Well, a) I did not yet try to (re-)register, so your post adds information and b) I know now that there seems to be some underlying problem, rather than just a glitch on my Jolla... ;)

So, I kind of expect others to show up with the same problem... :(

Let's just hope that his can be solved.

I got it as well. I thought something had gone wrong when I accidentally let my battery run out completely, which is something that only happens rarely. I suppose it was a coincidence, and instead, WhatsApp has likely updated their client and their protocol.

Coderus, I just donated some more money so you can spend some time programming instead of scraping together rubles with other jobs. I was already contemplating giving another donation, and this made me decide, but I can't keep on giving money endlessly, I'm afraid to say ;).

People, please donate some money to Coderus, even if all you can or want to spare is just a little. If a lot of people give a little... well, you can do primary school maths. (Though, the PayPal fees become disproportionate with small donations. It's still better than nothing, or you could look into Bitcoin).

Is something like Patreon.com maybe an idea? To give people a chance to donate a small sum every month? That way, you can even plan for how much money you're expecting to receive the coming month, and this can also give you a more relaxed feeling, a bit like a paycheck, some financial security. I don't know if this is really the thing for you, it's just something I thought of.

PayPal also allows you to do monthly donations, but I've never investigated that feature any further. Is that something you'd like?

Guess not after all :). I suppose a protocol update takes priority.

OK, I'll setup a monthly payment of 3 euros. It's not a lot, but it is monthly, and it is in addition to what I already sent you, of course. I can't find right now how much PayPal keeps for themselves, but if they would keep 40 cents (I believe it's € 0,35 and a percentage), you'd need 76 more people to meet your monthly goal of € 200. Come on, people! ;)

How much effort do you think it is to get Mitakuuluu working again?

Thanks for donations, and of course protocol update will happen, but it's not visible for users, just makes application to work again :D

I have the same issue. I get the registration screen again. If I click on import from whatsapp, mitakuuluu opens, I see my conversations and after about 5-10 seconds, it jumps back to the registration screen.
If I quickly swype, I can go to the menu but I cannot see the option to send logfiles...

coderus 2015-10-11 15:54

Re: [Pre-Pre-Release] Mitakuuluu3 v0.1.11

well, at this point i dont need any logfiles. situation is known for me.

Re: [Pre-Pre-Release] Mitakuuluu3 v0.1.11

Can someone upload this new version? I am getting tired of this Whatsapp drodi app, and nothing seems to work. Whatsup and Mitakuuluu3 bot not working. With Mitkakuuluu3 I get conected if I import the droid settings, but after 2 seconds disconnected again. And register is not possible because I get the message it is outdated.

So is there a newer version then 0.1.11-10.54.1? If yes, where can I find it?

There is no any new version of Mitakuuluu

Coderus, Is there any news? Do you work on it? When do yo think will it work again?

Your client is so much better than the original client. I'd hate it if I had to change to the regular client.

You can use Whatsup by Cepi, it works well afaik

Hm, but AFAIK, "Whatsup" does not let me choose contacts like your client does (somebody correct me if I'm wrong) - which is the killer feature in my eyes... (...and also the main reason why I do not consider using the original WhatsApp client)

Well, that client was discontinued / taken down by WhatsApp. But more importantly: what emgaron says.

It would be great if you continued Mitakuuluu. It's the reason I could justify getting a WhatsApp account in the first place.

never seen it was discontinued. new version comes every week.

Re: [Pre-Pre-Release] Mitakuuluu3 v0.1.11

Time to dig this up again... :D

I'm just wondering: Are there any other users out there who would be willing to pledge some donation to coderus to maybe help make it worth his while to update Mitakuuluu again? I would, as I'm still missing its killer feature of having a separate address book (no other client on the Jolla can do that) and I refuse to use any of the address-book-slurping clients (WhatsUp or WhatsApp), so I'm currently working around the situation by using Pidgin with the WhatsApp plugin on my PCs - or Telegram (Sailorgram - or Pidgin as well). While that has a number of advantages (having one app with all the messengers is really cool + better keyboard, of course), it also has a few disadvantages, so I'm curious whether I'm the only one who would like to see Mitakuuluu resurrected... (if coderus would like to invest more time into this at all, that is, of course)

@tvicol also a good idea, and yes I'll also donate again

Re: [Pre-Pre-Release] Mitakuuluu3 v0.1.11

I am donating at least a 50EUR as well if I see progress in development.

I believe @coderus has a great sense of UX style and the app itself has a great potential.

It is very sad to see this die. If you are not going to work on this under any circumstances, then a source release would be great.

whatsapp not worth it. prefer using telegram. it's not banning users for 3rd party clients.

And what is the 3rd party client for Sailfish? Any chance it can be a next version of Mitakuuluu? Maybe from your hand? As the Mitakuuluu as 3rd party for WA was easier to use on my Jolla. I like to see a similar client for TG. I use both, WA and TG. I like TG better, if only for the availability of stickers.

Re: [CLOSED] Mitakuuluu3 R.I.P

Some people cannot afford to switch a chat service every two weeks. I am one of the fortunate old farts who has never reached the point of using Whatsit. Absolutely everyone I know uses Skype and nothing else, from the days before it was Microsoft. Telegram? What is that?

(The point being that some people may be stuck with Whatsit for the same reason I am stuck with Skype.)

madmax 2016-04-03 21:41

Re: [CLOSED] Mitakuuluu3 R.I.P

I understand, but every two weeks is a little overstated don't you think?
I still have ICQ. Everyone left me there already. I also have Jabber, no friends there.
Skype I had for a short time, when Mickeysoft migrated it from MickeySoft Network. And it did not play well on the Linux platform.
Now I have both, WA and TG. And I'm in the opportunity to have my most important friends using TG. Both WA and TG eat a lot of memory. I would be thrilled to shut up one of the two. At least during work hours. A native 3rd party client would settle the argument.

That is sad news - I still regard Mitakuuluu as one of the better messenger apps out there and you definitely had some eye for privacy as well by adding an app-specific address book (a killer feature for me). So I would like to thank you for the work you have done in the past!

I'm with you with regard to the usage of Telegram - however, most of my friends unfortunately aren't. Well, they'll have to be patient, as I'm now using WhatsUp via Pidgin on my PCs - so no more "instant" messenger. I tell everyone: "If it's urgent, use SMS or Telegram." ;)

Banning users? Switching to a protocol that uses end-to-end encryption by default which happens to break 3rd party clients is not the same as banning users.

I've long been a critic of WhatsApp, I have avoided using it and this has been quite an inconvenience to me. Practically everyone I know uses it and I've missed out on a lot communication as a result. At the same, over the years I've reluctantly had to use other proprietary communication systems to stay in contact with others. WhatsApp just happened to be the latest proprietary new kid on the block, it had many shortcomings, to which I thought "enough is enough," and I chose not to embrace it.

I actually have congratulate WhatsApp on this change. It's come a long way since inception. End-to-end encryption as default puts it above most other proprietary communications in my book, even above SMS.

Of course, WhatsApp is still not perfect. In terms of client support, it still lags behind Telegram whose API and client are fully open. Telegram however, is not an option for me, it is not secure by default and I don't know anyone that uses it. WhatsApp's centralised server means that your address book is probably shared with Facebook who own it. I guess it's a trade-off about what I am willing accept but it looks like they are heading in the right direction and I think I might be ready start using it. All we now is for the Signal protocol to be RE'd implemented so we can have it on our devices.

EDIT: Even better... I just found out that the Signal protocol is open!

Thanks for your effort. Still, would you consider publishing the source code under reasonable open source license so that others may try their luck?

Best regards,

You have decided wisely!

Why develop a third party client for a closed messenger, which doesn't accept users of a third party app of a system which they are not willing to support.

Maybe the users of such a messenger should think about moving on...
