Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
I use and like the ambiences a lot. Why?
Maybe because of me forgetfulness. OK I describe the way I use it: I have three ambiences in use. All are the same picture but dyed in a different signal colour: Red: Ringtone 100 %, vibrations on Green: Ringtone 20%, vibrations on Blue: Ringtone off, vibrations off I use the volume control settings patch to uncouple the volume hardware buttons from the ringtone setting. So they only control media volume and I can't adjust the ringtone by accident. So every time I look at my phone I immediately know how my phone works at the moment. If I see blue colour and don't want to miss a call, I have forgotten to set it in the right mode again after the last meeting. And yes you can tell me you can see that on the ringtone Icon. But no, this icon is so tiny, I would oversee it all the time. So if you ask me, I don't want to miss ambiences and I'm not a powerpoint man. So claiming that noone is using ambiences, just because YOU don't use them is wrong. I definitely don't want to miss them and would be grateful, if Jolla would work on them further. |
Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
Re ambiences: same here, as @Fellfrosch. I have separate ambiences for Day (all sounds enabled), Night (no notifications, calls go through), Meeting (no sounds). Having different color schemes makes it easy to check what's the current setting. Having a proper device with the hardware switch for ambiences (tri-state switch on OnePlus X) and Kimmoli's code to enable it, helps a lot. No need to have ambiences on the top menu then...

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
Anyone else have horrendous battery life on the XA2? I mean, I still return home with 20% left but I'm pretty that's because of the large battery. It never seems to go onto deep sleep, and overnight I could lose up to 50% charge. I checked the processes running from Crest but nothing seems to be consuming CPU or RAM

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
"no sounds" is FALSE though, because you cant set pulse volume with ambiences. also, you can use volume buttons to make silent-ambience ring, and sailfish3-ambience silent. so i cant trust those visual cues, and i wish i could.
i dont mind ambiences existing, i just want an obvious, reliable, easily-set silent mode. |

Has anyone else had problems with usb tethering after update to 3.0? Other usb modes seems to work like before update, but internet sharing -option gives only "currently not connected" message in usb modes

https://together.jolla.com/question/...rking-anymore/ To add some context, USB tethering has been unofficially available since log ago, one would install a package from the official repositories and a "USB tethering" icon would show up when you connect USB cable to you Sailfish OS device. This apparently no longer works even though some users report solutions based on custom script still work. Also apparently a reasonable amount of people has been using this kinda hidden feature. My recommended course of action for interested parties is to vote for the TJC issue & add it as a topic to the next community meeting. This would ideally not only result in the feature being fixed but also finally enabled by default. |

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
@rm250j This method is usuallly okay. However, in my experience, if you use it for an OS *downgrade*, it may brick the phone (in my case, downgrading from 3.0.0.8 to 2.2.0.29 on a Jolla phone).

Great so the XZ2 and XZ3 are part of their open devices program? I would absolutely *love* an XZ3 with Sailfish and would pay for it accordingly. |

Yes, and people would also love XZ2 Compact

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
is there any dbus setting to remove that "get your charger off the wall socket" warning after the phone is charged? hate it when I want to check if it's 100% charged

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
My Xperia X just completely died.
Internet wasn't working some reason so I went to set flight mode on and off from the new top menu to try reset it. Flight mode was taking very long to activate so I went to reboot the phone with powermenu. As I press reboot and lay the phone on table I forget it and continued my working on PC. When I picked up my Xperia it was off. Now can't get any response. Can't get any leds or vibrations by holding any buttons or by using USB cable. I removed sim and tried fastboot mode or recovery mode but still no leds or vibrations. Is there anything I can try? Update: Picked up my Xperia X once again and pressed buttons to try get any response and it just woke up and booted. |
Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
I think I read something about pressing Power and Vol + and - down for 10 seconds

I need it way to often sadly. Sometimes instead of the lock screen i only get backlighted black screen with no notification led error code. Most propably i misconfigured my installation due to testing all and every hack i read here. If the XA2 port does not supercede the Xperia X ux, i am propably trying a reflash and keep everyting stockish to see if the error goes away. |

Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
My XA2 install fails in the last step, what am I doing wrong? The image SW_binaries_for_Xperia_Android_8.1.6.4_r1_v16_nile .img is in the same folder. I'm using macOS and I'm not any good with Terminal.

You can check the output of ls -l (list directory) from within the directory you named above and started bash .flash.sh from. If you are unsure if all is correct post a screenshot of the output here. But you can see the folders content in any filemanager so terminal is not even necessary. This really comes down to the simple question if the sony image is in place and named correctly. There is a space character before .img in the filename you posted above. If that is present in the filename on your computer it would be wrong. But i guess the space is just a wrong representation here on TMO since it is missing when i qoute your post. If all is correct i would suggest to open a question at together.jolla.com since actual Jolla engineers are reading and answering. I have heard of Android Platform version related errors on macos but those where more obvious and fixed in 2.0.1.4 |

I had the same problems. And the same solution.
Something doesnt work under MacOS |
Re: Sailfish OS (officially) on Sony Xperia devices
Could you @chilango and @ridmaur specify when that took place? As i wrote earlier, there was a problem with the script when sfosx was released. The fastboot version on macOS does not accept the "-l" feature anymore and that had to be worked around in the script iirc.
I was involved in the finding and had and heard of many successful flashes via macOS since then. |
