Cant Use Tmobile Cell as modem with DUN

Hey, i am at a loss when trying to connect my n800 to my t-mobile subscribed samsung sgh-e890. I also posted this in the n800 forum in hopes of getting more assistance. Thanks for your help

Hello, I know there are a couple long threads that are targetted at getting dun to work properly with a t-mobile phone. Ive tried just about every setting possibility listed on the thread : http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...?t=4562&page=5

Im using a samsung SGHE890 which is a fairly new touchscreen phone.. i can access t-zones from the phone without a hitch. I have gotten the phone and n800 to pair successfully, or at least tell me that much, but then i just cant get any type of internet service to work. I have two connections on the n800 currently, i have "T-Mobile Internet" and then one ive called "Edge data" I have tried changing the settings from data call to packet data, and nothing nor any combination of settings seems to make it work. Also tried putting in the AT commands, however im a little unsure if im supposed to include the commas and the parenthesis.....plz help me get my n800 surfing!

How about a nokia 9300 communicator...would that work easier? Always liked the 9300

ok, figured i would throw up a copy of my current settings for my n800 that is NOT working. I have tried various combinations of diff settings and nothing has worked yet. If you can think of any way to tweak these settings that might allow it to work, please post your thoughts. Thanks for your assistance in getting this working.

Ok here are the exact specs that I have in for my DUN connection on the N800:

I have called the connection Edge Data
Connection Type: Packet Data
APN: wap.voicestream.com
Dial-up number: *99***1#
Username: 702883****(my 10 digit cell#)
Password: -BLANK-

Then i go to the advanced tab

Proxies Tab:
I have the proxy box checked and the info below entered:
HTTP Proxy: 216.155.165.50
Port Number: 8080
HTTPS Proxy: 216.155.165.50
Port Number 8080

ALL else on the proxy tab is blank

Under the IP Addresses tab:
I have Auto retrieve IP and DNS checked

Under the other tab:
I have the allow plain text login box and the use ppp compression box checked. and this under the Supplementary AT Commands: AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com"

Re: Cant Use Tmobile Cell as modem with DUN

ok, when i try to connect using the "edge data" profile which is posted above, it first beeps on my cell phone and asks me if i wish to DUN connect to the n800, i say yes, and then the bluetooth and edge lights on the samsung phone blink for a few seconds, then the phone appears to stop doing anything...the n800 will sit for maybe 2 mins with the connection symbol at the top blinking a cell phone icon like it is trying to connect the whole time, then after a few mins i get an error on the n800 that says internet connection failed....try again? and i can keep trying but get the same result everytime...

secondly...i just checked out my tmobile plan online, my plan is like 49.99 a month, however it doesent appear that i have any tmobile web plan whatsoever, i do know that itold the tech guy when i signed up for tmobile that i needed whatever net data plan so that i could send and receive MMS messages...do i need to add at least the 5.99 tmobile web option? Thanks for all your help guys, your awesome!

Re: Cant Use Tmobile Cell as modem with DUN

sorry didnt answer the first part...well i went thru the pairing process in the very beginning and it gave me the message that there were paired successfully. I know that using the file manager i can access the phone and memory card in the phone from the n800 no problem...now when i go into the bluetooth settings on my E890 phone, and go to mydevices, i see my n800 in the list because it was paired previously. If i click on the n800 as if to try connecting to it, it says connecting, and then connecting fail, try again. So i click to search for new devices, and i get the list including the n800, i click on the n800 now, and it bleeps on the phone and says enter PIN, so i put 0000, then the n800 asks for passcode to connect, i enter the same 0000. the phone then says getting service list, then asks to exchange data with nokia, if i say yes, then it will give me the same connecting error......Now if i can connect to the cell from the n800 and browse the mmc and the phones memory does that mean that theve been paired successfully? I just cant seem to browse/connect from the phone to the n800

Re: Cant Use Tmobile Cell as modem with DUN

:) I cannot tell you if the issue that you are facing is because of your phone. I can tell you this though, to use a Bluetooth enabled phone as a ' tethered modem ', you need a Data Plan. So essentially to use your phone to make and receive calls you will need a voice Plan and to surf the web you will need the Data plan.

With T-Mobile you will need the $ 29.99 data plan if you are going to surf the web as per your whims and fancies. With the 5.99 T-zones you may not be able to go to websites that are not specific to T-Mobile. I can say this with surety because till recently I had used the 29.99 data plan. I finally cancelled it because I have free Wi-Fi acces at my work and can use the Nokia 770 IT to surf the web as and when I please.

Even now at some places, T-Mobile still has open sockets, so some people are able to surf the web using a bluetooth enabled phone paired to the IT. They do not have any Data plan or athe T-Zone plan. I could also do this for some time long ago, before T-Mobile blocked the sockets.
;)

Re: Cant Use Tmobile Cell as modem with DUN

Ok, thanks very much for the advice. would i need to physically go to the tmobile store to add the service? i know that i looked online and you can add services to your account right there, but the issue is they dont have the samsung e890 as a supported phone, so i have to choose something that is similar, and all the phones i selected for my account were only able to be added to the Tzones option at 5.99, i guess none of the samsung phones supported the full web browsing option. Can they add the full web feature to any account, even if the phone doesent support it? cause the samsung doesent do full web, only wap.

Re: Cant Use Tmobile Cell as modem with DUN

I use a T-MobileUSA Blackberry 8100 for DUN via Bluetooth. Here are my settings:

Connection Type: GPRS
Access Point Name: wap.voicestream.com
Dial-up number: *99#
User name: <blank>
Password: <blank>
Prompt password at every login: <blank>
Proxies: <blank>
Auto-retrieve IP address: checked
Auto-retrieve DNS: checked
Allow plain text login: checked
Use PPP compression: checked
Supplementary AT commands: <blank>

In my case, I had a terrible time getting DUN to work with the Blackberry until I updated its firmware to the latest release from T-Mobile.
