Actually logged in just to say thank you for your efforts. Unfortunately it came with an expense to you, but I'm still appreciative of your endeavors.

Good luck on any of your future endeavors Joerg.

You should do so more often, at least from time to time. Just to let others feel there are some more dinosaurs ;)

Just out of curiosity, what's the current status of the project?

Quoting myself on IRC (https://freenode.irclog.whitequark.o...e/2019-05-06):

[6 May 2019 16:09:03] <whitequark> i've looked at the website recently and there were no updates for 2 years...
[6 May 2019 16:09:09] <whitequark> that's not really inspiring
[6 May 2019 16:44:45] <DocScrutinizer05> there's no inspiration in Neo900 anymore
[6 May 2019 17:03:13] <DocScrutinizer05> a year ago I was busy founding a new "joint venture" company together with PrivateInternetAccess, to build STEP2 streamlined and solidly funded by 7 to 8 digit capital, and compensate all Neo900 customers. Alas I wasn't allowed to speak about it back when, so no updates for the website and no joy of sharing the good news with community for me (would have helped a lot to cure my burnout and community frustration). Then a few months later PIA realized that their HR plans were not implementable because for one key position the planned person wasn't available, and they put the project on hold until the issues solved. They kept sponsoring Neo900 to keep the UG alive so eventually they could restart STEP2 and the company merger. Now PIA changed their mind probably since business changed for VPN providers and they stopped sponsoring me / the UG. This means Neo900 UG is definitely at an absolute dead end now. And so am I

"Declared dead"
But threads not closed and archived.
It seems we are waiting for the best seller book .."How the Neo Failed"
The made-for-tv Sunday night movie...
and the illustrated graphic novel.

It single handed ....managed to tie up a massive amount of precious time resources people and money ...
In an endeavour which cost Maemo device advancement more than 5 years....and counting.

Put a stake through the heart of this undead monstrosity that will not die.

Dead isn't fair, hiatus is more the appropriate term I would say.
Some commits where pushed to git last week.

Re: Neo900 - finally a successor of N900

Some commits pushed to git?
A parallel with that at this point ..would be hair and fingernails on a buried corpse still growing.

The neo is not coming back...
It is almost hopelessly behind in specs now to what devices currently ACTUALLY exists right now that people have bought.
Even if the neo gets out of the proto stage and is ready for sale ...
when would a realistic date for that be now..?
1? 2? 3? 5 more years?
No ...it is done..
Even if it came out this year...
It would be hard to sell 100 or even 200 of them..
They lost the edge they had in specs in relation to what was out selling 5 years ago...
Since then they have lost a huge amount...
It isn't an edge anymore ...
the standard for specs ...put the neo's in a deficit.
and that deficit is always growing.
And technological change ...and the disappearance and obsolescence of needed parts setting them back further and further...
to have to source and test alternatives was always what the team was fighting..
Time was their adversary.
I said those exact same words years ago...
That they have an edge for a span ...but given enough elapsed time....without an end result ..and they will lose that edge.....until it is at par ...then a negative...
They are definitely spec and sourced-parts wise..in the red now.

Pete's got it right.
When Santa himself says Christmas is dead ...
Well ....there go the presents...

(Do I REEEELY have to post Monty Python's Dead Parrot sketch ..
So the gamut of what "dead" refers to ...is covered adequately?)

OT but... you do realize that hair and nails do not grow after death, don't you?
That rumour was born from the illusion of them growing by the corpse drying out that causes the skin around the hair and nail roots shrinking and thus exposing more of said hair and nails.
Which, IMO, makes the git analogy even more appropriate.
