12 n800's up for auction.

I noticed this ebay auction and I had to say "holy crap"
those were the exact words that ran through my head.
they've been tested, they look like they are in good shape..
the auction has 4 days left..
no one has bid..
and the starting bid is $40 USD and $74 USD in shipping
making this ..(if no one else bids on the lot) the cheapest per device + shipping for an n800 I have ever seen at a total of $12 and change per device.

Personally I have 3 n800's (a daily, an experimental, and a reserve if anything happens to the 1st two)
I can't possibly use another 12 more ..
but if there are at least 4 guys (or more) here who want to get together and purchase the lot ..who want to collect or utilize these little beasties..
there is no better deal I have ever ever ever seen in all the time I have monitored such auctions.

Re: 12 n800's up for auction.

Indeed. 1½ days left and still zero bids. Shame the delivery is prohibitively high to my country.

Re: 12 n800's up for auction.

yes, shipping rate is very high I think that is how he substitute for the low cost / current bid

Re: 12 n800's up for auction.

Must be some international charge; shipping to my location is only $12.51. (So yeah, I may just place a bid...)

Re: 12 n800's up for auction.

There are three shipping options to the UK, the cheapest one is US $112.38 ;)

Re: 12 n800's up for auction.

@Copernicus
if you really place a bid: would you think of checking cheapest sending possibilty to Europe (Germany/UK/Canada/..)? Time does not matter to ,e.
And if I am allowed to be that brazenly: would you send those units further to us?
I for sure would take one, if sending does not exceed reasonable limit. I am sure endsormeans one (or two/three :D) and pichlo?

Just a question/plea, not demanding at all.
It would require some work, especially research, repackacking, custom declarations (value below 25$ should get through to us without any customs), ...

Absolutely! I have to admit I really know nothing about international shipping, but I'll take a look. :) (I wonder if the higher costs are due to shipping batteries? Perhaps removing the battery would help that...)

We'll see if people start bidding on it tomorrow...

Re: 12 n800's up for auction.

Thanks !

afaik there is no higher shipping due to Li-Ion from America (totally different story from Finland though!). I have no idea where this unreasonable shpping prices come from. But they stopped me a few times ordering from the U.S. The prices for private packages should not exceed 20/25$ (that was around what I paid last last year), hoping for even cheaper possibility...

Re: 12 n800's up for auction.

Yikes! I went to the UPS website and started noodling around with some options there, starting with a 6 inch x 6 inch x 3 inch, 1 pound box to Germany or the UK. So far, the cheapest options I've been getting start at $85. :(

I do not remember (may have to check) but it could have been U.S. postal service or

Yeah, that one is much better. I've just checked their website, and their slowest shipping option does provide the ability to send relatively small, lightweight packages to Germany at around the $25 level.

Re: 12 n800's up for auction.

Sounds more reasonable to me :)
And yes it was USPS.

But have to correct me regarding batteries. What I could fetch from old conversation is that it must be declared (but should not raise costs)...

It seems to me absolutely crazy that such a lovely treasure trove sells for mere peanuts but the shipping costs bang thru the roof

Yeah, at a price of less than $4 per N800, this certainly looks like a steal. Well, I've got a bid in now, we'll have to see how high it goes...

who bought it ?

Copernicus 2016-05-10 21:45

Re: 12 n800's up for auction.

Well, there were obviously several people with their eyes on this trove. I stayed in the bidding up to about the $60 range, but in the last few seconds the winning bid ran up to $142.50. So some folks do see the value in the N800! :)

The eBay system keeps buyers anonymous, so yeah, you'd have to ask the seller or hope that somebody here owns up. :)

Maybe we could bid with community funds and reward a fleet of maemo developers. :D

Is that a friend of yours endsormeans? As if there weren't already enough N800s on Vancouver Island with your stockpile! I think we can all agree that it is now the home of the N800 freaks appreciation society. ;)

endsormeans 2016-05-11 16:14

Re: 12 n800's up for auction.

Hahaha..

If I only knew-ed ..
quite a bit of interest in the that batch..

Me?
Goodness no I don't need another n800 :D
Believe me..
3 is the goldilocks number for nxx0's ...
except maybe the n900...
which a soul may want 5 ..in good working order...
since they are more prone to issues than ever my n8x0's were....

They went WHERE?
to WHOM?

Vancouver Island??!?!?!!
to
Blue Turtle??!??!?!?
what the hell.....
who the hell are you man?!?!?
where did you come from?!?!?
[hm been around since 2010 here..huh...]
well..
here and I thought the entirety of the V.I.T.A.S
[Vancouver Island Thinktank (rather "Thunkers" ) Appreciation Society ]
(the Abbrev sounds cooler :D)
comprises about 5 people I know of...
3 if omit my attending dog and cat..
Suddenly
it seems ..
a turtle has upset the balance of nature..
I'm sure we are all gonna feel the planetary magnetic pole shift damage from this concentration of n800's in a localized region...
hm..
y'know..
they were just saying
the san andreas is about to pop...

a seemingly harmless and benign blue turtle could be the instigator....

endsormeans 2016-05-11 16:19

Re: 12 n800's up for auction.

hm...

I'd suggest keeping at least 3...
and asking on the forum who wants to develop for the n800...
see who would buy one at cost from you..
we need more people working on stuff for our devices..
we have a couple people...
but really we can always use more...
but that is your call blue turtle..
for all I know you have reasons for needing so many...
a giant killer n800 transformer robot..say...
just remem. to tell it ...
"endsormeans...friend.."

:D

Off to build the monster n800 transforming robot...

Well, they've arrived but I'm not where they're at .. I'll be picking them up next week and then I'll know what I've got .. As soon as I do I will let everybody @ Maemo know too .. I didn't have an N800 Transformer in mind endsormeans but you have a way of getting a person thinking ...

Indeed. Back in the day it was known as Vector Sigma. I could never warm up to the reboot.
