Alternatively, here's a terminfo file that seems to work more correctly with fingerterm (by not specifying a ech code, otherwise identical to xterm): http://urs.nerd2nerd.org/fingerterm.ti

place that file in /usr/share/terminfo then do:
sudo tic fingerterm.ti
export TERM=fingerterm

and mc works great, no black blocks, no leftover chars when scrolling, hope Jolla includes it as default in update 11.

Sadly with hwkbd it's obvious that this 'fix' only works on first running, upon entering/returning from view/edit screen blackness is back :( back to the drawing board
