Our community has atleast 50,000 registered users , so why dont we all fire an email at the same time to microsoft or nokia to make maemo completely open. This might slow down their servers a bit. What you say people? We should give them a holler.

good idea...dubious...but perhaps it may achieve something...perhaps not the reaction that is wished for too. I would say wait until free-mantle is done 1st. that will be open. Personally I believe biding our time until it is done 1st. It is also possible what ms/nokia have is either buried or worse wiped out of existence and we may never see anything....have to remember there are closed components on maemo that are proprietary to industries other than nokia...in maemo...and their vested interests more than likely are that they do not wish those aspects of theirs revealed. It isn't completely nokia's call I believe. (If in fact they could make any call)

Maemo wasn't fully open when 50k members and developers were active. No other Maemo device was really legally launched if it didn't come from Nokia. The dream to get Maemo fully open now will likely never happen. For instance - BME (not the reverse engineered one, but he Nokia source files) for instance, will stop that process unfortunately because of ranged reasons like its poorly coded/commented to it's proprietary.

And besides, those emails will land on Elop's desk. What do you think will happen?

yeah it isn't completely nokia's call but nokia should understand that their days are over . maemo is already dead. nokia has got nothing else to loose then why not make something open to community. its not like they will release another line of mobile devices in an instant. they should move on and let us do the same. some people are still stuck on nokia n900 and hoping maemo to be ported to another devices soon.

Hmm
Well I wouldn't say Maemo is dead.
Freemantle coming is a good example of it being active.
Community members still tweaking the os and programs....
As well there are programs still being ported and created for the platform...
Amoungst other things...
So I personally disagree...others may share your sentiment however...but personally i don't.

I think too that methods of pressure that have been thought out to get some movement to relinquish data from Nokia have been...shall I say...a little medieval perhaps? A little backward in fact ...considering the amount of brain-power that our community has.

The method of approach to appeal to Nokia has been to ask them...beg them....flood them with requests...and Gerbick has it right....Elop....hahaha. Yup the buck would certainly stop there.

Many members I am sure feel handcuffed, restrained or simply shut out or imprisoned by Nokia not releasing (essentially now) antiquated data to the community.

Well...think about it guys....if you are in prison....you don't appeal to the warden :D
You get people who can commiserate ....FROM OUTSIDE THE SITUATION.

THAT would put the necessary pressure on Nokia to help however they truly could.

Social Media.
News loves 'em.
People love 'em.
Seems to be doing wonders in ALL kinds of situations.
I don't Facebook.
But I do Twitter.
Get a public movement going on social media and for sure it'll have the desired impact you wish...
Hopefully Nokia has stuff to release...

Get 'er going and I'm sure scads and scads of people will sign.

If nothing is going to happen, then why waste the energy? Mer, Jolla and other endeavors exist. Why not use that wasted energy on Nokia/Maemo and use it on something else that's ongoing and (more) open?

Elop probably was the absolute worst candidate for a CEO I've ever seen. Macromedia and Boston Chicken both suffered at his hands. Nokia, no less.

I would surmise that without appealing for public awareness/ support and media involvement FIRST ....and instead simply hitting them with 50 000 emails will not result in public awareness/ support nor media involvement.
But it most assuredly will garner their anger.
It will achieve your desired result and it will achieve your desire to see what they would do next ...and since M$ is calling the shots I would say that there is a 99.9% chance it would not be pleasant.
I think that until we ...as a community... can safely distance ourselves from any possible reciprocated assaults ...especially ones that involve the public and media not being alerted 1st before shooting across the bow of microsoft. Public opinion would soften M$ and hopefully they would make a public show of kindness and generosity...
Simply waking and angering the sleeping giant without anyone watching ...out of sight....will not end well.

I am so in...if the desire is to aim AWAY from M$ and aim directly at public awareness and media involvement ...thereby bringing M$ to us...to help however they can...with the world watching...

But.... If you wish to shoot 1st...by firing off 50 000 emails...out of pure angst....then really ...it is about sharing your suicidal desire for the community to go down burning with you...

It's been noted that being a nuisance is not the kind of attention that will assist you in your endeavors. In fact, it'll do just the opposite.

This has never happened. Maemo has always been for great thinkers, tinkerers, hackers and folks that aren't happy with the status quo. Sadly, we're outnumbered by the masses that are just fine with iOS and Android.

They have competent MS Exchange server admins and filters. You'll be filtered out before you make a dent or become noticed.

Doubtful. The golden days are behind us; fate was sealed by a certain board/committee that saw fit to stuffing their pockets and their coffers with devices that would have better served actual and active developers instead of politickers and *** kissers. My disdain for what this community (in some aspects and personas) has become is well known.

If his divorce didn't make him contemplate suicide, doubtful that a surge in e-mails would either. Choose a more effective tactic. One that uses diplomacy for maximum efficiency perhaps.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. People will continue to reminisce about Maemo and the promise of MeeGo like folks did about Zaurus and Psion. Ahead of its time, taken down by not appealing to the masses.

It's ok ...really ..to blow a gasket and get upset...throw an idea around and vent..It's our job as your friends to calm it down...help you focus it. We'd be a poor and truly pitiful community if we just dismissed our fellow members and their justifiable upset...now would we?

Honest...start a twitter page and let the tears of injustice flow...about how the public has been denied a meaningful platform in this post Snowden age of darkness...by the corporations...no less. Tell the truth of course...but- Play it up. :D

I drink-ed some bear again. Why Don't We Have "Fusion" Power? ? I want to fill some power when I say "maemo".
I do not care about Nokia left maemo. Or bytes that are hidden.
I wan't to have a stronger community. First of all a queen. We can make a queen from any girl or woman who deserve and we can make her powerful = (make us powerful).
