True. And I made the mistake of not looking it closer; there is a PM in the clock which forces the clock more to the left. Just tested it with mine...
One can hope. I know LPM would require very low level of backlight enabled, and would use up more juice, but I think the phone would still last the whole day. :(

They said they won't be releasing any images for the N9. I'm ok with that since they aren't Nokia BUT if some of the Android devices will be getting official images, why does the N9 also don't get one? Can someone please explain this?

Hardware adaptation licensing on N9 is such that it is impossible for Jolla legally to provide N9 images. Add on top of that the Wayland implementation is not technically up to par.

Soon (tm), but it will be a rough one as hw is pretty crappy.

Delivery time has been updated a couple of times (that I noticed), and price is up to them. I don't think the price is wrong anyway. I don't know of any other better phone that you can buy for the same price, or more for that matter. Ready to be challenged though.

Soon is good. But Nokia often use soon as well and that's a big fail. Either give an estimate or don't comment at all. Soon is soon, noth months or weeks.

I understand there might be issues with different hw because of mismatch in design but Crappy? It's twice as fast as jolla. ( there are many nexus you know ;) ) Jolla hw is crappiest hw I own. Simular to free phones like blade lll and galaxy ace.

The price is ok for me since I already having a jPhone. But I can't see how jolla manage to sell many devices nowadays.

Samsungs and Nexus have very bad reception. Samsungs in particular have also very bad call quality. If we are talking about _phones_, that makes them crappy. Clearly they made them faster but they aren't a proper phone. Also, Sailfish feels faster (even in beta stage) than Android on a Nexus 5, so the speed of the CPU is relative (as it's always been).

Yes, but there are 2 ways to look at the "fastness" of a device; The Subjective way of how fast it feels to use and the Objective way of looking at the techspecs.

I have kind of gotten the feeling that @Dave999 is an "Objective kind of guy", techspecs are more important for him than the feel of the device :D

None is truly objective here... You can't play that card.

I have kind of gotten the feeling that @Dave999 is an "Objective kind of guy"== correct :D

techspecs are more important for him than the feel of the device==incorrect :(

Screensize/quality plus browser are more important for him than the feel of the device==correct :D

So, is it all ok even if you have no decent reception? Especially on devices designed to work with online services? ok, I don't see the point then :S

Never said that. What do you mean with no decent reception?? Never had any issues with my receptions ever phone calls where I live or when travel. (I'm using satellite when hiking)

What are we arguing about? I can't remember :D

Nexus 4 and 5, Samsung SGS2 and 3 have worse reception (in my experience) than Nokia 5800, E7, N9, iPhone 4, Jolla, especially indoors.

While YMMV, I wouldn't say that the nexus's and samsungs have "better hardware" than the Jolla when they don't have a proper antena and/or RX/TX gear. It's like owning a Bugatti Veiron fitted with Fiat 600 tyres.

Anyway, I digress. Let's wait a few more days for Sailfish 1.0, and hopefully have it for Android phones soon after.

Maybe I live in a country with Topnotch network so I never suffer from that ;) Eifther way. I hope the screen size will be increased in Sailfish 1.0 :D

Sail will rock in a few years when running on big devices. We just need external partners joining the show. Jolla can't do it alone.

never had any call/reception problems with my nexus 5.

android is still pants tho, so i'd be happy to pay for a supported sailfish image to install on it.

So uh... any word on the next version of Sailfish? Isn't MWC done by now? When are we getting the "commercial" / "1.0"?

Re: Sailfish now on 1.0 (Jolla MWC announcement)

Getting into in an area with poor reception daily, I have made the experience that Jolla so far had the best reception.

(best reception) Jolla > N900 > N9 > ... > N950 (worst reception)

Yes, just saw that and not happy. This update did not make February as it wad a short month. Well it is 3 days shorter so why is the update 10 days late.
This has all the hallmarks of the old nokia ways, always the end of next week, which rarely arrived.

Some consistency would not go amiss, the update was proudly showed at MWC so why another delay.

I'm irritated as I have had to revert to my N9 as the connection error issue on my Jolla has rendered it useless.

Dave999 2014-03-04 21:37

Re: Sailfish now on 1.0 (Jolla MWC announcement)

But at least jolla said it will come next week. That will count for something.

Jolla should implement a release countdown for every release.

Is that the full update to the latest version "commercial ready" version? Or the stop gap

I would say man up a bit, just the fact that we are getting updates so often from a 1/4th of a team of what meego had is brilliant. I am perfectly aware of the issues as I can't use wifi in work so most of the day my Jolla is off-line and I am annoyed, but don't forget what Jolla said:
Quote:

We would also like to emphasise that whilst we strive to roll out software updates at roughly 1 month intervals these may not sync with calendar months.
Dave999 update counter does not seem like a good idea, that would take away all the freedom. And tbh once Jolla is at a stable stage I would not mind seeing updates take more time. Quality over quantity, so each update would be stable and contain great, well tested features.

That said it's my previous experience talking, with an open source model it's obviously different so feel free to disagree with me.

It's not about the size of the team and I don't call 6 weeks a month. It's about consistency of message. Don't say one thing and do another.

I am aware that this is a very first world problem too. :D

nodevel 2014-03-05 09:39

Re: Sailfish now on 1.0 (Jolla MWC announcement)

While I like the idea of an update every month, I really don't want it to turn into the Ubuntu's "we need to make a release on that date, whether it is stable or not" style of thinking.

Under such circumstances, I'm completely fine with Jolla postponing releases.

PS: I even hoped that there would be a delay after MWC as it might indicate their lack of time caused by being busy preparing devices for various partners :)

Larswad 2014-03-05 09:45

Re: Sailfish now on 1.0 (Jolla MWC announcement)

I second that, don't just release something because its a specific targeted date.
That being said, I'm just as impatient as anyone else. I'm eagerly waiting and frequently using that "Check for updates" pulley menu.

mariusmssj 2014-03-05 10:02

Re: Sailfish now on 1.0 (Jolla MWC announcement)

Expanding on what what nodevel and Larsawd said. I hope they took in feedback from the MWC14 because they had something like 3500 people at their booth a day.

So I do hope they got some feedback and are making some improvements based on it.

bockersjv 2014-03-05 10:03

Re: Sailfish now on 1.0 (Jolla MWC announcement)

It's a fair cop, impatience and a bad work day got the better of me. In retrospect i would rather wait for something that works.

Anyone else added the "about product" as a shortcut on the settings screen.

Re: Sailfish now on 1.0 (Jolla MWC announcement)

February was a short month AND this is 1.0 AND they had MWC in the way. I think they've enough legit excuses lined up for some slack to be cut. ;)

Dared 2014-03-05 13:47

Re: Sailfish now on 1.0 (Jolla MWC announcement)

I think some people here should cut them some slack tbh

We've already received more updates than what we got on the n9. They ARE listening to us, and trying to prioritise bug fixes based on what the community is telling them

They have, and, are doing a marvellous job. Just because an update is a week or so late doesn't mean we should start complaining. I'd rather an update be late than incomplete

Between getting some delay in the actual release of an update and a policy of no-comments, "it's ready when it's ready", what would you prefer?

YES!

The phone is mainly useless in its current state, as wifi is kind of a mess/disaster. Also the wifi eats a looot of battery
