Even without adding turn-by-turn voice nav, it needs a bit of work as just a mapping app.

I got the feeling the app is not yet ready, only beta state, and the reason for that is probadly that Jolla has stopped pay the consult company for continue development of app... (because Jolla need more income first...)

http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/...untu-handsets/

FFOS is doing even better than Ubuntu in that respect, although it can't really be compared to Sailfish/Tizen/Ubuntu, far less capable etc.
When it comes to hand-helds, Tizen no longer seems to be interested in getting 3rd parties on-board, for now...
But Samsung will make it far more visible to potential hand-held partners with the arrival of it's Gear wearables that use Tizen instead of Android.

Not wanting to talk things down, but assuming there's been competitive progress*, some "light thrown on this subject" by Jolla is overdue.

*I dare not think the worst

And thats kinda sad. The only reason is the name. More people knows about ubuntu. Even if it for sure will be less stable and look as ugly as Android...

You can't compare a hobby SoC with mainstream SoC's or do you mean Jolla shall use Broadcom in they'r next device? AFAIK Broadcom does not have any highend SoC. And as we already know not even TI Omap singel/dualcore SoC(pandaboard/N9xxx/BeagleBoard) has open drivers.

The reality still is the big players(Microsoft, Samsung, Google) are writing the bussines rules...

Anyone noticed that all the Jolla apps are updated yesterday, 11th in Jolla store. (Excluded Android Support)
Something much awaited is coming soon, I think.

However, the Store doesn't offer any updates to the apps.

Wouldn't hold my breath for official lte support (case in point rainisto offering help in tweaking the radio switcher app, if they can get 90% of users covered by third party app ppl will be happy, since no pull requests so far it will work after next update, but not 100% to call it official, or maybe some other buggy behaviour comes in with failback switching, we'll see soon enough)

Yep - I thought that all the Jolla devices at MWC were on a version significantly ahead of the 1.0.3.8 we're all on right now, but bear in mind that what Jolla had there may not be something they're preparing to release to us.

So Dave999 - what are you basing your 'tomorrow' post on? Not that I doubt you, I'm just curious where you're getting your info.

Jolla: Update will go live next week, please go ahead with your post. Thanks!

Tomorrow is the last working day of the next week.

Battery charged and "About product" added to shortcuts.

At the ready!

I do still find it odd to go live on a Friday. In 30 years plus of IT releases I have never released a product or update on a friday.

What the hell though, will be nice to be able to use my Jolla again. 400eur gathering dust at the moment :(

? Maybe I worded it incorrectly, meant next update. It will come, with the help of such tools as third party apps (tethering?). Nothing wrong with that, just as someone noticed mar14 tag never appeared next to LTE/4G questions and bockersjv had seen some twit about it rather unlikely being supported. Add switcher app thread to it and it really is unlikely 4G will be officially in the next update. Would love to be wrong as I am mostly using lte, though the missing calls/sms are a bit of a pain, still, if there is unofficial version that works and with reports gets better over time... I'll be happy

Hopefully this time Jolla has reserved a bit more bandwidth on their CDN, or there will be again download bottlenecks and aborted upgrades.

Chuck Norris doesn't handle criticism, criticism has to handle Chuck Norris...

Also I hope wifi is fixed that I can actually connect to work via TLS, because every attempt at using conman to do it fails miserably

So what's going on here? I expected to wake up this morning (about 8am as I write) to a lovely day in the Washington DC area, where I'd be excitedly reading (and yes partly jealous) about all the wonderful fixes found in today's update of Sailfish. Am I missing something?

Nothing new yet. I assume the update is not ready for rollout today, maybe next week then :)

We're all missing something. No release yet today.
Marc Dillon tweeted on Wednesday the 12th ;

"We are listening & moving fast. Now ensuring the quality of Update 4 which is expected soon. Here we come..."
Read into that what you want. I see it that we may have to wait a little longer.

Re: Sailfish now on 1.0 (Jolla MWC announcement)

My feeling is not very strong as my life does not depend on this :P
But I guess my expectation for today release was based on real information passed via Twitter and other media that they will spread the update this week and that it could have been last week but was postponed - from quite some time, they repeat early march...
So if it is not the case, they should inform that to polish the update (they may have found some nasty bugs again this week that prevent the update to be released or they want an additional feature (I can see MMS currently being developped) to be included), so they need another week. And I will be clearly fine with it.

I am pretty sure that the fact that they want the new update to be a reference point (not beta anymore), they have more pressure to release something with all beauty and magic ;)

I agree withou you but the problem is not about a today's update or not, is about their communication

Re: Sailfish now on 1.0 (Jolla MWC announcement)

I think they are too busy preparing the release and they have no time for the communication part.

Despite the complains we do support them!

Don't all go down to Dave999's level. It already seems like most of the actual contributors are not posting to this thread and I can see why.

From my point of view, it is a classical mistake. And I'm not sure it is too complicated to put someone behind the official twitter account to speak about progress (or late) about the update ;)

Well, no matter what happens, it is important to get it right. I'm patient (as I've mentioned before my phone will not arrive till April 14). But I am really interested in seeing how things develop, especially with the OH as I would like to use the Jolla phone as a measurement science tool. Could have many practical applications.

Re: Sailfish now on 1.0 (Jolla MWC announcement)

Do not get me wrong, they announced a release early March, we are now almost mid March and the release is not out yet.

Clearly, there are some problems that they need fixing and I am sure they are working hard to have it ready. Maybe we are going to have something over the weekend?

We know for sure the update is coming. I understand everyone here is eager to get it

However, i'd much rather get this update late, and have it free of bugs, rather than an update that brings extra problems, that then need to be addressed in a future update

Patience guys, patience

For those who can't wait to get that 'OS update available' notification:

1. Open Warehouse and select 'check for updates'
2. While this is running go to Settings -> System -> About product -> Check for update

BAM! You can now update to 1.0.3.8 while you're waiting for the real one (to get rid of it, just wait for Warehouse to finish and recheck)
