Nokia 808 - HDMI out - Versitile, Authentic Pureview camera - Vintage Nokia quality - do the droptest - best readable display in harsh sunlight conditions - good music DAC with FMtx - memory expand-ability - call reception - Nokia offline maps - battery life... When you are out there - you'd wish you had not pre-maturely replaced your Nokia 808.

excuse me, but this is portrait one
nice pict btw

Haha, the "landscape" theme means landscape in terms of content not the picture has to be landscape. Nice one. ;)

Yeah, you've beaten me to it. I was about to comment something like, "sometimes a landscape can be a portrait" ;)

OTOH, this picture is definitely not a landscape. It may be in a landscape orientation but it is what artists would probably call a still life.

It may be a bit confusing but the term "portrait" and "landscape" when referring to the picture orientation come originally from the most common orientation of pictures containing that kind of genre. Thus, portraits are usually painter vertical and landscapes horizontal, but it does not have to be the case always.

Wonderful picture and my dream destination. Would be my favourite if only it were a teensy-weensy bit sharper.

Re: Camera phone competition February 2016:"Landscapes"

Yeah the camera on the Z ultra is really sub standard. It's an amazing region round there, Bond Island is a tourist trap, constant stream of boats dropping people off, but is a cool place to visit and see in person

I always forget that February has less days than other months... Sorry people. Here are the entries ready for you to make a vote. I don't believe it, 14 entries? Plus one got disqualified because it didn't contain any landscape.

Re: Camera phone competition February 2016:"Landscapes"

I totally forgot to write that my entry was shot on an N9 using Camera+. Don't know if that will change anyone's mind one way or another about it. And it's black.

Also from a surfeit, a plethora, a plenitude of great photos, I vote for 14, ste-phan. I think I like the combination of the cliff, the light, and the unusual but appropriate choice of "portrait" format. Just makes you want to walk out there and see what the view is like from the end of that outcrop. What a great month for pics!

Re: Camera phone competition February 2016:"Landscapes"

Well done everyone! We have so many great entries this month! It is one of the best on camera phone competition history on TMO!

It's very hard choice and I'm balancing entry 1,8,13, and14. 13's content is the greatest but camera just not so good (hey we have a 2010 N8 entry here, look at how Nokia was ahead). Ste-phan's is also as great as usual. But I finally want to vote for 8.mosen not only a great pic great view but also want to salute 6 years N8 and once the greatest mobile camera.

A difficult choice this month. Every single entry was good. I particularly liked the snowy ones and the portrait landscape one. But only one can be the winner. After much deliberation, I chose... paolo_3_1415926.

I hope it's not too late, due to delayed voting start?

Well, I had to dismiss some good photos just because I'm so fed up with winter I cannot even look at snow, gray sky and grayish grass ;) Vote for 14.ste-phan.

so many shots this month! it was hard to pick, but i'll vote for #6, juiceme. i haven't had a chance to go skiing yet this year! nearly out of time, too. anyway, good shot. :)

Re: Camera phone competition February 2016:"Landscapes"

First, before announcing my vote I'd like to appreciate all the nice entries to this months contest. :D

#1.saponga - N900
The handrail makes really nice lead-in to the picture. rest of the image is a bit cluttered and unrestful, but nice shot of a sunny day anyway.

#2.pichlo - Jolla
All in all to small, I cannot make out details which is shame as landscapes should be about detail. Clouds are nice, adding a bit of windy feeling to the landscape.

#3.jellyroll - Nexus 5
This one is also too small, cannot make out detail. Very symmetrical image which would benefit from more detail.

#4.catbus - N9
A bit dark, moody but hopeful. The bottom catchlight of the sun nuder the branch is a wonderful detail. Very well and evenly captured for a difficult shot where you have deep shadows and sun in the same range.

#5.chenliangchen - BB Priv
Very restful evening capture. There's a lot of detail but a bit blurred. Black mountains against bright sky make a nice backdrop for the city. The towers on both edges seem to be leaning a bit inward.

#6.juiceme - Jolla
What can I say? as uncorrected image it is pretty horrible; Whitebalance is all shot to blue and detail is blurred. (it seems the lens coating on my camera is damaged)

#7.robthebold - N9 using Camera+
Very still, nice reflections. The do-not-skate detail adds humour nicely. Lots of detail and nice even coloured areas, only sky has burned a bit too much.

#8.mosen - N8
Good leading in the picture left-right. Bridge is nice altough the red supports should maybe be more prominent.

#9.briest - N9
Foggy background is nice for the long house. A bit dark in overall, would benefit from some catchlight.

#10.hrbani - N9
Very good idea, the busy birds are intresting. The transparent one in midflight is very good catch. Would benefit hugely from better background.

#11.pasko - N9
Too small image, cannot make out detail. The black-and-white winter forest is well captured, except for the bit too distracting lower right corner.

#12. paolo_3_1415926 - Nexus 5
Very nice light, altough shadows are a bit too deep. The beach line and boar make nice detail.

#13.rm250j - Iphone 6
Again too small image, cannot make out any detail. Very well balanced image that could be very good in larger size.

#14.ste-phan - 808 PW
Way too small image. The lighting is excellent and colours come out striking. mass-balancing is really good and the picture pushes out of the backbround really well. Oh how I only wish this was larger!

And finally my candidate; My vote goes to the last picture, #14
(but it is only because it is so good, this is absolutely last time I want to EVER see so many too small images, huh?)

i didn't look "too" close, just little colors, white balance and "mood"...

Perhaps you could benefit from viewing the entries on a larger screen? ;)

Landscape should be about detail? That is new to me. Landscape should be about, well, a landscape. That by definition means wide vistas at a long distance. I would go as far as saying that landscape and detail are contradictory terms (although I admit that some contradictions can be interesting) ;)

Arrgh, I am absolutely and totally against that notion!

The whole tradition of landscape photography is about resolution and detail, even today the most celebrated landscape photographers use large-format plate-film cameras!

Thank you, I would like to apologize for not being around during voting.

I am thinking about "birds in action". Some parts of the world now have spring time there is a lot going on if you look around.

With the wide angles on the mobile phones it sure should give incentive to use your shoes..

Or you could just sit and have a coffee waiting for something to fly over. And if that did not bring any luck, well, feeding the doves will give you a vallid entry end of the month ;)

Indeed, that's an example of the best mobile camera (808 PV) with pro-skilled shot.

The next bird theme will depend a lot on zooming ability I guess, if too close will likely scare her off. On camera side, Nokia/MS PureView devices will have some advantage on zooming...

Some may say it is not wise to give hints to "competitors", but i am more a fan of many nice pictures so:

I am happy to have had some successful bird action photo series using a cheap gorilla pod fake, 1sec timelapse and some irresistible seed mixture :D

"Birds in action"

hard one... no birds here... only birds that i can see are flying high and upside down, backbags on their backs... because they do not want to see the misery and cold and really want to go anywhere else... ;)
