All we hear is radio gaga radio gogo...

What differs functionally wise between n9 and n900 versions?

It's not as simple as adding an option to choose MAFW. I need to implement a player that uses MAFW instead of Phonon. If/when I do that, I don't see any reason to allow Phonon as a choice, since there would be no reason to choose it.

While waiting for that, i think we would live very well with the possibility to add a custom command to play the selected stream:

mplayer "http://shoutcast.rtl.it:3020/listen.pls"

or:

dbus-send --print-reply --dest=com.nokia.mediaplayer /com/nokia/mediaplayer com.nokia.mediaplayer.mime_open string:"http://shoutcast.rtl.it:3020/listen.pls"

This would also solve any "codec not supported" issue and allow an easy customization and fix for all the supported platforms.

I'm not familiar with the internal differences of the players, but I have noticed that mplayer has issues with buffering that result in its abandoning a stream & going silent when taxed. I must use kmplayer, which must differ somehow, when reliability for not going silent is essential.

What will happen with favorites?

Greetings.

PD: I know we still can on tunein.

Existing favourites will be lost, but you can add them back via TuneIn. Once you add the stations to the database, you'll be able to browse them offline. The benefit is that you might only need 100 stations in the database, which will result in better performance than having 30,000 stations, where 29,900 are never even used. There is also a better chance that the stations will be up to date when you add them, and you can always update them using TuneIn if they ever stop working.

There are no significant differences. Just some UI details.

I can do that. :) cuteTube already has that feature.

Here's what the Harmattan version currently looks like, with station logos and a toolbutton in place of the 'Now playing' banner:

You can set the buffer size for mplayer with the 'cache' parameter, e.g

Code:

mplayer --cache=2048 $filename
This should help with any buffering issues. I don't know if KMPlayer changes the default buffer size when it uses the mplayer backend.

Update (download .deb from repos, to sd, ham), does not save favorites or recent played.

Always shows empty (even after reboot).

Re: [Announce] cuteRadio - A user-friendly internet radio player

where does the search on main view? doesn't search on database neither on tune in

imaginaryenemy 2014-06-18 15:22

Great update (Harmattan)! A few issues, though:
-For me every time I update, i have to restart my phone or the app is practically unusable. "Application not responding" every tine i click anything. I don't have this issue with any other apps.
-When adding a podcast through tune in, the "adding" screen goes on forever. However, if you press cancel, everything was added just fine.
-Using the media player instead of the cuteradio player doesn't work. I get a connection error every time. Same stations play fine when using cuteradio player.

Thanks for your continued support!

Re: [Announce] cuteRadio - A user-friendly internet radio player

Updated to v 0.2.0 on my N9 today........and nothing worked anymore.
all favourite stations were gone.

Couldn't browse stations by genre, country or languages anymore, always got empty screen.
recently played stations were not shown.

then updated to 0.2.1 and I am totally confused,
options for genre, country and lang are gone, no favorites?

when I search station by country in tuneIn I get letters from A-Z, when you don't know the exact station name you're lost.
how to save stations?

re-installed v0.1.2 again, works fine

Re: [Announce] cuteRadio - A user-friendly internet radio player

@marxian
I'm testing your new version 0.2.1 and things are going better.
Browse categories and tunein search seem to be more clear.

To speed up searches, i would suggest you to cache locally in a separated folder, for example .logos_cache, all station's png since every png has the same id of tunein radio stations and it's unique.
Then, maybe add an option to enable/disable the alphabetic selection inside every category. (now is really boring..)

Artist and album info now always report "unknow" (maybe that in 0.1.0 it was working? - not sure)

I have found an interesting page about tunein api:
http://dementsov.com/2011/07/08/anal...adio-stations/

In this page there are also a pair of json file with a collection of radio stations extracted from there.

ONE IMPORTANT request:
Using:

curl http://opml.radiotime.com/Tune.ashx?...4197&filter=l1

you can extract original radio's url. Could you store also this into the db as secondary url when saving a station?

When/if the domain radiotime.com and tunein will become unavailable, 404 or what else, we will be able to swap primary and secondary url without lose our preferred stations!

Testing goes on, now i'm using cuteradio every morning! ;)
Great application! Thanks!

I don't see any need to cache data. The local database is there to store stations that you use regularly, thus reducing the need to search online. Also, as soon as you cache data locally, you have two problems instead of one. How often have you read the advice 'just delete the cache, and it will work again'?

It's not really feasible to do this, due to how the browsing works in the API. I agree that it sucks, but that's how it is.

I did switch from Phonon to QMediaPlayer, so that is probably the cause. I thought metadata was working correctly after manually setting the Icy-MetaData request header.

I came across that page when looking at TuneIn myself. I don't really want to be doing any heavy processing of data. I'd rather keep it simple and ensure that the data retreived is up to date. That is, after all, the purpose of having TuneIn integration.

I have considered this before, and will probably implement it (not using curl, though ;)).

I have been contacted by lawyers acting on behalf of TuneIn. As a result, I am ceasing distribution of cuteRadio until I decide how to proceed.

Marxian: If you decide to revisit CuteRadio, when adding a new station it appears that in Add Station, the Source field will allow input only of http://, and so mms:// stations cannot be added.

Example:
mms://103.14.3.137:80/concert-mbr?MSWMExt=.asf

First, congratulations on the program.

My problem is different, I can later add manually, but LOGO radio is not showing up.

I tried with the image file in two formats: JPG and PNG

I copied them to the folder:
/home/user/cuteRadio/.logos/teste.png

within the application and the way I tell it this way:
File:///homehome/user/cuteRadio/.logos/teste.png

But LOGO not appear. Where am I going wrong?

Thank you!

I tried so

Sorry about the late reply. :o

I'm not actually sure why it wasn't working (probably some problem with the logo downloader when using local files), but all data is now stored on a remote server in version 0.3.0.
