Because reboot is something you just do not do.
It is rude behaviour, to be depreciated.

Äijänpäivänjärvi is working fine.

Wow, a new thing:
Jolla notifies me to unplug the charger from wall when I disconnect the usb cable from my Jolla.

That annoyed me to no end in CSSU on the N900. I really wished phones dropped that silly behaviour. The extra burst of energy it takes to light up the screen to display that silly message is about two orders of magnitude bigger than the saving you make by unplugging the charger from the wall socket for the rest of the day.

This update should also bring many bug fixes about Google accounts sync.

Also, there are bugs where a reboot is the only solution.
Or would be if there was the option. As it is now, one has to do a power cycle instead.

Re: sailfishOS Upgrade12 discussions

i think its something deeply associated with a desktop and it seems people are trying to distance themselves from that, which is a shame because all i wanted is desktop functionality in the palm of my hand

Reboot is not needed for something as trivial as that. Just restarting lipstick is enough.

Now there used to be a bug I could not get rid of without full reboot, but that was fixed many releases ago.
(I mean the case when system could not recover fully when wlan sharing was switched off... no help unloading/loading modules or killing connman)

Exactly. I never boot or turn off my desktops, except for kernel updates (and there is even a remedy for that, but being lazy I have not gone that way...)

I'd personally rather Jolla focusing on other things than enabling a nice shiny button to reboot (which none of the competition has anyway). OOTB you can enable dev mode, open a terminal, devel-su, reboot/shutdown -r now (not sure which was the best option OTTOMH).

Also, there are applications that you can download to have this readily handy.

So big bug fixes are too big to do and small ones are too small to pay attention? :)
P.S. Blackberry has reboot option

BB10 has a reboot option indeed.

I don't know re bugs, but I wouldn't call this a bug, more like a feature.

Thanks, didn't know that BB had a reboot, was mainly referring to iOS/Android as competition - should have clarified. Ubuntu, FF OS and whatever else is out there should be competition too.

Have you guys even read update iteration news? They are indeed implementing a shutdown menu for a future release. It would surprise me to not see there a reboot option.

We've been through this before. With no access to the screen (as it is blocked by the bug), that only works if you have an SSH access to the damn phone. This is not the case for most people and even the select few who have the privilige lose it when out in the real world - out of the comfort of you lab, juiceme ;)

Well some do, some don't :D

As it happens, I always have a way to ssh to my device, even when I am on 2G/3G only. A hint for you; I love cronjobs... :D

pichlo 2015-04-08 17:24

Re: sailfishOS Upgrade12 discussions

[OT]Yes, but then:
1. You need another portable device always with you, also on 2/3/4G,
2. Therefore you need at least two SIM cards with data plans,
3. Which costs money ;)[/OT]

Well. There are a few other emergency options.
If you happened to have your device BL unlocked you can boot custom recovery and connect by telnet.

Or, boot to recovery available from Jolla and telnet to do stuff

nieldk, juiceme's argument was that you should never reboot, even to resolve problems when out and about

Would be cool if jolla could be updated without Reboot. Down time is bad.

No need for the 'swipe feedback' patch with leaked update. :) I like how it's implemented.

Mostly is lipstick cause the crash. For me I use home refresher and power key menu in openrepos, then set double click power key button to restart the lipstick, this is useful if your homescreen got touch no response etc

This is good way too, using powermenu entry there is no need for ssh connection. I'd say this should work for @pichlo too :)

Update downloading from Jolla servers, so it cannot be another person pushing updates to your phone.

Just a friendly reminder: the only thing you can achieve by posting this information to public is not publishing release candidates to servers before making them available to opt-in program. In other words: when trying to help everybody to get releases before announcement you only sh*t on other peoples who really need to use it.

vitaminj 2015-04-13 11:36

Re: sailfishOS Upgrade12 discussions

People are using the public-facing but un-advertised release candidates, which have enough blocker-level bugs still in that Jolla are still pushing fixes to and have not yet issued the full package as an official upgrade.

Unless you like tripping over potentially major bugs / edge-cases it's recommended you wait until they are happy with the release and make an announcement.

Also Jolla have said that they hope to make Sailfish 2.0 available to everyone around June.

I'm not shitting on you.
This new release was known already on Friday by an Italian guy..

See the commets/source https://together.jolla.com/question/...1216-to-11424/

vitaminj 2015-04-13 11:57

Re: sailfishOS Upgrade12 discussions

I don't think he's saying that to anyone directly. I think what he means is that the more people disseminate the information on how to get incomplete release candidates the more likely someone who doesn't quite understand what they are doing and what to expect installs one, trips over a bug, and then kicks up a fuss that their phone is broken.

At that point, Jolla will be more likely to lock down this public channel, and developers like coderus who take pride in delivering updated patches / software simultaneously with the release of an opt-in update won't be able to do that any more, and we all lose out.
