Feedly (or other) RSS reader for Sailfish.

The reader from Feedly seems to be the best RSS handler since Google reader kicked the bucket.
Unfortunately I have not found any native application for the Jolla phone and the android app crashes when trying to login.

Anyone know of anything usable?

I don't know how you looked but I would say look at tidings in store. You also find it by typing rss in store search field .

Re: Feedly (or other) RSS reader for Sailfish.

I'd be interested in a Feedly app too, it's my feed reader of choice after the demise of Google Reader. It seems it has a developer API too.

EDIT: whoa, I forgot that gNewsReader (feed reader for Harmattan) implemented Feedly support some time ago! Maybe it can be ported to sailfish, I'll try to get in touch with the developer.

Re: Feedly (or other) RSS reader for Sailfish.

Personally, I'm waiting for the developer that made the Tiny Tiny RSS client for Harmattan to return from Austraiia (!) and work on the SailfishOS version, which is already in the plans (https://github.com/cnlpete/ttrss/issues/58)

I'm developing a NewsBlur client for Sailfish OS. Currently I am working on the lower-level API client, but a native silica UI is next on the cards:

I can only recommend tidings. Try it!

I did and it's quite good, the problem for me is that I don't always read my feeds on the same device, so having a cloud service I can access from all my devices is very important to me. So if I read something on the PC it doesn't show anymore as unread on the tablet and the phone, etc.

I could export my feed list in OPML format from feedly and then import it in Tidings, but then the two would not talk to each other (unless things changed since the last time I tried Tidings).

Re: Feedly (or other) RSS reader for Sailfish.

If you use ownCloud then there is the News application that is great.

There is a very good Harmattan/Sailfish app called ocNews that sync with your ownCloud. ocNews is available on openrepos.

Re: Feedly (or other) RSS reader for Sailfish.

OK, thanks for the tips.

Maybe i have to skip Feedly and go for another platform. This as I, like Watchmaker here above, values synchronization between all my devices.

I'm developing a Feedly native client for SailfishOS right now.
I can't promise anything but I could have something ready covering the basic functionalities in a couple of weeks.

Re: Feedly (or other) RSS reader for Sailfish.

I have tried the Tiding, it is good but it does not load the full article, I need to go to web browser to see the full text. Please implement this feature and allow the font size selection.

Re: Feedly (or other) RSS reader for Sailfish.

I am using the application Feed'me (available via the store).
It is not perfect but works OK and the best I have found so far.

If Tidings does not show the full article, then there is none in the RSS feed, and you should complain to the author of the feed.
Some feed providers think that a feed is merely a digest of headlines and teasers and require the reader to open the website for more...

Re: Feedly (or other) RSS reader for Sailfish.

You can open the website in Tidings by swiping to the left, however.

Oh really? My source is dailymail.co.uk/home/index.rss

I use the app nextgen reader on Lumia phone, it can load the full text.

Thanks, I'll look into this. But I suspect the Lumia simply loads the web page (as Tidings does when swiping to the left).

Why don't you open the feed yourself and check? It contains 1 headline, a short summary (1 sentence) and an image per item. The full article is not part of this RSS feed.

There is a Feed'me app on the Jolla store.

Pretty basic Feedly client, has nothing fancy in features but hopefully will get better

That's a feature of Tidings. It's trying to save you from reactionary right wing outrage and pictures of celebs in various states of undress.

ie. things that appeal to Lumia users.

Anyone got the Android feedly client working in Jolla? I have it installed but every time I open an article it crashes.

Why would you use an Android app when there's a native client available in the Store? ;)

I have both of the Sailfish apps installed from the store and... well they just don't work as good as the Android client.

That's why.

That doesn't mean it cannot improve it. Make suggestions / bug reports to the author, and perhaps one day it can become even better than the Android version.

I'm using "The old reader" http://theoldreader.com/. Is it possible to make Tidings compatible with it?
I exported my feeds from the old reader in to the .opml file, but it seems that there is no way to make Tidings read that file. :(

Re: Feedly (or other) RSS reader for Sailfish.

Yes, importing feeds from OPML is planned for Tidings.

Re: Feedly (or other) RSS reader for Sailfish.

I tried both Feed'me and Feed Haven and they don't support any sharing option so far (they are planned, though) - what about ownCloud and Tidings?

Re: Feedly (or other) RSS reader for Sailfish.

There are two things I miss in Tidings:

1. The caching of articles: Everytime I open the application I have to download all articles from scratch and can't "pre-load" them for times when there is no internet connection.

2. There seems to be no way to acces HTTP-Access protected feeds (I tried https://user:password@url without success). It would be really great if this was possible.

I'm the author of Feed Haven: unfortunately there's no official sharing API for SailfishOS at the moment. As soon as Jolla will stabilize the API and accept apps using it for Harbour inclusion, I'll enable sharing options in Feed Haven.

By the way, I've just submitted to Harbour Q&A a new version of Feed Haven with support for searching, adding and managing feeds.

I'm considering this. But first I want to fix the issues where the app is not responding for several seconds, especially when having lots of items.

Do you have an example of such a feed? It's always good to have something to test with. I have implemented HTTP Basic Auth and HTTP Digest Access for Cargo Dock and that could be used in Tidings as well.

Yay, was just waiting for the opml import solution ! :)

Is it possible atm to import feed 1 by 1 using terminal ?
copy/paste from my opml file will be faster :D

Thanks anyhow, really nice app !

I did not know sharing menu APIs have not been disclosed yet. By the way, with latest updates, Feedly Haven is nearly perfect! It performs better than the official app (which crashes even on Android phones, so...)

Cheers!

Feed Haven 1.0.9 is out!

There are some new features as well as the usual bug fixes: now you can tag an article as "Saved for later" as well as mark all the articles older than the selected one as read.

Some comments about your apps

no images are displayed in the list of the articles

no way to select a folder (for insistance, in my feedly account I have a special folder for all news about tennis. I would like to be able to select only this folder)

Anywau, thanks for your app

Thanks for using Feed Haven :)

Images in article list are visible in landscape orientation only.

I'm planning some changes in the UI that will let me add category (folder) view: it will definitely be available in a future release.

Hey Luca, I've been using Feed Haven for a couple weeks - had no idea the dev was active on here! Love it so far!

One thing though, while I can sort feeds into existing categories, I can't make new categories. Is this planned for the future?

I want an rss video player for sailfish

Like vchannel on iPhone
Like rss video player on android

Make it happen please

Re: Feedly (or other) RSS reader for Sailfish.

What I would like to see in Feed Haven: In the "All feeds" view, show also the news source for each item.

Further, it would be nice to be able to customize the list view so that you could have for example source + headline + image, or headlines only for compact view, or headline + beginning of body text (like it is now in portrait view), etc.

Anyway, thank you donaggio for this app. I use it. :)

donaggio 2014-11-26 13:50

Re: Feedly (or other) RSS reader for Sailfish.

@From Vertu with Love: yes, adding new categories is a planned feature

@ssahla: I'll certainly add feed names in the "All feeds" article list; regarding customization options, I'm planning to add a "Settings" page

Thank you all for using Feed Haven!
