the modem can't have access to either of the SIMs during times where CPU does smartcard reader

[edit2] updated: draft->release version

What does that mean? Mr neo can handle two sims at the same time by default?

I have the money but will the neo be shipped? So I got burned with jolla...should I get burned again :D

We are coming all from a burning platform (Nokia), so we are used to be burned.

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900

It's all different situations.

Nokia self-immolated (everyone keeps saying it's a burning / burnt platform...but I ain't toasty-o's...maemo 4 to 5 still workin' fine for me) but that is subjective.
I think they simply lit their corp. selves up quite well with the help of the shareholders and microsoft involvement.
The maemo platforms are running fine though.

Jolla did a fine job of lighting off fireworks in their underwear...
the lack of transparency..
the lack of communication skills with their community of invested jolla owners..
both of those issues allowed alot of theorizing to occur (which is a given in such circumstances) and when any hint of new info (whether factual or fiction) came from sources other than official Jolla reps. (ie- the chinese supply of Jolla tablets just recently or the looooonggg communications silence during and after the "restructuring" started) that does / did not help in belief in Jolla.

With the Neo900.
The team has been transparent.
The dialogue and communication has been open.
When some good news happens they tell us.
When some bad developments happen they tell us.
When someone has a question... they answer it timely.
They've been stellar in my estimation.
Other than (the standard naturally given) hurdles project and finances -wise (ie-paypal) (which are realistically to be expected with any project...)
I do not believe there is even a whiff of smoke anywhere near the neo900...let alone fire...
So yeah...I wouldn't put the neo900 in that burning category just yet.

@endsormeans
It was not my intention put the neo900 on the same level to the other mentioned companies. I was only joking with the word 'burning' and of course admire the effort to give a new life to the n900.

That was my reading of your post too, hence my thanks. OTOH, I also liked endso's comprehensive summary hence my thanks to his post too. I do not see the two posts in opposition ;)
