What do you guys mean by tax back? Have we been overcharged for taxes or something?

The tax issue relates only to people outside of EU's tax area, like Norway, Switzerland, Εland and Jersey.

He's outside EU, he paid Finnish tax and now he'll have to pay Swiss tax and he only has to pay Swiss, so he wants Finnish back.

Maybe they are converting the unused 100e preorders to coupons?

I preordered mine in June, maybe they fixed it at some later point. In that case I guess it should be fair to treat us all equally. :)

EDIT: Oh, actually, it's the order date that should matter, right? Nov 25th here...

Actually, it's not just non-EU.

If you're a business in the EU you can have tax taken off business purchases at source instead of going through the hassle of claiming it back from another EU member which is rarely worth it for the one purchase.

Jolla weren't and presumably still aren't set up for intra-EU B2B transactions though and I wasn't going to miss out on a new phone. :D

I also ordered on the 25th (pre-order in May). I'll def. have to write Jolla about that - but I'll wait after Christmas. We shouldn't have paid the EU/Finish tax but will have to pay our VAT. And probably also customs duty...although I'm not sure about that since it's coming from an EU country - the hole thing confuses me anyways :p

The only thing I want now is my Jolla on Monday 23/12 before 6pm (that's where I leave to visit my family & my holiday starts). Let's hope it works out!

I looked it up a couple of days back (found an official website for such matters), and there is apparently no customs fee when importing a cell phone from the EU... But I could be wrong, I suck at laws.

They didn't respond to my question on Twitter, so I guess they're still looking into it. Somehow I believe they'll sort it out.

BTW I'm here until Thursday so I really hope to get the damn thing so I can brag back home :)

I'm pretty sure the tax-fiasco was corrected after 25th November. I paid my pre-order on 25th and had to pay the full price (€399), but when I checked back a few days later, the cost of the device had already been reduced to €312.

I've already written Jolla care about this, no response yet (though tbf I'm not in a hurry and not expecting to get a response either until the shipments are done).

So, they've removed the Finnish tax (24%) on both the phone and the delivery, which is correct.

Here's my order summary [100Euro pre-order] where I've paid Finnish tax on both the phone and delivery - which I should not do

Re: Jolla tracking numbers

Norwegians can expect tax (at 25%) to be added, no other customs charges........(unless Fedex charge a handeling fee on top...)

Here's a tax calculator for Norway:

Caprico,

you're with me and other 100Euro pre-orders shipping outside of EU.

You've paid Finnish tax (24%) on both phones and the delivery, something you should not have.

Us outside the EU should have been charged:
Phone...........................303.24Euro (399Euro including Finnish taxes)
Shipping for one phone...11.4Euro (15Euro including Finish taxes)
In total...........................314.64Euro

Re: Jolla tracking numbers

Isn't the phone 321.77€ + 80.13€ VAT = 399€. So the phone should be 321.77€ without taxes. That's at least what I get on my order page.

Re: Jolla tracking numbers

I am happy that finally my order went into "In Picking" status. It is still in the same status. However, I won't have my Jolla by Xmas since I am leaving today for almost one month. Had the phone been sent one day before (wednesday), it would have arrived today.

Well, I get my delayed Xmas present in January.

Thank you Jolla, since you kept the promise to send all the phones by Xmas. However, a little better communication and openness would have been appreciated by many of us. (no irony, I mean it for real :))

Also the people from Jolla Care could have been more "responsive". I wrote them some days ago a request for changing the delivery address. And until now this request has still not been assigned to any agent.

Merry Xmas to all, and enjoy your Jollas! (well, the ones of you who will have it in your hands).

I'm no Finnish VAT expert by any means so I might well be wrong in my previous calculations.
Like ziller, I've too sent a query to care@jolla.com to clarify the VAT situation.

Here's how I've calculated the numbers.
For the current Finnish VAT rate look here:
http://www.vero.fi/en-US/Precise_inf...alue_added_tax

24% of 399€ (399*0.24) is 95.76€.
399€ - 95.76€ = 303.24€

Your phone has had a flat VAT rate of (321.77€/399€=0.8064411027568922) 19.4% deducted.
How they got to that figure I do not know.

BTW: LordSnick with the 0€ pre-order had to pay the same 321.77€ figure after VAT had been deducted shipping to Norway: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...postcount=1440

My main point still stands though. No tax has been deducted from my order at all, so far.

In EU, VAT is added to the VAT-free price. If the price including VAT is 399,00 €, then VAT-free price is 399,00 € / 1,24 = 321,77 € and VAT is 399,00 € - 321,77 € = 77,23 € (= 24 % x 321,77 €).

The correct formulas are

399e/1.24=321.77e for VAT 0% from full price
321.77e*1.24=398.99e for VAT 24% from VAT 0% price

Hear hear! Good recap lupastro.

All I want to add to that is this suggestion: Jolla, please respect the pre-order priority next time that you didn't now do. Respecting the queue is very valuable to many people, be it pre-orders or Christmas shopping at a store.

Merry Christmas to you lupastro, Jolla and all! Have a great trip, those of you going somewhere. :)

Merry Christmas to you lupastro, Jolla and all! Have a great trip, those of you going somewhere. :)

I just talked to FedEx and this information may be interesting to the ones who are not at home and would get the Jolla after Xmas.

I asked them if it would be possible to change the shipping address in my case, since I will be in Spain instead of Germany for the next weeks. They told me that as far as the parcel is still in origin or in one intermediate hub, it can be rerouted with no extra cost. Should be the parcel in the "end-depot" it can be rerouted but with extra cost (I do not know if this also applies to non-EU destinations).

As soon as I get my tracking number I will call FedEx to do this!! Maybe I will get my Jolla before Xmas after all!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Merry Christmas also to you epmt and everyone. You have been a great company these last days!

But now I am thinking of waiting until Christmas eve before opening the box! :D :D so that I can have time to give the phone the attention it deserves! :P Am I crazy or what?? Do you think I can make it? :P
Thank you Jolla for making me anticipate for a present and making it feel like Christmas after many many years!

Perfect timing, Jolla!

How much did it take from the change to "In Picking" since the parcel was trackable via FedEx?

Which number did you use? Order#? Or the Order_id that was to be seen in the URL?

Thanks!!

For me it took ~20h for the parcel to be trackable via the reference number - I used the order # (enter without the #) to track.

Re: Jolla tracking numbers

I think that they should really give it a push today and get to FedEx as many devices as humanly possible - if it gets into the next week serious delays, misplaced packages and so on can easily occur as it always happens during that time of the year.

Then, even through no direct fault of their own (it's postal and courier services that end up in a real mess), Jolla possibly won't be able to live up to the 3-4 weeks delivery promise.

Re: Jolla tracking numbers

still too definitive a comment, you said people will get them, we arent just talking about the UK, zwer is in Serbia for example, plus, there have been several examples of the route going 'round the houses' so to speak, via different countries and taking far longer than the *ideal* quoted times mentioned by the courier, of course they are going to show optimal lead times.

we are talking about in practice, thats why i say the comment is too definitive, i also know that phones have shipped very quickly, but some have not, if all had, i could understand your optimism.

i will soon be able to let you know, if you are correct in all instances about shipment to the UK, as mine falls into that category and went into picking two days ago, thus in reality should have shipped.
