Jolla releases new statement about financing and licensing

pdf document https://t.co/sZdX0CchR8

In this announcement they mention both Intex and Turing.
They have started on the Jolla Tablet refunds.
And lastly they talk about some special program for all Sailfish developers and community members.

Discount on the Intex or Turing phone, whenever they're released, for people with a Jolla account? Discounts on leftover TOHs? Spare batteries?

They do specifically mention it's for developers and community members, and afterwards 'fans'.

What's some guy who likes installing applications from the Jolla store going to do with a developer device?

Hopefully this means the licensing from Turing and Intex and has brought some cash in.

some yes, but they said it was only enough for another year, but thats without counting the currently ongoing financing round.

"Jolla is also preparing a new special community program, which will be announced in the near future"

My bet is they are referencing this announcement from February called "Community Beta Group".

I'm sure they're bringing in tons of licensing money from all the devices that Intex aren't selling because Jolla can't provide the needed code, and all the Turing phantomware.

Yes, and having read the press release now ... ugh.

Saarnio is still rattling on about "death valleys". The guy is a total *****. Why hasn't he been gotten rid of? Does he seriously think, or any of the remaining management, that this kind of talk is what potential partners or customers want to hear? Aside from the negativity and woe-is-me attitude, the tone and phrasing sound completely ridiculous.

Sounds like absolutely nothing has changed.

Hmm interesting article:

(Google translated from finnish):
Jolla money coming from abroad: "In Russia, active investors"

-All 12 million comes from abroad
-Split to two companies have been cancelled

Re: Jolla releases new statement about financing and licensing

12 million fills a few potholes.

How about a roadmap going forward? At least for software development?

No mention at all for Fairphone2?

I just want a successor to Jolla 1 with SD and removable battery. FP2 is ideal but Intex will also do.

Hopefully new device "soon"

Jolla 1 has a removable battery ;)

Me too, but with at least 3g network support on some US carrier as well. I'll take Aquafish, Fairfish, Turingfish, Puzzlefish, whatever. I'd even forgo the battery and SD card if I had to. I don't "app" in the current sense -- I use an N9 and N900, so clearly my need for Android compatibility is nonexistent, so I'd sacrifice that, too.

With decreasing battery capacity, I guess I better Frankenstein the N9 with the good battery and case doors and the N9 with the good system board instead if I need something soon instead of Soon™, since with my requirements, Soon™ may never come.

They finally produced one this time last year ... but it's now not been updated for 9 months.

BTW good job you said 'removable' and not 'replaceable' ;)

I really think that Jolla, if not most phones, should have a global 4G LTE capability. I don't think I would buy it otherwise.

In fairness you can remove the battery from any phone.

Materials:

1) Claw hammer

2) Phone

edit - so this post isn't entirely silly:

I'm with chenliangchen, in that my main 'dealbreaker' is a non-removable (erm... you know what I mean) battery. In fact I probably would have bought the Yotta Phone 2 instead of the Jolla if it had had one. I don't regret taking a punt on the Jolla now, of course (although sometimes it tries my patience :) )

You have probably seen this, but it has some info on what 4g bands the 'aquafish' has.

If its true, not good for USA?

Not so good, right. Unless you're in an area served by "U.S. Cellural", which I assume is US Cellular, which serves some of the Upper Midwest and a few other limited areas. You might be SOL on GSM elsewhere.

Will anyone even care when (or if) they actually have something to release?

Thanks! Might work via At&t or US Cellular in certain areas including where I live. Will have to check it out further.

If they've cancelled the company split, does that mean they may still be interested in hardware?

I care. They're the only option, if I don't want Android, iOS, and Windows Phone. :(

You can get involved in B2G. But I think it is far from being as mature as SFOS is.

Gives more credebility to my theory that the spilt was a preemtive measure to save the company from TabletGate and Phone-Sales-Disaster.
In worstcase, meaning no adittional financing at all, they surely would have dumped the Tablet claims and Jolla Phone support in "Bad Jolla" and sail on the remaining valuble asset and new deals with "Good Jolla".
That draconian measure seems to be of the table now.
To me this is the best news in a long time.
12 mio should give them at least another year to improve and take theyr chances.

The more pessimistic possibility is that there is no jPhone2 and there won't ever be, and there's no longer a tablet, so there's no hardware to spin off.

Or maybe that's actually optimistic, and they'll put all their limited resources into getting Sailfish to work on 3rd party H/W and licensing it.

Re: Jolla releases new statement about financing and licensing

Best outcome (dreaming here) would be that the community/dev program has a specialized device with the h/w keyboard. Use Intex, Turing etc to push commercial end-user devices and have Jolla sell devices for devs with keyboard etc

I really hope not.

They've got three possible hardware partners already. Leave it to them. Find another few even that aren't so crap/niche.

Spend the 12 million on software development and community/developer engagement for their moribund OS and store.
