Watch Live TV on N800

Greetings:

I am a member of livetv and when I use my desktop with Windows XP I can watch many different channels.

I've tried to use this website with my N800 and it is not compatible.

Can someone suggest a software or an upgrade that would make this Website work.

Here is the Live TV website for you to tryout: http://www.livetv.ws/

Regards Robert

If someone ports this little program, it'll be very easy and convenient:
http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ead.php?t=9494
And then you can play them through mplayer and not in a small browser window that takes up RAM and CPU ;)

Except that mplayer does support wmv files the same mplayer that runs on the N800.

Re: Watch Live TV on N800

I actually am hoping to port MythTV's front-end to my N800. I think it would be ideal for this purpose, esp. if it would be possible to access the hardware acceleration provided by the CPU that Nokia chose to use (it includes acceleration for even upto h.264 at standard TV resolutions capable of 20fps!)

Trick of course is to find a way to use that acceleration. Based on what I've seen, there iis no app presently available that takes advantadge of it :(

Still working on getting myself a build enviroment here though, I am on the move without access to the 'net a lot, and got the N800 primarely for portability, so I am working on getting GCC, make, etc. compiled and working on it (I plan to release debs once I figure out how, still a noob :[ )

EDIT: see http://focus.ti.com/general/docs/wtb...contentId=4671

Hi Everyone,

My name is Donny, and I am the owner of LiveTV.ws. I had some time on my hands and found this forum thread while looking through the LiveTV.ws site referrals.

I am aiming to satisfy as large of an audience as possible. If anyone has any suggestions as to what format would be usable, I would be glad to add it to the LiveTV.ws website, allowing everyone here to be able to enjoy the free channels the site offers.

Thank You,
Donny

as long as its not flash, you golden....hate the skipping I get from those youtube vids.
But really i'm thinking flash is the only possible route to view it via webbrowser.

plain XMLTV file(s), listing the channels. Then one can add the xml link to video center and view videos via mplayer.
that would make videocenter and your http://www.livetv.ws/ liked alot.

http://www.bleb.org/tv/data/listings << Use a compressed xml files, which videocenter does not play nice with.

https://garage.maemo.org/forum/forum...&forum_id=1355
^^Take a look at this link for a better overview of the xmltv option.

Not very knowlegeble regarding TV stream, the Nokia videocenter does offer some clues, http://videocenter.garage.maemo.org/VC_Formats.html. For internet videoes, it supports .MP4, .3PG, .XML, and .avi, .mpg to some extent depends on format, no luck with .M4V. I have Systm, InDigital, Diggnation, MobuzzTV, PodshowTV, Rocketboom streaming video with Videocenter 100% functioning; I have Street Fury, The Totally Rad show, Ripe TV-Podcast, dl then media player or mplayer with very little problems.

Would the few internet TVs listed above gave some clues about supporting features, maybe a beta version, Donny? Looking forward to some beta test...................thanks, Donny:) .

has anyone heard of slingbox? Its a hardware that upstreams your cable tv online and you can view it from an internet connection with their program. They even have the program for cell phones on windows mobile. I wonder if the same program could be made for the N800, that would work great.

lots of people have asked about a Slingplayer software for use on N800..hopefully with more Nokia tablets coming out they will notice the need and desire for Slingbox users with Nokia tablets....people have requested it on Slingbox forums...

I find watching flash youtube in the browser poor - too jerky, too slow. Watching youtube via UKTUBE/MPlayer is PERFECT however! Really good job by the developer. Take a look at it. If you can format your tv streams to be compatible with this program, that would be great. Can't help you with specs - try getting in contact with UKTUBE creator Urho Konttori. All we need is a plain text list of the links to paste into UKTUBE.
Love to watch your site with my N800. Good idea ..:

I've installed VideoCenter but not really used it as it's yet-another distinct UI from Nokia with no clear instructions and no choice for changing where it looked for videos. It also didn't pick up all the videos I already had, so wasn't exactly clear on what it should be doing.

Someone'll need to explain to me better what VideoCenter does with XMLTV files. It's a file format for describing what's on TV channels, does VideoCenter double up as a listings app?

Anyway, you can get uncompressed XMLTV files from my "bulk" download service using a URL like:

http://www.bleb.org/tv/data/listings...XMLTV&file=txt

If VideoCenter still doesn't work with that, raise it on the mailing list:

http://www.bleb.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/tvdevel

More info at: http://www.bleb.org/tv/data/listings?help

Cheers,

Andrew

PS. Top tip for both here and on the garage thread; perhaps emailing me would've been a useful way of getting XMLTV output which worked with VideoCenter? ;-)

OK, I see how XMLTV works in VideoCenter now. Interesting; but still not a fan of Yet Another Nokia UI.

Anyway, the URL I gave above works perfectly and displays UK programme information ("Remote EPG" VideoCenter calls it) within it.

getting stream uri's not availble for both channels.
but it at least shows up...

The UI does suck..

Interesting, I didn't even see the remote epg section. Now, if it allowed to embed an url in the epg and by clicking it tried to stream from it (or schedule a timer if it is in the future), it could be a pretty interface for vdr live tv viewing (with a suitable plugin to spit out vdr's epg in xml and streamdev-server).
Or maybe the poor n800 would be overwhelmed with many thousands channels ;-)

Re: Watch Live TV on N800

So right now as it stands, the xmltv links from aflegg site only shows tv listing.
I don't follow the remote epg thing!!!

aflegg 2007-09-30 18:36

Re: Watch Live TV on N800

VideoCenter supports showing listings using XMLTV. It calls this Remote EPG.

There is no facility in XMLTV, nor in my listings, to provide any form of streaming - either technically or legally.

There is a difference between streaming and dl. UKMP/UKTube is a good idea for a last resort AND a small youtube file, but not practical for a 200 - 300 MB media file of a 15 min TV program, I trired to explain the difference,

[QUOTE Just to make sure i am not confusing anybody. Streaming video means video starts to play almost right away after a few seconds click on the media, similar to waiting for a browser page to load, this includes files as big as 300 Mb, and it does NOT leave a copy on your device after finishing watching. While, dl means one has to wait for the whole file to finish dl to your device and then able to watch, a small file like 10 MB will usually wait around 5 min to finish dl and the button changed from a white 'Download' to a green 'Play'. I usually click 2 to 3 files for dl altogether. Sometimes all 3 dl finish, sometimes 3 files dl sent the 770 to twilight zone, never have problem with 2 files dl. QUOTE]

Oh, I didn't express myself clearly: I wasn't asking for you to embed streaming information in your listing (which I reckon it would be impossible), but to generate my own xmltv listing from my own vdr machine to stream live tv, again, from my own vdr machine.
Now, if there's no way to do that, I don't really see the meaning of remote epg, ok, the listing is cute and the reminder could be useful, but if it's impossible to use it to program real timers and/or to stream its usefulness is limited.

Re: Watch Live TV on N800

Theoretically you could combine an XMLTV data source with a VDR/MythTV/Freevo/video archive to use XMLTV as an index in some new format.

What'd be better, given VDR/MythTV/Freevo/video archives have additional meta-data anyway is expose a listing of those in some HTTP-based XML protocol, possibly RSS. This could well be the "Internet TV" that's mentioned in VideoCenter.

It'd still need a transcoding solution at the backend, though.

With some more information on what these data sources in VideoCenter are, however, it could be very possible to use VideoCenter as the tablet-based UI to an on-demand transcoding solution, using something like 770-encode at the backend.

Very simple (and powerful) indeed... hmm.

streamdev-server (vdr plugin) already does it for live tv: if you use the url, e.g., http://vdr:3000/Extern/5, it will pipe channel 5 to an external remuxer of your choice (usually a script to call mencoder with suitable parameters) and stream it to you.
Note that you can also open in a browser http://vdr:3000/Extern/channels.html and you'll get a clickable list of channels.
What's missing (or maybe it already exists, I don't know) is a plugin to convert vdr epg to xmltv (and in a suitable format for videocenter) and a solution for recordings.

Re: Watch Live TV on N800

I was playing around with XBMC (Xbox Media Center) on my Xbox, and notice lots of python scripts that allowed me to view streams.
Shoutcast TV, internet TV, anything really.
First thing I decided to do was to find out if XBMC was available for linux,
and it was. So I tried to compiling the source for maemo, but failed.
n800 is not powerful enough to run XBMC.

So since I failed at compiling XBMC(in order to run all those python scripts available) I said f@#! it, why not just try to run the scripts, I could do without installing XBMC (save 100MB+ of space).
I downloaded the YouTube script, and took a look at the default.py, and notice the 2 imports that I knew were going to be a problem from the get go.
import xbmc xbmcgui
All the scripts I took a look at all have that import.
XBMC.py and XBMCGUI.py is installed when XBMC is compiled for linux, so considering it wouldn't compile in scratchbox, well you know the rest.
Now searching online I found that someone had a workaround for this.
but the workaround for the import suck, and doesn't work.

discouraged, but still wanting to view streams on my n800.
I decided to ask around on IRC
went on #xbmc and #xbmc-scripting and ask a little about replacing the import xbmc xbmcgui and also rewriting the gui/controls/actions with pygtk similars and was told it is possible.

so at the bottom are the links to everything that is needed.
The scripts are complete, all that is needed is to modify them to use pygtk or python-hildon gui/controls/actions instead of xbmc xbmcgui.

I know diddly squat (<-- slang for nothing ) about scripting.
but am very hopeful that people who do will take a look at this post and do know there way around python.
Hopefully make some magic happen.

XBMC is available for linux, can give it a go with that and see what i'm talking about with the python scripts being use to do lots of things.

knots is defintely more focussed on live TV, although I've not had a chance to test it with my DVB card yet.
