my dream wishes would be for that to happen, together with a decent update of kernel (at least the 4.4 LTS).

The even more far-out wish wouldbe for Jolla to send a team of Ninja assassins to steal the kernel&drivers update that a couple of phones with the exact same chipset as the Jolla 1 have received from Qualcomm, and enable at least a 4.4 Kitkat on the JP-1

But that'snot goingv to happen for obvious financial / resources reason.

They have a model that does this and called XA2 Ultra, unfortunately its too big and will not be supported by sfos x initially.

Do not forget about the family member called XA2 Plus which has separate slots/trays for SIM(s) and for SD too. Though it has a 6 inch display like the XA2 Ultra, it is more compact with a screen resolution ratio of 18:9.

XA2 Ultra is a no go for me but the XA2 Plus a maybe.

Installed SFX from fresh. Some of the android apps don't show app cover. Installs and works fine. What went wrong?

Before reset everyone had covers.

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

Yeah I have same opinion that Xperia xa2 plus would be the best phone from xa2 series. Anyways I probably stay with xperia x if Jolla bring us new kernel for it 4.4 or newer. I'm wondering where hte new installation tool for sailfish x will be available. Jolla blog gives understand that the new sailfish x install tool should be already available, if I remember correctly.. So how long we need to wait still, I'm curious about that question. Nobody knows..

Correct; that was a target at one point of time but targets change all the time.
I would not worry, it will be released when it is ready.

Lts I imagine, and probably 5.9, but listed as a future update and 5.12 is out in a month...

it's still 5.6.

During community meeting they said "Why would you fear? :) We announced the features that will be included in Sailfish 3. We never said that it will be 3.0.0! So What you will see on 3.0.0 is a start of what we are going to make available on Sailfish 3."

Lemmenjoki is known for the gold nuggets it contains.

Comparing the number of nuggets with good parts within SFOS? ;)
And amount of water with bugs/features to solve/come? Or years to flow by?

Not that I want to use something else.

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

TBH I'm quite disappointed that for the past 3 updates nothing substantial has been updated for Xperia X. No official double tap, CPU cores are still not properly utilised, not all sensors work and it still has autofocus issues. But it seems that 3.0 being released in two waves. 3.0.0.5 now and 3.0.1.0 in December which should be adding a massive QT upgrade which they claim up to 50% boost in performance.

alfmar 2018-11-08 20:13

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

Well, I just updated to SailfishX 3.0 and I'm a bit disappointed:

- Linux kernel is the old 3.10.84, dating back to July 2015 (yet Jolla patched it for the latest CVE's);
- systemd 225 (dates back to August 2015), unchanged
- apparently no Wayland update as well
- libQt5Location is still the old 5.2.2, I bet my native GPS app (working since Sailfish 1.1) will be rejected again from Jolla Store. Most Qt5 libraries are 5.6.3 anyway.
- sadly, the "known issues" list for Xperia X is basically unchanged as well.

Recent kernel+systemd versions would allow native apps to run under different (temporary) "users" (isolating apps/privileges), plus a number of other system+networking related goodies. I bet Jolla guys were conservative about any change. SDK 1810 is not ready yet.

one more time Jolla disappointing users for promising support for XA2, which it is not. same with sf 3. Jolla must stop promising what they can't reach on time, instead they must completely fully supporting-upgrading Xperia X will much better for all.

Bit crazy that you can't find the downloads for SailfishX in your shop.jolla.com account, instead you need to stumble across it in the entirely separate jolla.com support section!

i have found SFOS3 d/l links though, and curious whether this one is the full deal or the free preview?#

Sailfish_OS-Jolla-3.0.0.8-f5121-0.2.1.11

But in principle - what's the difference. With that "full deal" you still had to log in to your Jolla account to get paid parts of Jolla store.

The only difference I see is that before Sailfish 3 era you got the download link after buying SailfisX, now the download is free to everyone as a trial...

But, when the images of "full deal" and "trial" are indeed different, then of course I need to be corrected :D

The X images are here, if you've already got a license:
https://shop.jolla.com/downloads/

As for Trial/Full version downloads, I don't think there is a difference between the two. As Martin K said (I can't remember if it's on this thread or not), all the proprietory stuff is in the Jolla Store, and you select which bits you want after you run Sailfish for the first time (and/or on subsequent visits to the Jolla Store).

Clearly they still have work to do on the AlienDalvik (or whatever it is now) portion, as the release notes for 3.0.0.5 indicated, so they are releasing the portion (ie. the base OS) that is ready now as a free trial.

I'm still wondering if the trial-version was a planed move or just a side effects not having Android emulation ready for XA2 at launch.

Anyhow, still a really good idea IMHO. :)

good motto.

I expect so little, I just discarded the update message today. And I am still not unhappy using the SFOS 2.something

Everything is running why switch to unfinished stuff?

Exactly my feelings. I have a test device where SF3 runs on. At the moment there is nothing in for what I'm willing to update. And on top there are some patches I relay on, that are not available at the moment. Both will change, I'm sure. But at the moment I stay with SF2.

A move I can only recommend. 3.0 is highly overrated. On the other hand, while 3.0 did not fix any of the bugs introduced in 2.1 and 2.2, it may be worth pointing out that it was 2.1 and 2.2 that introduced them. So you may as well upgrade. You will not gain much, but neither will you lose much.

My X 'cannot upgrade at this time' after downloading and rebooting, doesn't sound like I'm missing much but I like to keep up to date.

I haven't messed with the software so is it possible there's something wrong with my device? I only ask because it was in my pocket during a bike crash so the frame is cracked on all sides and there are colour marks on the screen, but other than that it seems to work perfectly. I don't know of any diagnostic tests in Sailfish.

nah, SFOS 3.0 is GREAT and yall are haters

new pull down menu is almost 85% as good as harmattan UI!
ambience/topmenu is officially no longer the worst designed UI component in SFOS!

PLUS, the ambiences in the topmenu are so small now, that the feature FINALLY letting you hide them forever isnt even the killer feature of 3.0!

wolke 2018-11-10 21:31

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices

on a side rant, seriously, does anyone out there give two $hits about ambiences?

personally, i just wanna silence my phone and not have apps be able to make sounds.
(how could anyone ever want MUSIC to play while phone is silenced? just turn on airplane mode if you dont want to be disturbed..)

Ambiences are for "powerpoint people" , I newer use any special backround etc. in windows, linux, sailfish. Stadard will do. Just want to MUTE handy, and also SEE THAT.
I know there are " skin addicts" who like to play, but does a skin/ ambience make better phone call, better browsing experience.
HELL NO!!!!!

Before making a TJC "bug" report, i need to ask y'all first. Has anyone of you got fingerprint reader support on any XA2 variant?
I am asking because i see no mention of missing FP-Reader support in the release notes, yet it is not working on my h4113. Thanks.
