Battery life on my Jolla is fantastic and without having to maintain a 3G connection, I would say the battery life on this will be excellent.

Do we know what Sailfish 2.0 entails? Have they released any info regarding this?

That doesn't mean having a larger battery would hurt, though.

Well, only thing mentioned is ~13K bugfixes so far. Which, if you ask me, is huge :)

This tablet will work for me beautifully.
I was looking for an upgrade for my Nexus 7, and this will do,
I would have preferred a 16:10 screen, it is better for books, comics and a good compromise for videos, IMHO, but 4:3 will do.

I am also into books and graphical novels and I think the Jolla will do better than some tipical competition.

Nexus 7: 1920 x 1080 (323 ppi)
Nexus 7 II 1920 x 1200 (326 ppi) also 4:3?
Kindle Fire HDX 7: 1920x1200 (323 ppi)

Jolla Tablet: 2048 x 1536 (330 ppi)

At virtually the same pixel density the Jolla tablet extends your usual screen estate without taking much of your readability. (hope it gets the colours right like Amazon's)

In every 4:3 display panel there is a cost saving 16:9 / 16:10 panel. ;)

Screen estate comes at a cost of kinggo's "I feel like I am holding it wrong" comment above.

Hope this Jolla tablet will inspire the completion of more native applications or we may have to suffer a useless, fossil, black Android back button bar eating our screen estate.

I'm on the second 1K batch. I haven't had much use for a tablet, but maybe this one can host family's timetable on the wall (calendar replacement).

I'm desperately trying to come up with a reason to buy it also. Unfortunately I don't have kids so that won't work.

Somebody please help me find an excuse.

I really liked the "Events" view at Indiegogo page and Jolla homepage. Looked a lot like N9 event view, but with 2.0 in it. Not sure how it will work with smaller phone screen estate though...

The event view is what I miss the most from my N9. I am currently using N9 now again and that event view still kicks a** over all others I have used. Especially with tweaks that N9 had for it.

Especially when the hardware platform is running the intel chip?

"That’s why we’ve picked Intel’s innovation platform, backed by open source, to power the Jolla Tablet "

No proprietary closed source PowerVR graphics driver like in the Nokia N1 and open boot loader?

I would prefer an approach where you can install anything from desktop Linux to Windows on it.. but you actually don't feel like it because Sailfish is to good (Nitroid on N900 story)

Regarding Sailfish 2.0, the Event feed mockup looks great, but don't forget this:
https://images.indiegogo.com/file_at...gif?1416299227
  1. The transition looks N9-esque.
  2. There's only one action per cover (but I think/hope it's just for the mockup).
  3. Apps don't reorder on minimization! I've been waiting for this ever since Jolla came out :)

Well, I just woke up 15 minutes ago, and apparently I've missed out. :)

But yeah, I might just break down and purchase my first tablet here. I've never been much of a fan of the form-factor, but I'd love to start running some of my apps on a Jolla device. (Now, if only they'd release a Jolla device with an IR port...)

Don't be so sure about that, it's not due out for at least 6 mth, we're comparing vaporware with devices that are on shelves now.

I was thinking the same but with more information: bus timetables for the nearby stations, family calendar etc. visible at the same time. Should be fairly easy to do with active covers.

suppose they were careful with ETA May 2015, but seen the funding goal has been reached on day 1, there is no excuse not to ship the first 2000 before white Xmas, is there? :)

Re: Jolla at Slush 2014

I really want to want one, I love using my Jolla phone.

As it stands though, I have a Surface Pro which completely satisfies all my needs from a PC, while giving me the portability to be able to type this in bed (on a far bigger screen).

Perfect for Jolla users with a desktop. Tablets are brilliant - believe the hype - but this one's not for me. Guess I'll stick to pledging $10 to get my name on a list.

I know your comment is tongue in cheek, but the funding goal is fairly meaningless. They will have been aiming for 5x the goal and perhaps hoping for 10x. It's just a pre-order campaign.

-> It will prevent you from finding an excuse to buy an Android tablet during the next 6 - 7 months
-> people in public places will admire your display of personality
-> it's so called hackable, may contribute to extended life cycle (fair tablet)
-> it has a well balanced size vs resolution
-> you may profit by selling your "first one" on eBay at double price during the "put your tracking number vs order number in spreadsheet" hype days.
-> there are already over 1 thousand orders so the number of Sailfish devices out there will certainly have doubled by 2nd half 2015 probably resulting in more community efforts :)
-> it has great sound, battery life, USB connector fitting, will not bend... o h wait...

Very happy to support Jolla. Just paid the $204.

Re: Jolla at Slush 2014

Completely uninteresting & not worth the money to me, but because I want to help them out, I'll prolly donate $10USD.
Would've been more excited if they'd announced a major hw partner who's releasing a tablet (or ph), plus they'd successfully secured a new round of funding.
But, they're doing what they can, kudos to them for that I guess...

The OEM for the Jolla tablet might have some something to object about it.
