I just found one bug.. if you delete an app located on a folder.. delete notification will be shown on the normal app view, not on the folder one.
I don't now if you can show it on the second view... But you can just go back to the first view

Yep, same here.. To see deleting upper line, you need swype back from folder.

Re: [WIP] App / Tweak: patchmanager a system-wide patching system + homescreen tweak

Ok, I officially don't like patchmanager. I installed it a couple a weeks ago but never installed any patches. So for the upgrade to U11 I thought to get rid of it. Easier said than done. Using the Uninstall option in Warehouse was the only option I could find. Ok, tried it on both the Jolla settings plugin and the app. Checked settings, it's gone! I upgrade to U11 and check settings, guess what, it's back! I mean WTF! I again turn to Warehouse to use the Uninstall option. This was now only possible with the Jolla settings plugin. I check setting, it's gone! I go to the App screen, guess what, there's a patchmanager icon that wasn't there before. I deleted it.
Patchmanager seems to be removed but can anybody tell me how I can be certain this is really the case?

seems you have at least one patch installed and it depends on patchmanager, and system update checked unsatisfied depends and installed patchmanager back. now you just enjoy your clean device without modifications and never come back to this thread :)

Removed this comment as I didn't like the accusing tone towards Coderus (see the next comment for the original text).
I'll try some things with Patchmanager to see If I can in someway reproduce my earlier experience.

I'm not here trying to discredit Sfiet_Konstantin or anyone here. I'm just stating there's a problem with uninstalling Patchmanager.

just sit and wait for other answer then :)

Hello Coderus.

Thanks for this launher compined patch! It is awesome, now when I can change the grid amounts.

One proposition.

Is there possibility to add same kind of change of number but for the rows?

For example that you can choose 5x7 or 6x6 etc.

Best Regards,
Mikko

I always see people (me included) with the same questions about patches compatibility with Sailfish updates. And I've to say patches organisation within OpenRepos is a bit a mess.

My idea is the following:
1. Patch Manager remains the only component to manage patches as it is now
2. Instead of providing individual patches, you, developers, organize yourself to create repositories for patches specific to a Sailfish version, a kind of meta-package.

Let's keep an example, the first time you create the media controls on lock screen patch was for U9 I guess. And then, you updated it to work on U10 and currently U11.

Let's now imagine to have only one patches set on OpenRepos (a bit as you did with your combined patch) for U10. This patches-for-u10 would contains patches available specifically for U10 and no the ones not maintained anymore or obsolete.

When U11 gets out (it is already, but that's just for the demonstration), all patches updated for U11 are then packaged in a patches-for-u11 on OpenRepos.

And then for the following Sailfish updates. Let's figure out U12 will provide media player controls for lockscreen, then, the patches-for-u12 package should not provide your patch anymore.

That way, people will have a clearer idea about what must be updated. Just remove the meta -package of the old Sailfish, install the meta-package for the new update and that's all.

This just implies, you (developers of patches) should reach an agreement about how to organize yourself to package and maintains those patches sets.

Is it clearer?

Please no. The last thing I want is to have to install 30 patches when all I want is 3. It is bad enough that Jolla forces me to install Tutorial again on every system update, I do not want Patchmanager going down the same slope.

Patches suddenly breaking on a system update is unpredictable and unavoidable. SOme will continue working, others won't. Users shouls always assume that patches have been tested on the current OS version and take caution around the OS update time.

I understand but keep in mind some elements:
  • patches are not space consuming, they are very small indeed
  • having patches stored on your Jolla doesn't mean they are activated

And I'm the first one to not want to have all patches activated, just having the good patches according to my running Sailfish OS would greatly simplify patches management imho.

Leinad 2015-03-04 10:59

Re: [WIP] App / Tweak: patchmanager a system-wide patching system + homescreen tweak

i think, the ideal solution would be, if you could browse install and uninstall patches via patchmanager. maybe some kind of sub-repo on openrepos.

additional, patches should come with a range of versions, in wich they are tested successfully e.g. 0.7.0 - 1.0.99.
when your OS is out of that version-range, you should get a warning, but the possibility to continue anyway.

but i know, this would be a lot of work, just dreaming :)

Re: [WIP] App / Tweak: patchmanager a system-wide patching system + homescreen tweak

IMO patchmanager is already as simple as it should be. If you make it easier to use then more users who dont understand ANYTHING of what they are doing will play with it. And then more users will complain to developers when patch doesnt work 100% -> opposite of what was the original goal. Also these users normally dont provide any information for the developer to help fix the problem. Not to mention if a patch contains a serious bug and ends up in bootloop. The user cannot fix it and will blame for destroying the phone. This is one point of view :D

Another thing: I would like to change the quick scroll bar to the left side of the screen. In my head it seems like a very simple patch but im not a developer :o Someone wants to do it?

Well, not perfect, but yes. Your metapackage idea is weird imho. We're already thinking about managing patches inside patchmanager directly, just have no time for making it.

Another idea for a patch - long tap on settings toggle opens dedicated configuration page. For example: long tap on the gps toggle in Settings app opens the Location subpage.

It's not possible by design. You really need to have different entries for toggle and for opening menu.

Hello guys,

I'm still wondering about two things (I am on update11):
1. I am not able to run Eventsview - is any debug mode which tell me what's wrong? I did all reinstallation...
2. What about unlimited multitasking? Where has the patch disappeared?

Thanks for any hint :-)

Since the update I cannot load "Launcher combined patches" even after updating it. I tried uninstall and reinstall it from warehouse (and it says that patch cannot be unload, altought patchmanager doesn't show it as loaded).

Any magic :) command to remove only that patch and reinstall?

Hello malkavian.

I am not sure, but I had simiral problem and it was that this launcher combined patch could not be installed, if you have 5x6 grid installed.

Released couple new patches for Sailfish Calendar and Clock. Others got updated as well to fix couple issues.

Enjoy!! Let me know if you find any issues.

Re: [WIP] App / Tweak: patchmanager a system-wide patching system + homescreen tweak

After a long deliberation, I have gone ahead and made a patch to Show month and days of the week heading in Calendar.

There were a few reason for hesitating. It was abyzthomas' idea to start with and it was I who suggested to move it to the bottom, which abyzthomas eventually implemented. So I feel a bit guilty. The second reason is that, unfortunately, because they both patch the same file at the same place, my patch conflicts with abyzthomas' Show Day of Week Heading patch. Both can be installed but only one can be active at any given time.

This was my first patch made, tested, RPM built and published entirely on the device. My first patch was also built on the device but with a heavy use of SSH; this one was done entirely autonomously and I can tell you, the tools - especially the editors - available on the Jolla make things like that a real challenge. And this was a really easy case. Unfortunately, due to my lifestyle, if I cannot do it on the device, I cannot do it at all. I may eventually have to bite the bullet and install vim :)

abyzthomas 2015-03-09 03:32

Re: [WIP] App / Tweak: patchmanager a system-wide patching system + homescreen tweak

I waited for a long time for Jolla to include the merge calls option. Today I thought I will package Patch: SailfishOS Phone UI Merge Calls

I did not figure out this patch. I am just packaging the published TJC patch created by dtdmrr

In addition to dtdmrr patch in TJC, I added option to hangup all calls and tried to enable unmerge calls option. I am calling the privateChat() method, but it seems ignored. Maybe some "real" programmers can help.

I have not disabled Unmerge because I want to have a few people test. If it is not possible with current ofono, I will remove this option in a future update to this patch.

Re: [WIP] App / Tweak: patchmanager a system-wide patching system + homescreen tweak

you need to create single patch for calendar inprovements and add settings widget to it.

Is it possible to add something to this patch?
I find it great, if the app i opened first stays on the first place and did not silde back after another app that i open later.
Than i think rembembering the postion of an app more easier if the app stays on the same postion all the time and the apps are orderd by opening time.
(App i opened first on the first place and app i opend last on the last place and NOT app i opened first on the last place and app i opened last on the first place)

thanks in advance

possible, but it requires to reverse ordering in everything

I would like to, but don't know enough about Qt programming yet . I am not a programmer like you, just messing with things. :)

I will take a stab at it when I get a chance.

Hi,
Just seen I can't "restart preloaded services" in Patch Manager anymore, whatever I do on patches. Any idea how to fix this?

Thanks.

coderus 2015-03-09 14:34

Re: [WIP] App / Tweak: patchmanager a system-wide patching system + homescreen tweak

It activating only after applying or unapplying some patch.

romu 2015-03-09 14:37

Re: [WIP] App / Tweak: patchmanager a system-wide patching system + homescreen tweak

I know but this doesn't work anymore. I can enable or disable any patch the "restart preloaded services" is not available, never.

EDIT: Rebooted twice the phone and the issue is fixed, strange.
