Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

I discovered that vol+power solution while suffering another major bug. Has it accoured to anyone that sfosx behaves crazy if too many access points are around?

Behaviour was same as taixzo and lkravovicz desribed, but in a continous row.
Everytime i hard rebooted, it locked up again 2 minutes later.
Happend both at Hannover Tradefair and automatica in munich.

Only solution was to turn of wlan.
My tip is some aggressive captive portals sfos happily connects too or something.

I have had SailfishX hang on me only a few times when opening camera in an android app(whatsapp, instagram). Red led was on. I also discovered hard reset(power+volumeup) myself when trying to recover it from hanged state.

we won't be having an update today, as the translations are still not finished.

seems like all main languages have been translated, so chances of getting the update some time this week should be quite good :D

They often send the update on Friday to test during the week-end right?

Hey, this is tmo. We might not have an app, but we still got stats for that. :D

If you do some spreadsheet Pivot-Table counting foo on coderus magic update list

of 93 Updates:
20 Friday
19 Wednesday
16 Thursday
16 Monday
15 Tuesday
4 Saturday
3 Sunday

Perhaps the statistic would be somewhat different if you only took the 'official' releases into account. At least, I only recall a few updates that had a small revision.

Also some updates were corrected on the same day so those (two) a doubled.

If we go by offical releases only it gets complicated.
The "officially announced" release dates differ by some days or even weeks from the time they were actually accessible to manually update.

I don't have time to sort this out manually, the spreadsheet only took 5 minutes :p
Maybe someone else is bored and kills off the minor releases from this table. The pivot-table in 2nd tab somehow does not auto update and breaks if manually updated...
So one needs to generate a fresh one on the corrected list.

My bet is on Thursday as it's the last day of May and they did say the update should be out in May. But then again Jolla does have a track record of not always delivering on their promises

Hm, would be nice if coderus' magic list would have the hours and minutes too. By instinct the stuff is published at 15:00-17:00 CEST, isn't it?

None of this is the fault of Sailfish or Jolla. Why not blame Facebook instead? Why be a used of Facebook in the first place?

Told them back in the days. It’s all about services. Stuff that help users. If not, just refund and ship sailfish to russia.

A new update imminent or what?

Sailfish has already helped me tremendously. By not having Whatsit (or whatever it is called). I could tell my boss with clear conscience to get stuffed ;)

Sure. Always one or three can come up with a random use case. But cars are no longer cars. It’s services. Still people say they are buying a car for driving when day actually will buy it for the services.

A very good example.

Funny you should say that. So does my (oldish) VW. It's been saying "service now" for nearly two weeks. I've been gleefully ignoring it :D

Not so fast, davey. I have used exactly the same excuse for not joining to a huitsapp group I was pressurized into.

Another good one I have used is, "it's a company phone and I am not allowed to install spyware on it, sorry, it's a company policy"

And that is the most important argument after May, 25th (the new European DSGVO).
That not only disallows but forbids to share other people's data (phonebook entries) without their consent! This is valid for company phones with data of other business people (I guess not for private use).

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

GDPR is not a valid use case In this particular discussion since policies or rules should handle that. Not the services it self.

Side note:
Still unknown how this will work out in reality. Increased awareness of privacy, yes and implemented solutions, yes. But we have too many corner cases in the world yet :D

Just take tmo as an example. Do I have the right to be forgotten. Possibly. Might be easy to remove an account. But what about all post where the user was quoted?

Yes, as a matter of fact we are GDPR compliant. The announcement is still draft and not published but as we reviewed our policies there was nothing that we'd need to change :)

And the law itself does not mandate for us to advertice compliance, just be complient. This is a mistake so many companies are making, spamming their users with messages about GDPR... :(

As for the point you raised; the account removal does not cause removal of quoted or referred postings but that is also OK by GDPR; The article 17 "right of erasure" has restriction clause in article 23 (i) which states that it can be mitigated if it is necessary for "the protection of the data subject or the rights and freedoms of others"

Hence protecting the freedom of speech of other users has priority here.

Its was just an example. But great answer. So many other laws organisations can hide behind so it will be useless in court. But at least privacy get sime visibility.

For small companies with only a handful of employees, I'm sure they're just playing it safe, but for larger companies it's definitely more of a "Hey guys, look at us, we're following the law, how cool is that! By the way, we've already got all of your data and sold it to everyone anyway."

Last year, when intra-EU roaming costs were abolished, I got several messages from my provider saying "As of [date of new legislation], all of our most esteemed customers will enjoy zero roaming costs inside the EU!" and made it look as if it were an exclusive offer for their customers. At least this time around they mentioned that it's actually a new series of laws they have to comply with.

Heh, then it is just a marketing opportunity for them. And a clickbait invite to accept whatever they have written into waivers.

But as it happens, a Law is a Law and must be obeyed, it is pointless to send messages to people and say "hey, see, we are obeying laws here"
