I would go for delusional, with these choices. No other options for programming languages? |

Re: .Net or Java ? or am i just delusional
I wouldn't say it's a deal breaker but If I was starting out learning to program I would choose a language which is similar to others. Like one's mentioned. Java and C#. I was taught Java first. ( well technically Visual basic 3 years prior, but none of my former lecturers deem it worthy of being a programming language.)
But you're right. Come to think of it. Its not that big of a deal. |

But if one really wants to know the computer and the science behind computer science, I recommend two things: * some form of assembly language (68000 is fine, Z80 as well, 8086 too) With this (plus some context) you learn how a computer works. Surprisingly many people don't have a clue about this. It will help you put things in perspective and have an idea about the cost (speed/memory) of things. * lisp and forth (or my favorite, rpl which combines the beauty of both). you learn to program without having to worry about syntax, boilterplate and frameworks. |

After some time to think about it. If we assume the web is eating the world, I would recommend to forget about Java and .Net and learn web development instead.
You can even learn web development with Java thanks to the Play! framework. |
