[ANNOUNCE] Ruby 1.93p448 (Maemo 5)

Cross compiled a newer version of ruby (1.93p448), promarily for personal use as I want an up-to-date metasploit running :)
Sorry, it is not in repositories, but sharing on my dropbox account.

For changelog, see: http://svn.ruby-lang.org/repos/ruby/..._448/ChangeLog

To download, use this link:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/k09ita5hd4...p448_armel.deb

You will need my openssl 1.0.1g
Se here:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=91787

Due to the infrastructure, binary compaitibility, this may give issues, which could cause a complete reflash needed. Just a warning, I didnt see any issues, but .....

For those paranoid, use version below...

For CSSU openssl version 0.9.8n
https://www.dropbox.com/s/cgrmg9lf76....9.8_armel.deb

This version is having a few issues, one being gem sources, which cant be retrieved due to ssl certificates, and you will need to change secure https to insecure http:
Code:

gem source -r https://rubygems.org
gem source -a http://rubygems.org

How usable is the latest version of Metasploit? Last one I tried was very slow... sometimes watchdog rebooting the device even.

It is slow on starting up - minutes, benefits ate obviously loads of new exploits (~600 compared I believe to 4.3 version of MS).
I havent experienced reboots.

Out of curiosity, why? Repos don't bite. Same apply for metasploit.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Ruby 1.93p448 (Maemo 5)

I'll have to try it out again... Searching for exploits was also painfully slow from what I remember.

Thanks for packages to get the new version working!

any downsides of your 1.x.x openssl? why the downgrade?

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Ruby 1.93p448 (Maemo 5)

I havent discovered bugs with v1.0.1e, but, fir the good cause I made this version, for those paranoid;) I recconend trying this version for openssl 0.9.8n, before 1.0.1e which MAY cause issues that MAY require even a reflash.

like I said I didnt experience issues, but again, one man cant tst all corners.
So, if you dont want to play risk, use the ruby version for open ssl 0.9.8 :)

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Ruby 1.93p448 (Maemo 5)

btw. with version compiled for openssl version 0.9.8, you will need to change gem sources to http from https due to outdated certificates ;)
Code:

gem source -r https://rubygems.org/
gem source -a http://rubygems.org/

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Ruby 1.93p448 (Maemo 5)

Is this version posted at the opening post of openssl vulnerable?
Edit: I see there's a working 0.98 version too, that was safe from the heartbleed AFAIK.

Anyway let's see if I can get metasploit running soon:D

nieldk 2014-04-16 20:56

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Ruby 1.93p448 (Maemo 5)

all versions of openssl 1.0 up till 1.0.1f are vulnerable to the heartbleed exploit, so - yes! 1.0.1e that I build will be vulnerable !

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Ruby 1.93p448 (Maemo 5)

recently reflashed my phone and installed power kernel 52.

I opened the deb with file manager and tried to install with app manager. It gives me a "Incompatible application package" error
Should I just install this with dpkg instead?
How would you go about launching msfconsole with ruby1.9 btw?
Thanks buddy :)

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Ruby 1.93p448 (Maemo 5)

to be able to run 'ruby' either add /usr/local/bin to your PATH
or
ln - s /usr/local/bin/ruby /usr/bin/ruby

if you want to delete
dpkg -r ruby-1.93p448

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Ruby 1.93p448 (Maemo 5)

belive if you

remove ruby
install libyaml
install ruby again

it will dissapear, but I also have seen that the current metasploit have some thing with yaml, and the suggestion is to start msfconsole with "-n" parameter

ruby msfconsole -n -L

yupp...fix ready...i'm juz install the other openssl v1.0.1 u upload....thank man!!!!job is done!!!!!now i need install bundle for my metasploit, but the rootfs is full....i'm try to move the programe from rootfs, can we do that bro? for example "apache2" to other path and do symbolic link "ln -s /{mypath}/apache2/bin/apachectl /usr/bin/apachectl" and then running with "apachectl start"....just for sure i wanna asking u,can we do that?????:confused::confused:

nieldk 2014-08-18 04:58

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Ruby 1.93p448 (Maemo 5)

hmm not that simple
I think best chance is to move apache to /opt
then ln -s /opt/apache2 /usr/local/apache2
then
ln -s /opt/apache2/bin/apachectl /usr/bin/apachectl

That would be too heavy :) read the errors during bundle install and google what is needed to successfully install each required gem

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Ruby 1.93p448 (Maemo 5)

Any idea how to resolve this? It is a requesting /sratchbox which I do not have on my N900:

Code:

/scratchbox/tools/bin/install -c -m 0755 psych.so /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/psych-2.0.5/lib
make: /scratchbox/tools/bin/install: command not found

This happened after "gem install psych", which then failed.
