"Good afternoon, Madam. I am delighted to announce the pre-order for the first Turing Phone with Sailfish. I now require your bank account details."

Shipping on April, and at this point there is no manufacturing line in place, no staff hired... yeah, sure it will ship. :)

Of course, nothing is impossible but it still doesn't seem likely.

According to earlier news, some employees have been already hired (sorry, in Finnish): http://www.taloussanomat.fi/kotimaa/...ja/20162084/12

I'm sceptical about this, but this would be pretty great if true.

One thing I like is (even though I still think it's vaporware) how transparent their intentions are:
"We want to sell a 'secure' phone. When talking privacy, people will buy anything when you sell it as 'coming from <a European country>', so we need to move there, at least on paper."

I am always amused, how people use
  • Younited by F-Secure, because it comes from Finland, so it must be secure (yeah, until it got sold elsewhere)
  • Threema, because it's from Switzerland, so it must be secure
  • Telegram, because it's not from the US, so it must be secure (yeah, it's originally from Russia, but it moved to Germany, so we can now trust it)
  • ...and many other services with this reasoning
Yet they cannot check the server code of either of those, so it's left to their blind trust.

So Turing might at least serve as a lesson to those who think everything is that black&white ;)

Me too, I actually want to believe it to be true. On the other hand, it's not at all unusual that some things are prepared in secrecy and announced publicly only after preparations are already underway. If machinery has already been ordered and they are setting up the production line, if the components have been ordered and if the product itself is ready to be built it may be possible to pull it off. However, I remain skeptical until I see things happening.

it is interesting, Jolla has not mentioned so far Turing or comment on that either.

beware. Chances are high someone is playing on your "national pride trumpet" and my "shut up and take my money piano" like only Louis Armstrong and Duke Allington would have accomplished.
