What I want to say is: If you use Linux, there's no need to search for a Windows computer to use XperiFirm in. Install the Linux version and, if it runs, use it! It can't hurt your computer or your Xperia X in any way, as its only purpose is to download the firmwares.

Well apologizes for that. I swear I wrote Wine .
Yes Wine (mono) will work (I use that also)
Personally I prefer that, since Linux is just better for everything imaginable when it comes to play with this.

And very exciting it is too! :D:D:D

Seems to work really nicely - based on a few minutes playing I'd be tempted to stick it in my pocket and go out for the day.

As expected : no BT, terminal is slow.

Less expected : Camera app seems flaky - hung a couple of times. Autofocus at macro range is borked. Pulls in to excellent focus, pauses, then goes out of focus before taking the shot.

Totally Unexpected : Recognises a usb memory stick plugged into the X. Doesn't mount as exfat is unrecognised filesystem, but thats just a setup issue :D:D:D

Just to note : No double tap to wake. Camera h/w button inop. Couldn't mount sdcard formatted as vfat or ext4

I can add, GPS is not working. Phone is already pleasant to use. No SIM card until now here, since I have no nanoSIM available

Well, it might have to do with the SFOS version 2.1.1.26 being obsolete for the X?

download
https://github.com/EpicAOSP/make_ext...in/make_ext4fs
https://developer.sonymobile.com/dow...w-6-0-1-loire/

and place in same folder as flash.sh

run flash.sh and follow instructions, you need to also download this and place it in same folder

happy flashings, major disclaimers if it breaks :P

... the make_ext4fs did not work for me on debian stretch 64bit. I took the one from the debian package "android-tools-fsutils".

Sure this makes sense to some extracted from flash.sh
HTML Code:

MAKE_EXT4FS=make_ext4fs

if [ ! -f "$MAKE_EXT4FS" ]; then
echo "Please download the '$MAKE_EXT4FS' binary tool supplied by Jolla into this directory"
  echo "or build one yourself:"
  echo "git clone https://android.googlesource.com/platform/system/extras"
  echo "cd extras/ext4_utils"
  echo "git checkout 67bf7cb2c7487b2a93af8e2d9903842e8fe51f69 -b no-android-deps"
  echo "gcc [^se]*.c sha1.c sparse_crc32.c ext4_utils.c extent.c -o $MAKE_EXT4FS -lz"
  echo "cp $MAKE_EXT4FS $(pwd)"
  echo "cd $(pwd)"
  exit 1

I got Xperia x to my hands today.
Not paid tooo much attention to all specs before, so realised only now that there is NFC. Any info if it will it be ok with Sailfish?

The hardware is fast and nice! Just waiting to get SF to it.

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

My first post with Sony X and SFOS. I am a little bit disappointed coming from a Nexus 5 with SFOS.

Overall speed doesnt seem to be better than the Nexus 5, apps are starting slowly, battery life is good so far, camera as indicated above instable regarding focus, i miss the Jolla store, videos on websites have audio only.

I think many issues might be related to the specific build, lets wait for Jolla.

If you installed SFOS using circulating images I suppose only two 'small' cores are active, hence suboptimal performances ;)

That's one of my gripes with SFOS it feels quite sluggish and does not seem to utilise the hardware that it runs on.

I cannot say I have a lot of experience since my active phone is still my good old friend N900. I have to say that I've been using the XperiaX with last Nougat update as a Tablet at home. Installed first SailfishOS image three days ago and I liked the SO a lot more than Android.
Today I compiled my own image and tried the mod for having all 6 cores working, things looks really promising!

I don't know about the build that was posted here but the build that I use only has 2 cpu-cores enabled by default.

I needed to edit the /init.loire.pwr.rc file and add this under the init-section to enable all of them. (All credit for this go to abranson from the #sailfishos-porters irc).

It does on Nexus 5. It's my estimation that these preliminary community builds for Xperia X are only utilizing one or two cores, and aren't completely optimized.

Personally, I'm going to wait for the official release, even though I've got an F5121 in hand right now. :)

That's quite sad to learn that.
I feel my oneplus x much smoother and faster than my Nexus 5. Downside is I can't get AD work on oneplus x. I suspect it lacks of one or two drivers to make it work.
In fact I expect Xperoa X should have same or better performance than oneplus x as they both have 3G ram but Xperia x has 64bit CPU compared to 32bit from oneplus x.
Will keep an eye on the development

So the Xperia X has 2x ARM Cortex A72 and 4x ARM Cortex A53 cores. Would there need to be a sophisticated kernel code to utilise the 2 low power ones on small tasks & running idle but use 4 cores for intense tasks. Or is the kernel already good enough but just needs telling that these cores exist?

That's already how it works with the patch I posted afaik. At least it disables some cores when in idle-state.

Haven't used Sailfish OS for years, but bought an Xperia X to give it a go and I have been really pleased how well things are already working - even before the 'final' paid release.

However, there is one thing I have noticed about this release - the repos don't seem to have python3 & pyotherside available? Anyway to resolve this? One of the reasons I wanted to switch to Sailfish OS was it seemed like the best platform to do mobile python GUI development.

Python3 is provided by the python3-base package and pyotherside by the pyotherside-qml-plugin-python3-qt5 package both of which I can download without any problems using this image but I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be that way on the other images. Did you do pkcon refresh before trying to install the packages?

Wild guess
It’s not approved by Jolla
Perhaps because there will in a week or so be an “official” purchable version 😂 💯

The first community image released 'in the wild' had some issues to to old configurations. More recent ones have the store available.

Actually, I was able to install official Jolla apps by using pckon utility but didn't try yet Jolla store...

Thanks anyway.

Is the Build community instruction, it is written :

"Double-tap to wake is deactivated. Ask on IRC for more info"

So, anyone has asked for info?

It interferes with the device sleeping and seems to cause considerable battery drain.

The sony device im porting also has a clearpad touchscreen with this feature and so I wanted to test it out.

Dear lazyweb, have they ever explained why they start "selling" it before there's a chance to download it? I mean... why would anybody pay on Sept. 27th if I can as well pay on Oct 11th?

Many will be paying out of tablet refunds, others will be eager out of excitement or just to avoid issues on the 11th.

From Jolla's perspective, aside from getting money in early, they can deal with any issues on the payment side asap.
