Some months ago I lost my registration in whatsapp while using mitakuuluu (but was not banned) and had to register again. It happened after mitakuuluu tried to reconnect to Whatsapp network too aggressively, when using the "keepalive" option. When keepalive was disabled, mitakuuluu seemed to be a lot less agressive trying to reconnect.

Some weeks after that happened to me, it happened to my brother. So I was thinking maybe the users are not being blocked because whatsapp detected they are using an unsupported protocol, but because they are trying to connect to the server too aggressively.

What do you think, is this possible?

The same is now with me. Am blocked and can not register to me. Neither via sms or via phone call. No plan if I had c3 server and to keep alive.

just a thought: it seems to be a special problem / suspicious feature / option in Mitakuuluu. i found no reports of recently banned users in threads of Yappari / Whatsup or other unofficial clients...

Time to change to textsecure or xmpp with mitakuuluu ui. Maybe coderus accept spending money to do that ;) ... maybe not

I deactivated Keepalive just in case. If I get blocked I won't be able to register again. The phone number I am using is not mine any more (is an alias from Fonyou service, but they closed). Moreover, if I get blocked, probably I won't use Whatsapp more. I won't give them my real phone number.

I hope kontalk guys finish soon their client (now in betas) and get promotioned by free software community... Is almost just xmpp, is all open protocol, is all free (libre) software, have syndicated servers, OTR encryption...

thanks, interesting article, but what i mean is:
it's nothing new, that they want to block inofficial clients, the big difference for us is, now they can block Mitakuuluu, but not e.g. Yappari as it seems by now, so there must be an important difference, we need to find out.

Yapapri and Whatsup using old protocol, same with S40/Symbian whatsapp, which won't be changed anymore because of too much legacy devices. Mitakuuluu is always on the edge and using latest protocol with all new features :)

Changed to official Whatsapp for time being. The official app is terrible compared to Mitakuuluu in my oppinion...

Anyone know if there is an easy way of importing contacts to android side? Now that I am trying to add contacts through Whatsapp it says not supported.
