Yep, vmware. Doesn't even prove if Intel VT-x is BIOS-unlocked. Useless.

Seems like the YouTube video that someone uploaded (not the GPD guys) was cut down. This is the original video:

Yup. You're right. When putting GNURoot Debian in background it uses about the same (if not slightly more) battery as Google Play Services. I tried the same with Linux on Android and it didn't use enough battery to appear in the list depicting battery usage. So it may be better with regards to battery usage.

Here's a little update: With the newly released Nougat version of Android, GNURoot Debian still works, but it is no longer significantly draining the battery when in background. Now my Android phone is *almost* as handy as my N900.

Edit: although it could be running in a VM... notice the bar at the top on 0:05

Finally got a moment to go watch this,
the VMware launches Ubuntu at 00:35
for those of you who peg on nitty-gritty details.

An entire flock of respect just took to the sky and headed west...

They confirmed in the Indiegogo comments that they will release Linux drivers so you can run it natively without VM. Added screenshot as proof.

Edit: The YouTube video that I provided before was NOT uploaded by the GPD team. It was someone else that cut the video from Youku as stated before over here

Almost 3/4 of 2016 has gone...

I have a strong feeling that the ultimate answer to this thread's question is..... N900! (again) :D

Hello all, I just wanted to let you know that I have preordered the GPD WIN from the Dragonbox Shop. :D

I plan on posting a review here. ;)
What would you like me to test when I receive it?

Whether you can load a Linux distribution on it.

EvilDragon BOOTS Ubuntu on the GPD WIN

Working:
-Install
-Touchscreen
-General Usage

Broken:
-WiFi
-Battery detection
-Brightness control
-Crashes on rotation

Here is the link to his boot log

A user called "Sigb" posts a bulleted list, detailing how easy it will/should be to fix these problems.

GPD seems on board in releasing the drivers after release to help this.

I will still test out the installation as the fixes are made.
Along with Ubuntu, I am going to try to put Remix OS on there.

Correction (probably nitpicking):
EvilDragon didn't install Linux on the GPD Win. He installed Arch/Ubuntu on a USB stick attached to the GPD.
There is no Linux installation on his GPD's internal flash.

Afair he did it this way because he didn't want to risk bricking his prototype.

EvilDragon of OpenPandora just said this about his Linux experience on the GPD Win:

Quote:

I didn't have any issues with UEFI on the GPD Win prototype, but it even crashed when I just tried to use xrandr to rotate the display.

And no battery or charging information either, no way to change the brightness of the screen.

I have no idea how much time (if any at all) he invested in solving these issues, but it shows that curretly the GPD Win is far from working ootb with Linux.
