Transfer Outlook in N800 - I've looked!
I've searched but ...
If I can get my contacts / notes / and calender into the N800, then I can sell my Treo. Any ideas or items I missed (which I'm quite sure of) |
Re: Transfer Outlook in N800 - I've looked!
GPE for contacts and calender. Notes, that comes with N800 will work. Or you can just use google calender & contacts. BTW, GPE is at www.maemo.org.

Re: Transfer Outlook in N800 - I've looked!
You can get from outlook to GPE (contacts and calendar), but it depends on how much work you want to do to get them there. If you want truly automated sync, then I don't think that is out there yet.
If you don't mind a little work. I use a product O2M (outlook 2 mac, purchased for $10 from little machines ...google it if interested). And it will generate a file that can be imported into GPE contacts or GPE Calendar. The only problem are calendar entries that have WKST=SU (the day may vary). So, prior to importing the calendar file I rip that sequence of characters out and then import it. And yes, this remove the calendar and reload the calendar. So, it isn't perfect, but does work. |

Re: Transfer Outlook in N800 - I've looked!
On the Windows machine you want to switch from Outlook to the Palm Desktop - surprised you didn't think of it. Or...
The sync thing is a bit odd. I've got it going using Google Calendar as the intermediary, and Erminig as the N800 tool. I don't actually use the Palm Desktop any more, as my T5 died, and the store, under their extended warranty, had to give me a laptop to replace it. I was lucky enough to have a Sony Ericsson phone, and use this product: http://www.fjsoft.at/en/ MyPhoneExplorer syncs my w810i with Google, Erminig syncs my N800 with Google, and I'm laughing (not at you, though). Note that MyPhoneExplorer also syncs my w810 with the Thunderbird address book, and I was able to do a VCS export that the N800 original address book could import. Key to all this was a mental shift - alarms, and reminders I now keep on my phone. I consider the N800 to be a better data entry system to get to Google, if my laptop's not around, than my phone. I believe the key to all these PIM issues is which copy of the database you consider the master. I used to consider the Palm/PDA to be the master (a good choice BTW. The sync copy on the computer then becomes the backup). Now I consider the MPE (MyPhoneExplorer) database on my laptop to be the master. The alarms are on the phone, and the N800 is the mobile data entry device when I need to input more than simple information. |
Re: Transfer Outlook in N800 - I've looked!
Outlook-to-GPE-and-back is doable, actually. Acrobatic but functional, and mostly automatic.
You need a Google mail & calendar account. First you sync your Outlook calendar with your Google one using the Funambol plugin, through a proxy account at ScheduleWorld, as explained here : http://tinyurl.com/zl7e7 After that, you can sync your GPE calendar with the Google one using David's Erminig. |

I don't mind - if it's possible - to export calender/contacts/memo's/ then re-import those files to the N800, even if there is a bit of gymnastics to be had, I - like you I think - need it to be reliable. |
