Re: [WIP] App / Tweak: patchmanager a system-wide patching system + homescreen tweak

Updated list of non-conflicting Patches (which I have installed), and Patches conflicting with or being an alternative to them (which I have looked at, so far), for SFOS 2.1.3.7 with Patchmanager 2.3.3-10.41.1 (post #2340 was for SFOS 2.1.2.3).
Note that in order to install some of the Patches listed below from Patchmanager 2's web-catalog, one has to activate "Enable developer mode" in Patchmanager 2's pulley menu (so it shows "Disable developer mode" there), as a few the Patch authors missed to mark their Patches as compatible with SFOS 2.1.3.7; never mind, because if a Patch is really incompatible to the installed SailfishOS version, it will not apply when trying to activate it in Patchmanager's main menu.

Format: - <Patch name> <my rating>, <Patch author>, <Source: wc (Patchmanager2's web catalog) | RPM (e.g. via Storeman)> [, <alt (alternative) | cts (contains) | "cts" (contains similar or same functionality) | cnf (just conflicts)>: <Patch name> <my rating>, <Patch author>, <wc | RPM>]

"My rating" resolves as follows:
- (+): Nice to have
- (++): Very good
- (+++): IMO a must
No "rating" indicates, that I have not used this Patch long enough to rate it.

Patches listed as an alternative (alt) to and / or contained (cts / "cts") in a Patch implicitly conflict with it (i.e. they cannot be applied together in Patchmanager, as they are patching the same locations of the SFOS UI).

- No automatic launcher hint, cornerman, RPM
- Less home animations, cornerman, RPM

... or add this functionality:
- MazeLock, coderus, wc,
alt: Scramble lockpad buttons, coderus, wc

If you like to make more items available in the events-view quick-actions, take a look at the Patches by alina found via the search term quick action and at the "Non-Patches" by Markkyboy found via the search term quickaction on OpenRepos.
If you like alina's "Remove black ..."-series (suited for bright Ambiences), "... from dialogs and bars", "... from launcher" and "... from Browser background" are working together with above Patch list (in contrast to "... from remorse popup", "Status bar hint" and consequently "Integrative remove black", which conflict with Patches listed above).

Unfortunately, these Patches are not (yet) compatible with SFOS 2.1.3.7:
- Notifications count in Switcher (++), coderus, wc (last working under SFOS 2.1.2)
- GPS supplier (+; solely for Jolla 1 phones!), Schturman, RPM (last working under SFOS 2.1.0)
- Show month and days of the week heading in Calendar (++), pichlo, RPM (last working under SFOS 1.1.9)

P.S.: As YMMV (just as everybody's, including mine over time), please refrain from criticising my preferences (WRT chosen functionalities) or my (certainly) subjective "ratings".

And still, any suggestions to enhance this list are welcome.

P.S.: See updated list of Patches for SailfishOS 2.1.4.14 in post #2433.

Also all patches are up-to-date and Ultimate Statusbar Patch has Android-runtime indicator now.

Hey, that sounds cool.
But unfortunately, I am not able to see the AlienDalvik indicator on a Jolla 1 phone under SFOS 2.1.3.7.
I installed sailfishos-ultimate-statusbar-patch-2.1.3.7-3.noarch from OpenRepos, activated it in Patchmanager, restarted lipstick ("Homescreen"), but cannot find it in Settings --> Statusbar settings --> Indicator settings or on screen in the statusbar. Any idea l, what I may do wrong?

Edit: After uninstalling Ultimate statusbar patch and reinstalling it, a new option Show Android-runtime indicator is present in its Indicator settings and working fine. Thanks!

Edit 2: Looking at the "Android-runtime indicator"-icon for a while, the icon itself is really nice, but IMO its position should rather be left or right of the "Presence indicator"-icon in the statusbar, i.e. on the right hand side. For me it does not really seem to fit well being grouped with the charge and volume indicator icons.
Edit 3: Forget about Edit 2; when looking at it with all indicators (including Presence and GPS) active in the statusbar your placement is fine; moving it would not constitute an improvement. Thus I am retracting the observation and suggestion in Edit 2.

You can choose the easy way - just install the latest available launcher-combined from openrepos (skip that if you already had the patch installed before upgrading), then delete the unified_diff.patch from the .../patch directory and copy the new unified_diff.patch you downloaded from github at the same place . Then make it executable for the user and execute it once in the directory (all of this is easiest with filetug root ... or the terminal ...depends if you’re faster clicking or typing ... ) - now the patch should be applyable through patchmanger ...

I've removed the latest rpm-package - it may cause reboot-loop if device doesn't have installed aliendalvik.

Oh, this is sad, it is looking really good.
I was just considering how to test properly, if it vanishes when AlienDalvik has crashed.

Can't one do at test like this (shell code example, because that's what I know) "similarly" in a Patch?
rpm -q --quiet aliendalvik; if [ $? = 0 ]; then
echo "Aliendalvik is installed."; else echo "Aliendalvik not present."; fi

And simply always suppress the test for it, when not installed?
Well, I fear my thoughts are too simplistic.

If you are successfully implementing the "Android-runtime indicator", just forget about my "Edit 2", as the observation and suggestion made there turned out to be nonsense, when all indicators (including Presence and GPS) are active in the statusbar: Your placement is fine, moving the Android icon would not constitute an improvement.

Anclead, many thanks for your efforts, all your Patches are really great and useful!

Re: [WIP] App / Tweak: patchmanager a system-wide patching system + homescreen tweak

@olf
not so easy... Some devices with ported SFOS can't use presence indicator, but some devices do, Inoi R7 crashes with disabled/enabled dalvik indicator etc.. I should test a lot of use cases.

Hi guys, long time no see.
I wanted to request this a long time ago.
Is it possible to add a show/hide caller id toggle into eventsview!?
Maybe coderus can do it. ;)

The option is located in Settings - Apps - Phone but it's way too much clicks to get there. Or one can simply dial the respective USSD codes,

*31# - show caller id
#31# - hide caller id

but a simple toggle in Events view would be way more comfy.

I think that executing it after making it executable with:
Code:

chmod a+x unified_diff.patch
isn't needed. I had to reboot, but afterwards it loaded and it works :). Thanks

Kind of both. :)
I thought there is no speed dial at all, only holding 1 on dial pad works (if voicemail is set) but no option to configure any of the other numbers afaik. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

For the other suggestion I would prefer to not have two separate icons on launcher for this purpose. :D

I'm sorry. Maybe I am being dense, but I have no idea how these two things are related. Is this a language/culture issue? Caller ID (to me) is showing a callers information when they call you. How is that at all connected to dialing someone quickly?

They aren't.
The suggestion was to set *31# and #31# as speeddials to enable/disable calling line restriction.

Partly based on virgi's ICE-patch, but has many improvements.

Re: [WIP] App / Tweak: patchmanager a system-wide patching system + homescreen tweak

Hi, I installed app-locker patch version 1.0.3 (from coderus in web catalogue), which appears to be not compatible with SFOS 2.1.3.7
Please don't tell me I made a mistake, I know it.

As a result, I have no access to any app on the phone. Help!

How do I uninstall or unapply it via SSH? (pkcon or zypper)

(Note: version --dup in progress, not sure it will succeed)

Try adapting the patch command in this post: https://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?...postcount=2337

once you ssh in you can run patch --help to get a feel for what the options will do, and the app locker patch file will be /var/lib/patchmanager/ausmt/patches/*applocker folder*/unified_diff.patch

Didn't work, but
pkcon install lipstick-jolla-home-qt5
did. Now rebuilding my UI.

Thx!

PS: some patches couldn't be unapplied by normal procedure (Enhanced power menu, Eventsview control, Allow contacts rotate). Should I remove them manually from /var/lib/patchmanager/ausmt/patches/ before going to 1.2.4.13 now available?

Code:

/usr/sbin/patchmanager -u app-locker
or whatever name this patch have inside /usr/share/patchmanager/patches directory
