looks ok specs wise, have added it to the list of possible phones to use for that project.
so far for me the cosmo is the phone im getting next time, also really like it spec wise, they really loaded it up (CPU, RAM etc)
Since they put a screen on the top/outside i can live with the "laptop" form factor, still like the Slide more

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900

Drivers...
It is what held back the Linux Zaurus, the N900, and it is also what wrecks a libre situation with android hardware.
If we could get useful drivers for the linux kernel we would have a stopgap for an android device until the kernel the driver was built for gets old and moldy.
With FOSS drivers we can port them to just about anything, but android goes one worse and doesn't even use a fully compatible kernel and it seems that convergence of the android and mainline Linux kernel has been put way off or abandoned.
No drivers and no kernel mean half or at least several components of the hardware in your phone/tablet in most devices is unsupported or you can't even boot a Linux which uses normal sound and video.

Work to bring the upstream mainline kernel & kernels that Android devices use to be more in line is ongoing:
https://lwn.net/Articles/771974/

It's just not an easy task, as you are basically trying to hit a moving target and there are other aspects, such as the device manufacturer that is first to market with a device (even though it's kernel is hacked to hell) might have an economic advantage.

But on the other hand, the divergence from the mainline just got so bad that something basically needs to be done and progress is certainly being done and the delta is shrinking.

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900

huawei will never ever use opensource, when Chiense NSA will hook anything device devoulition is a problem keybards mostly gone now thin device edge to edge display and sandboxing is the trend... with a stupidproof touchscreen with a single on off button , hyper device safe virtualization all nom-geek people can be happy ... There are cursh and clash and mash etc games are there...

Actually things can and will change soon as ARM has now monopoly on the architecture, but intel made passive cooling low wat cpus even in i3-i7 series so techology will be ready to let intel jump in with small devices and obiviusly still whole desktop environment and servers use intel / intel like cpus so that might change the game... The thing intel need to sort out to implement arm like all in one boards and integrated systems i am not sure if it possible but power and heat is solved in intel architect now the only thing remain the size...

and again please close this thread neo900 is dead

I don't understand why the thread should be closed. The project may be dead, but discussions on its goals, milestones and outcomes are still relevant, and so are those on what to do with the sourced N900s.

To not to beat a dead horse...
Maybe it's better to rename the title? "Neo900 - failed successor of N900"?

First.
There is no way it is viable to reimburse folks who invested ...with a n900...
The shipping costs alone ...and the logistics are too much for the value of the devices
So what other alt. Iis there?
Take them all and build a giant startup-killing n900 kaiju?
Hmmm...would it be big enough to be called a Kaiju?

Anyway...
As far as the book rights...mini series...
Made for tv spin off...
The Marvel Superhero film franchise ...
And the cartoons and miniatures...
I personally don't want to hear about how the neo went through this or that or the other thing...
We should have been hearing about such things at the time they were taking place.
It is called "transparency" and "an obligation to inform those who invested"
I have as much desire to hear about this now...
As discussing lancing of boils...
Or watching a documentary on the clubbing odf seal pups....from their perspective....

I have choice expletives for this new load of rubbish to continue.

I understand that the logistics won't be easy if many pre-orderers ask for it, but if I have to choose between nothing and a brand new N900 as long as I cover the shipping cost, I'd take the brand new N900, even if in the end, that implies sinking more money than I already did.

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900

Good for you.
If you can use an extra n900 ...great...
And for those who invested ...if it meets with their idea of "fair" ...after dumping their money into a proj3ct....for a device they should have gotten years ago...to end up with a n900...at their cost of shipping...and they think that fine...
Sure....go ahead...empty your wallets some more ...

Me...
I have 5.
I need a 6th like I need a 3rd nipple....
And about as useful as the other 2.
(Which ...on a guy ...aren't very useful ...)
As well...personally...
I wouldn't pitch a wooden nickel more at the neo-cadaver.
Nor spend an iota of energy more on it than the years already spent...
Except to continue to call for the entirety of the neo subforums and their containing threads and posts to be archived ...where they should have been put long ago...and should be put now.

I agree. Since the cost of shipping them will be too much for free. Why not make him the current trusted, great source for parts and full machines? He's probably tested most of them and have many parts.

I would even be fine if he did it for a small profits.

The alternative is buying from eBay or something, not know until it's too late if it a real one of a knock off.

I have 2, one is current in need of soldering. So probably good for now. but you never know.
